Maybe I'm waiting for a rp to start before I reply. Or maybe I just wanna lurk. Why you gotta make it difficult Rpn?

If you don't visit a thread, the system thinks you don't want any more alerts. That's why alerts say "There may be more posts after this" or some such.

I still read the stuff there, but I can't if I don't know it's there cos there's no notification for it.

Also why would the system make that assumption? If I don't want notifications from a thread, I'll damn well tell it that. I clicked the "Watch Thread" button for a reason.

It's the way it's coded. Nothing I can do about that.

I'm sure it wasn't like this when we had the previous version of xF. Why can't you tell your coders to fix this problem, take a look at the old code for inspiration or at least send a bloody notification telling us that the updates for certain threads are being turned off. It's very frustrating to be left behind in a roleplay simply because you were not aware it had started due to a lack of notifications.

Yeah pisses me off a little too, but oh well...

Idea Idea Well no, not 'oh well'. I think it's fair that a little change happens in this department. I don't see why the Rpn staff can't at least attempt some form of a solution to this issue.

Well, because there are rules. I'm no expert, so take my words with a grain of salt, but sites such as RPN are not entirely independent, they usually rely on a third party , the host. The problem is that these hosts set what kind of sites/forums they support under specific schemes regarding the website, meaning certain parts of formatting are just inherent to any site supported by said host.

You're telling me that this host is going to restrict the way users of the website receive notifications? They want enforce an inconvenient update system upon this site? For what reason?
Idea

They don't want to do any of that, most likely. The thing is that the host features are universal. These traits apply in ALL sites hosted equally. In other words, this was probably a system that benefited the earlier sites hosted, and just happens to have this disadvantage on this particular one

I've been on this website about 5 years and this has always been an issue. It has nothing to do with the site updates, moderation or administration.
AThiefOfSpades

It has to do with the people hosting the website, and it's the same p much everywhere. If you want to receive notifications for something, then when you do receive one, you have to click it. Then and only then will it send you more. If it still isn't working and the thing has updated, then it's a technical issues and you should bring it up to the staff

If you view an alert, but don't go to that page, it stops sending alerts for it. It did the same when we were on xF before (same version, by the way). That's just how the forum software is coded. We're hoping it will improve in xF 2.0. (You can always go to Watched Threads and it will show any that are unread, whether it sent an alert for it or not.)

Perhaps it's a technical error then, because I have threads I am definitely clicking notifications for and therefore viewing, yet those notifications stop because I haven't but actually said anything.
