*eyes go wide with excitement at the mention of Latin*
Alteras

Are ye a fellow latin student?
JokerValentine
JokerValentine
Yeah. I was almost a classical studies major, but I'm planning to study Mediterranean archaeology. I took Latin last semester in college.
Alteras
Alteras
Oooo... I'm assuming you used Wheelock?
JokerValentine
JokerValentine
I did, though just to catch up to the AP Latin curriculum. For my college classes, I just sorta used the class website (as we have publications of Latin texts). I got to read some Tacitus and Agricola. I take it you're in an earlier stage of latin?
Alteras
Alteras
Ahh, I took latin in high school but never did AP. The Univ I go to doesn't accept out of state 3 years, so I have to take it again. We just hit participles and I forgot how troublesome they were to translate.

Ah yes, the dreaded participles. Personally, I hated indirect statements more, but participles did give me tons of problems.
Alteras
Alteras
Well, so far, indirect objects are just Datives or the rare accusative for us.
JokerValentine
JokerValentine
No no, indirect statements. They're fun, trust me.
Alteras
Alteras
Wait... is it the extension of the passive?
JokerValentine
JokerValentine
So basically, it's a type of sentence structure. Instead of saying something like: Alteras said, "I hate the dog." an indirect statement is: Alteras said that she hates the dog. Basically, the verb is infinitive, and it's sometimes hard to tell what's going on. But I think it'll come in a few chapters from participles.
Alteras
Alteras
Oh god... those... I remember that...

Don't worry though. They're only very common in a lot of Latin prose. *evil laughter*
