Just going to say that a lot of Pokemon can take thunderbolts, a gun would hurt them not anhilate them. Anyways, if we are just not going to use them, why do we have guns? Wouldn’t it be simpler to say guns have just not been invented in this universe?

There were guns in one episode of the anime, it was banned because of them. Besides, the evil teams could easily have just set their pokemon on the protagonists. Oh, and this world has guns, @welian mentioned it interest check. It was something of a throwaway line though. so I could be mistaken.
