My Neighbor Totoro is a studio Ghibli animated movie, in the form of Japanese animation, I highly recommend it, as anything by Studio Ghibli in general I've seen many of said films, including My Neighbor Totoro, the general opinion is quite high of the film by critics and viewers alike I recommend you give it a try.

No, haven't heard of them, I've just seen a few short clips from it, like a bunch of little black puffballs, and a separate one with some weird giant owl-monster thing.

I've watched it and I honestly didn't care for it. I think it was made to be more whimsical and metaphorical than actually having a cohesive story. The main characters in them are always super energetic and bouncing around and talking fast so I kinda got annoyed by that haha. I think it's a really beautiful movie nonetheless with the animation.
