I've been wondering the same, whether we post here or not. To make an assumption on your second question; I assume sidekicks would more or less be another character(?), so- I, once more, assume that would clash with the DM's wishes for this RP.

No, I mean playing more than one character. A 'character limit' is the amount of characters the player is allowed to play in the RP.

Do we have a character limit? I'm split between two ideas and being able to play both would eliminate the issue of choice.

You're correct, magic is not a real-world thing and their abilities come purely from the ability to alter dreams. The idea comes from lucid dreaming, the awareness that you're in a dream and thus able to control certain aspects, in this case quote-unquote magic.
