It was a rather peaceful day. Spring was beginning to show it’s beautiful colors and the weather felt perfect. Not too hot, not too cold. Perfect day to do nothing and not be bothered~ Yarne was always a fan of tormenting people and stealings their valuables, whether he was supposed to or not, but every once in a while he’d take a day off and visit places he enjoyed or partake in a few of his hobbies. Today was one of those days.

The Golden Leaf Café was a shop of exquisite taste. The building had a beautiful black, gold, and red color scheme with elegant trim on the walls and cloth chairs that were likely priced out of this world.

IMG_0210.jpeg

Yarne was currently sitting outside the business at one of their various table setups they had for guests to enjoy the fresh air. He sat there with his legs crossed while one hand held his phone and the other a lit cigarette. On the table was a small cup of coffee made in his favorite style. The scent from it mixed with his cigarette smoke, creating a rich burnt smell that some would likely despise but to him….it was horribly lovely~

The man hummed softly as he scrolled through the news while taking a long drag of his cigarette. “Mmm….seems his majesty, the Frost King, is still doing fine for himself….how unfortunate…” he grumbled softly as he blew out smoke.

Appearance was a knife and Dyne learnt more beyond its utility home. Appearance shaped perception and bias, whether denied or otherwise. As someone appearance privileged, she found little reason to complain and bemoan the unfairness. It was but one of the many injustice the world had at offer.

Her platform shoes with rounded edge and protected toes tapped upon the pavement in rhythmical fashion. Golden accessories contrasted her white outfit. She was neat, clean, and in control, the coordinated color schemes whispered to the world's eyes. Her lips blossomed wide as her gaze narrowed on the target. And boldly so, she announced her steps and approach.

"Hello, Dragomir Darling." Saccharine, sickeningly so, she spoke from the seat she pulled across the Tiger. Dyne leaned on a hand with a fake troubled note. "It's quite difficult to catch you in the office. Really, it's almost like you don't want anyone paying their debt at all."

That smile, knowing, naturally reached her eyes. It could be anything but not deliberate. She had not had the pleasure of dealing with loansharks, but Jonathan's story and her own inquiry painted enough life into what she should expect.

Appearance was a knife and Dyne liked what she saw. He always wore the same outfit, Jonathan and other sources told. Thus, his appearance became more than appearance and became a symbol. It brought omen to those under and linked intimidation and violence to his mere presence. She could appreciate the art, though she doubted the intention was deliberate or as deeply thought of.

Yarne heard her attention seeking footsteps but thought nothing of it until his name was called. Slowly he glanced up from his phone at this woman who has boldly and rather rudely intruded upon his moment of peace. Setting his cigarette down he reached up and lightly pulled his sunglasses down so that his glowing eyes could glare straight through her.

The irises in this man’s eyes were a sickly greenish yellow color that glowed softly like embers in a dark cave. Yarne had a look of annoyance in his eyes as he glared at her the same way a library would when a child made too much noise. “…….mm. I find that it saves time for me to hunt them down instead of….” He paused for a moment to think of an appropriate phrase to use only for a sly smile to slowly creep across his lips. “Well….let’s say a patient spider will starve before someone like me does~” Yarne took this time to eye the woman up and down, taking in her rather exotic appearance. She definitely seemed to have his sense of style given she dressed to catch people’s attention. Definitely a lot better than most gangsters he’s run into, who all prefer looking like the common folk and pretend they have no status in the world. As if any of them were remotely on the same level as those….maggots.

Yarne took a slow drag of his cigarette and let the noxious smoke flow out of his mouth like fog across a lake. “You seem to know me my dear….and yet I do not recall that we’ve had the…..opportunity to meet.” He then lazily rolled his eyes and put his phone away into his jacket pocket, assuming she was going to need his full attention. “And before you waste your ‘precious’ breathe, know that the Tiger’s do not entertain the idea of ‘pity’ and no debt will be pardoned.” He spoke as if he had this sentence memorized. It was likely he had to say it to many people in his career.

Dyne returned a smile that was not quite there to the loan shark's rhetorical inquiry. Information asymmetry currently worked in her favor. She saw no reason to change it. Negotiation started far before it graced the soft lips of formal exchanges. Their relationship designated her as the weaker party by default. Any advantage was a welcome one.

"It appears that one of my new boys had a little... past to settle. I quite like him, really, Jonathan Howls."

Six stacks of cash, $10,000 each, landed on the coffee table. It was an all too common Amestria's story; medical debt. The Hound was fortunate to meet Dyne before he plunged too deep to be saved and fortunate that she took a liking of him. It was not a lot of money for her, but it was not a little either.

"Be a dear and take him off your nest, would you darling?"
Dyne shut her purse with a forensic's finality. "Tigers know no pity, but they do know the meaning 'paid in full', no?"

The lake of fog parted at sudden, clearing a path without distraction to the Countess' smile and her dark eyes, where grace no longer lingered.

Appearance was a knife, a tool in an arsenal. It had its uses, but it could not solve everything. Power, unlike appearance, was almost always the correct answer where else's role was uncertain. In the face of the heartless, she certainly thought it was the correct one.

Yarne watched carefully as Dyne casually pulled out hefty stacks of cash and set them on the table. It was definitely no small amount of money, especially considering it drew the attention of passersby who likely had never even seen that amount of money in their lifetime. It would’ve been oh so easy for Yarne to simply pocket the cash, shoo the women off, and call it a day…..but then his job would be rather boring if that’s all he had to do.

“Not enough.” Yarne said in a rather blunt manner. He didn’t even bother counting the money in from of him and continued keeping eye contact with this rather bold stranger. “You see the Albino Tigers are not big fans of tardiness when it comes to paying off loans.” He then grinned in a rather sinister and hungry way as his eyes glared deep into Dyne’s soul. “I don’t care just how found you are of this….creature you own. He must be made an example of.”

Yarne then took another huff of his cigarette, which at this point was practically finished. He eyed it carefully while blowing out the tar smelling smoke towards Dyne. “I think….a limb or two should suffice as ‘interest payment.’ Yes~?” He then let out a dark laugh and opened his mouth and stuck his tongue out. Dyne would immediately notice something verrrry wrong.

The man’s tongue was perfectly transparent and was the same sickly yellow color that his eyes were. Small bubbles popped on its surface and thin trails of what maybe was saliva dripped down onto the ground. She would then notice a new smell surrounding them….it was sour, noxious, and vile. Like the smell of arsenic or cyanide melting through flesh. Yarne then without hesitation pressed his cigarette butt into his tongue putting it out causing a soft hiss to be heard. However….it didn’t stop there. The butt seemed to shrink in size as Yarne pressed it further down. His tongue boiled and bubbled as thick smoke left it and within moments all evidence of the cigarette had vanished completely. It had completely melted away.

Yarne kept full eye contact with Dyne during this disgusting display of power and once it was all done, he calmly licked his lips and picked up his coffee to drink. “Your choice love. But I don’t believe this is a game you wish to play~”

Celestine sighed. Somehow she always got the unruly ones, the ones that didn't listen, the ones that went ahead and did whatever they wanted. She couldn't even find it in herself to be upset; it was endearing, in a way.

Asti reminded Celeste so much of Yuto and her heart swelled, her initial exasperation immediately replaced by what some might call affection. A small smile flitted across her lips as she finally approached the construction site, eyes scanning for the tiny terror she had been paired with. She followed the sound of yelling, spotting her companion almost immediately. They looked to be having a lot of fun.

With a hum, Celestine allowed Asti to continue with what they were doing and silently approached to watch. She would only step in if absolutely necessary, but they seemed to have things under control. It was impressive if she were being honest.

It wasn't until they began looking around that Celeste chose to step out and make herself known, assuming they were looking for her, "I must admit, that was a wonderful display. You handled yourself very well." Her expression remained relatively neutral, though her eyes sparkled as she gazed at them- She was proud of them.

"And it looked like you had fun." Celestine added, a small smile beginning to form. She took a couple of steps closer to Asti and took a moment to check them over, "It does not appear you have any serious injuries, so that is a relief."

Reaching down, the taller woman ruffled their companion's hair gently, "Most impressive, Asti."

It was then that Celestine finally turned her attention to the group that still needed to be dealt with, "Did you have anything in mind for dealing with them? Or are we just going to be 'winging it'?"

Jericho's tail lashed back and forth at the mention of Callista, tilting his head as he considered his response. He was going to comment on how he hadn't seen her since they got here, but thankfully it seemed Bandy was only concerned about the pictures they had taken.

Jericho's expression almost seemed to brighten at this and he nodded vigorously, “Yeah, I got the pictures. Lots of 'em." He pulled the phone from his pocket and unlocked it, handing it to Bandy while also moving closer so he could get a look at the photos.

“I wanna take a look, too. I forgot ta look earlier." Rico added softly. In truth, he had been so worried about his best friend that it had completely slipped his mind. Jericho had been too busy pacing around and waiting for Bandy to wake up to think about much else.

Frost grew and crystallized the deeper the threat went. Really, this was why she awfully hated these slimy Tigers. Snakes fit them better than the clear violence the North practiced. They reminded her too much of home.

"A little tardiness does not matter for a Tiger if it's compensated enough, no? But I'm afraid your asking price is too high, darling."

Smoke continued to part way from Dyne and her pristine white clothes. The awful stench grew with Dyne's under zero smile. At some point, the stench reversed its natural ebb and flowed back toward Yarne. Dyne met his gaze and challenge from the very start. A stance with a stance, a threat with a backhand.

But really, she was getting bored playing with a weaker hand. Dyne giggled. "Really, it's bad manner to look down on women, darling."

Suddenly, the table exploded toward Yarne. A spherical force appeared underneath and propelled Dyne and the table away at great force. The stacks of money and Yarne's coffee flew instead vertically, now suspended in a faint blue sphere midair. The same glow had been the one that diverted the smoke earlier, though it had been too thin to be noticeable.

"It's awfully poor of you to make the decision for me." Dyne made a pulling gesture and the money and coffee hovered her way. Courtesy was but a thin veneer with negotiation now pushed under the table. Even if Yarne would accept the extra she threw, her public display required that he put a strong stance. Or perhaps, he merely disliked not holding the initiative.

Either way, Dyne met Yarne's gaze with a smile. She prepared for this, after all.

High above the sky, ignoring the passerbys that hurried to empty the street as the fight started, a certain Jonathan Howls looked down with a binocular and anxiety.

Since When Do They Teach Us To Look Up?
There. Movement.

Golden eyes locked on Celestine as she stepped out of the shadows. Her step was silent. Like a ghost. One of those vengeful ones. The ones ready to bring an icy death to anyone who crossed their path. A calamity on the loose. A shark lurking in the shallows.

Like this, Celestine reminded Asti so much of their guardians.

Tall and distant silhouettes. Untouchable beings. They walked past their door, giving Asti only a quick glance through the barred window before moving on to the next patient. As if their existence was merely just another name to tick off.

But then Celestine spoke, shattering this exact mental image in Asti's mind. Contradiction upon contradiction. Her praise burned like sweet perfume in sensitive nostrils, and her eyes sparkled like drops on fresh grass. Where was the anger, the mockery, the haughtiness? A hint of wounded pride or the slightest appearance of contempt? There couldn't simply be nothing. Who was she trying to fool?

Maybe she just needed more incentive. That was fine. Asti could easily provide that.

"Are we sure your eyes are working?" Asti stared at her. Brows raised and lips drawn upwards in mockery. "Literally nothing has happened that's worth being impressed by," they huffed, shaking their head in disappointment as they put the glove back on. "Those guys aren't even strong enough to be any fun."

Asti saw Celestine closing the distance. Their fingers tingled with excitement. This was more familiar. Soon she'd lash out. Just a little more. "Try to keep up, Veteran. You're awfully slow for one, aren't you?"

But once again, her actions confused Asti. Was she concerned about them? A complete stranger? How ridiculous...

Asti did not like the implications behind her worries, either. Wounds? From these idiots? Wait… was she calling them weak? They bristled angrily.

"Injuries? How incompetent do you think I—" A sharp inhale as they interrupted themself. Quiet enough not to be heard by anyone but the one who caused it.

Celestine touched them as Asti wanted, but it was not pleasant. It felt... strange. An odd rhythmic pressure on their head, similar to the way Asti would swipe a phone screen to see how it reacted.

Instinctively, they stepped back and raised their arms to cover the top of their heads. Even if her hand only lingered for a moment. Asti wanted to say something, anything, honestly, but the words were stuck in their throats. So they just frowned in displeasure and turned back to their real enemies.

Four normal idiots and one special one. Easy enough.

Instead of responding to her question—or rather this was their answer—they rushed forward, freeing the thugs from their frozen state. Lively, panicked shouts rang from their mouths as they scrambled to defend themselves. 'Winging it' did sound perfect after all.

When Asti gave the closest one a free nose job and used him as a shield against two bullet shots, they regained their voices... which they promptly used to challenge Celestine. "One point each. Two for the HP girl. Loser buys everything the other one wants." Asti knocked the man to the ground, making it two for their court.

"Get ready to order the fanciest takeaway from the objectively best noodle restaurant on the main street!"

The remaining thugs responded to the threat by collectively aiming their weapons at Celestine. Doubt, however, was written all over their faces. One of them kept glancing at his fallen comrades on the ground. "What are you waiting for, cowards? For them to run us down?" shouted the aforementioned shadow woman, seeing her friends hesitate.

Apparently a loud enough wake-up call, for shots were fired shortly afterwards.

Yarne flew back from the force of the table and through the cafe’s windows crashing through the various furniture and decorations with a loud crash. “……haha that was rather nice~”

From Dyne’s perspective, she would see a rather large hole in the front of the Café that Yarne’s body flew through. But soon a new…sound would could be heard. It was thick, almost heavy sounding, with slopping and slushing noises as if someone was treading through a dense, muddy swamp. “Such misplaced zeal….” A deep, booming voice echoed from inside the shop as these thin yellow tendrils crept out of the shop, squirming and writhing like worms in the rain. “If this is the game you wish to play whelping….then come.” Suddenly a massive…what could only be described as a hand reached out of the hole and dug itself into the ground. As it did so a loud hissing sound left the concrete as it began to eat away at the stone.

After the hand came out soon the body it was attached to emerged. It was a large slime creature, about the height of a tree, where it’s bottom half was just a large puddle with no real shape as it constantly churned. The top half was more of a humanoid shape but lacked a face. It was just a smooth expressionless texture on the head and yet the voice echoed from this disgusting creature.

It was deep and always had an echo as if the monster was at the bottom of a deep hole. “Make your peace worm….for there shall be no trace of your flesh when I am finished.”

Yarne was proud of his true form. There were days when he would stay in his slime form more than his human one. It felt more natural….more true to his soul. Showing it off in a public place like this meant very little. As did this parasite before him. Immediately his large arms stretched out, as if they were made of rubber, heading straight for Dyne aiming to grab her right out of the sky.

SWIMMING AMONGST WATER LILIES

Firm ground gives way to a rotting undergrowth that squelches with every step. Tall and lanky trees, dripping with black trunks, lean dramatically over the murky waters shrouded in algae. On a moonless night like tonight, their silhouettes can almost be mistaken for strange humanoid monsters lurking imposingly in the shadows. The air, stagnant and putrid, carries a heavy silence that is interrupted only by the occasional screech of an animal hunting or being hunted.

It is no surprise that the inhabitants of the North keep their distance from Fog Grove. There is nothing this far into the swamps except for danger and decay. Well, danger, decay, and five poor serpent souls who have been relegated to patrol duty for the night. They say there's no rest for the wicked, especially after a psychotic cult just tried to kidnap a bunch of HPs and kill them off in the hope of awakening some ancient god in the name of equality. I mean, that shit was CRAZY!

Can you imagine what might have happened if you'd been there and they had succeeded? I'll tell you what would have happened.

You'd be dead.

Maybe someone might eventually find your body under all that rubble or maybe they won't. Maybe there wouldn't even be a body to find. You wouldn't know. Because you'd be dead.

What a thought, huh? So really, if you think about it, patrolling the swamps in the middle of the night looking for signs of any remaining chimeras is arguably a much better situation to be in than whatever insanity had gone down in central the night before. But I digress. All I'm saying is maybe appreciate the little things in life, yeah? Like being alive. Being alive is great! Even if it smells absolutely horrible here. Gods almighty, what crawled out of the ground and died?

Speaking of dead things, what's that amongst the lily pads?

There, just on the edge of the water, where the algae bloom has been broken up by a small cluster of water lilies, a pale hand caked in mud reaches up from the darkness.

Khydnah's amber eyes narrowed as she observed the patrol from the shadows. The scent of decay and the dampness of the swamp seemed to have no effect on her as she silently moved through the undergrowth. The gypsy zealots had taught her the art of stealth, and now, she employed it to navigate the treacherous terrain.

The patrol, oblivious to her presence, continued their vigilance. Khydnah, however, had a keen sense for anomalies in the environment. The disturbance amongst the lily pads caught her attention. She glided towards the edge of the water, her robes brushing against the rotting undergrowth without a sound.

Khydnah's amber eyes flickered with a detached curiosity as she observed the scene unfolding before her. The swampy air clung to her foreign robe, but her demeanor remained stoic and composed. The sight of the pale hand emerging from the murky waters didn't elicit surprise or fear; instead, it triggered a calculating response in the woman.

With a slow and deliberate stride, Khydnah approached the water's edge, her long, sharp nails barely making a sound against the fabric of her robe. She crouched down beside the lily pads, her gaze fixated on the mysterious figure emerging from the depths. The putrid scent of decay surrounded her, yet it seemed inconsequential to the woman who had endured far worse in her past.

Khydnah took the hand and before dipping her other hand into the water until she felt the back of the figure's head. She then carefully pulled them up out of the covered waters before speaking "̷M̶y̶,̸ ̴o̸h̶ ̶m̶y̷.̷ ̶T̴h̸e̷s̸e̵ ̷c̵l̴u̶t̴t̵e̵r̵d̸ ̶w̶a̸t̴e̴r̵s̴ ̴h̶a̸v̵e̸ ̵g̶r̷a̸c̵e̵d̵ ̷m̷e̶ ̷w̴i̷t̶h̵ ̵m̵e̶ ̶w̴i̴t̶h̴ ̸a̷ ̸l̵o̷s̴t̴ ̴s̸o̵u̵l̸,̴"̶ Khydnah remarks with calmness and eerie warmth in her voice "̶W̴h̴a̵t̶ ̷b̸r̴i̴n̸g̵s̷ ̴y̴o̷u̴ ̶t̵o̵ ̶t̵h̵i̸s̸ ̵f̶o̵r̸s̴a̷k̷e̷n̷ ̷p̵l̷a̵c̷e̵?̵ ̵T̸h̷e̵ ̷s̵w̷a̵m̵p̷s̵ ̵h̴a̵v̷e̵ ̸a̷ ̵p̸e̷c̶u̸l̶i̵a̶r̷ ̷w̸a̷y̵ ̷o̵f̷ ̸r̴e̸v̸e̸a̴l̷i̷n̵g̷ ̷s̴e̸c̷r̵e̷t̷s̶,̵ ̴a̵n̵d̴ ̵I̸ ̷a̵m̴ ̵c̸u̶r̷i̶o̸u̶s̶ ̵t̶o̴ ̵k̷n̵o̷w̷ ̴y̸o̷u̷r̵s̶.̷"̶

Welsha was looking forward to a relaxing evening of coffee drinking and pastry eating, but unfortunately it wasn't long before she noticed someone near her laptop bag, not someone she really didn't recognized off the bat. But she figured it could be some Tiger, considering their attire, though it was possible that he was just some random person as well, she wasn't really sure to say the least. Regardless Welsha had simply stopped her swaying as a result of seeing the man, and kept watch from the corner of her eyes, not entirely sure of his intentions. It wasn't until he made his move for their bag, that Welsha considered what action to take, she had two sorta safety precautions for her bag, a glitter bomb and a tracker. She figured she would just wait till she got her order before tracking the man down and getting her laptop back, he would more than likely not be able to hack into right away anyways. But that plan seemed to be unnecessary as a woman she didn't recognize interrupted the knave from pilfering her laptop, it was a action that took Welsha by surprise, as she didn't expect someone else to get into a full on confrontation with the man, especially in a city like New Oasis where there was no telling who was a HP and who wasn't.

But it seemed pretty clear to Welsha that the woman that came to her bags rescue was most definitely a hp, especially considering the size difference between the man and woman, she doubted that the women would of intervened in that manner if she wasn't a HP, and it was even more doubtful that the man would of been intimidated by her if she was a NP. Still though the commotion he made had gathered a bit of attention, and he actually seemed genuinely intimidated as he ran out the door pretty quickly after he got caught, Welsha couldn't hide the little smirk that came to her lips, but she quickly turned that into a full on smile, as the woman returned her bag to it's rightful place. Welsha figured that she should thank their uncredited hero, as she walked towards the woman, and greeting her with a friendly wave, "Hello, I just wanted to thank you for protecting my laptop, it's kind of important to me." she said the last part with a bit of embarrassment, but had continued on "I didn't really expect someone to go through the trouble of getting involved in that, especially in a city like this." she had said that in order to sort of gain confirmation on her status as a hp, but she already figured that she was one anyways. "If there's anyway I can reasonably repay you, I would be happy to assist."

It didn't take long enough before Yona could stop guarding the bag as its true owner seemed to walk right up to her. She didn't need to prove anything as she did notice that she seemed to relish in the sight of the man running away, not to mention taking more delight to know that her bag is right where it was previously. Besides, she seemed genuine enough to be expressing her thanks. She returned a smile and shook her head at the woman's offer to repay her for such a deed. "Ah no need to repay me at all, demoiselle." She said with a slight bow of her head before standing upright. "I've come from abroad and only moved to the city recently. I'm merely exploring it like a tourist, to familiarize myself to the city."

"...In a city like this, huh? She looks like a local here, considering her words." Yona thought to herself. "Hm, perhaps there is a way for her to repay me after all." She then looked outside the window for a brief moment, considering whether she should take the woman's offer for repayment. Once she turned back towards her, she spoke accepting her offer. "Actually, perhaps you could repay me with a little chat. Of course, I am exploring around the city myself. But that doesn't mean I will learn of any sort of cultures seeped deep into New Oasis' roots. Only someone such as you, who has been here longer than me can teach me of all the city's delights and pleasures it has to offer." She said. She then extended out her hand for a handshake, while also introducing myself. "Ah, my manners. Please, call me Songbird. An alias I use while at work. A tea-making connoisseur and fashion enjoyer."

She only gave her an alias as her real name would not fit her current Libere disguise. Besides, she doesn't know how fast word may travel among Dragons. If she gave out her real name, she could find more instances of her being watched even while she's dressed up like this. However, the alias Yona gave was quite dangerous to give. If Welsha or anyone in the cafe ever been to Xia and if they've had some run-ins with the underworld's syndicate there, the name Songbird carried quite a significance that it was an alias that carried death, destruction and in turn fear in its wake due to the many things she's done in recent years before moving to New Oasis. However, the thought slipped her mind as she would figure that she wouldn't meet any Xia locals or people who had connections with them in the city. She only took Welsha as a citizen of New Oasis, not considering whether they were an HP or NP, but she thought of her as an office worker. It only made sense, with not being in a place full of corporate buildings and owning a laptop.

"Do you agree to my request?" She asked, trying to be as courteous as possible. She didn't want to force someone to do something they don't want to. She sort of figured her to be a busy woman with work and that she's merely on her lunch. Perhaps taking a break after a meeting. She really thought she was just an upstanding office worker. Though, considering the smirk... Maybe just a little twisted? It's fine though. Who wouldn't find delight in justice being served?

Welsha was bit surprised with the offered favor being turned down, though that was probably cause she was use to the Tiger culture where everyone has some sort of hidden agenda, herself included. The slight bow the woman gave her, was seemed so refined and respectful, Welsha couldn't help but let out a "Oh" in response before feeling obligation to return the favor, with one of her albeit a bit more clumsy then the one their acquaintance had given them. Welsha listened intently as she explained herself, and how she had only recently entered into the city, and was much interested in exploring it. Though it didn't take long before she changed her mind, on the Request and asked if she would be willing to show her around the place. Welshas smile widened a bit as she figured that it seemed like a reasonable request, and gave a nod of understanding as she continued on.

It wasn't until she introduced herself as Songbird and stated that, that was her alias did Welshas smile fade and her eyes widened, a bit, while she didn't recognize the name she knew enough that aliases were mostly associated with the gangs of New Oasis. She couldn't help but blink a few times at the mention of that being her alias simply saying "Oh..." , she began to wonder if she was a Tiger now, especially when she used the term work. It would make sense if she was a Tiger though it's a bit surprising since she had stated that she was new to the place, she didn't think someone so new to the city would go straight to working for a gang, but what did she know. Welsha gave a slight nod of understanding before allowing her smile to return back to her face. "Sure, i don't mind showing you around the place, though i haven't been in the city that long, mainly just a few years now, I mostly just came here for college." Welsha paused a bit as if remembering something before saying "Anyways people call me Cloud, mostly because they say my head is always stuck in the clouds." She let out a slight chuckle, as a way to ease tension and lighten the mood somewhat. Her smiled then faded for a moment as she looked towards the slightly shorter woman that called herself Songbird, debating on weather to be straightforward or manipulative with her question. Before soon opting to just be straight forward "Sayyyy, your not with the Tigers right?" she asked that question in a more curios than accusatory tone. Welsha herself was a Tiger but she was mostly known as a sort of Secretary and errand boy, and with her stating that she had a alias she was pretty sure that the woman more than likely belonged to a gang or something else.

Two People Hungover is a Hangover But Three People Hangover Is A Crowd. The Point Is, Everything That Is Bad Is Better With More People To Suffer With You

A blur of vision, colors, and shades melded together to make an unreadable mosh of visuals. With each blink, things became more apparent; barely through wet eyes could the sight of a dumpster, brimming with trash bags and surrounded by flies, fill his focus shortly after the smell entered his nose.

The taste of bile tingled in the back of his throat, the slight burn in his esophagus from both acid and alcohol. His mouth was dry, each smack of his lips sounded like rubbing two stones together, and his head was throbbing so bad it was like his brain was in the middle of an aerobic exercise in his skull.

“My fuckin’ head…” Tak mumbled through his booze-soaked breath, a hand reaching up to attempt to push him off the ground, where a stain of various liquids had been busy soaking into his shirt and jacket, the smell of vomit traced amongst the stench of the nearby trash.

“What the hell happened last night?” He was left to question, only finding a black vacant void in his memory as he tried to piece together where he was and how he got here; he was used to being in alleys, sometimes it was because of nights like this or others where he had to take care of business discreetly, but he didn’t recognize these graffiti-covered bricks, and the litter around seemed a bit more well kept than the dirtiest parts of the west.

Finally feeling some of his strength return, Tak propped himself up with his arms, burping as his stomach churned in discomfort from the sudden movement. He reached down to dig into his pocket, “Keys, check…” he switched to the other one, “Wallet, check…” and then finally grabbed at his crotch, giving it a slight pat. “No bumps, check. Looks like I’m all good.”

Making sure everything was in place, he felt good enough to move his legs, bending his knees to crawl back up to his feet; as he did, his body wobbled, arms waving as he struggled to get his balance, nearly falling backward before finally being able to stand up straight.

“Damn, I drank too much, I can barely stand…” He complained, reaching a hand up to rub the back of his neck with a disgruntled frown, “My whole body feels heavy…like I’m carrying a grown ass man on my back…”

With a step forward, Tak waltzed into the streets, hoping to find some familiar street signs or landmarks that would get him back home so he could sleep off this hangover and most likely dump out of his wallet to find it empty for everything but a few pieces of lint, but as he moved, he didn’t feel himself getting any lighter, in fact, he felt like he was getting heavier.

“What the hell’s going on!?” He grunted, continuing to obliviously trudge forward down the sidewalk, gritting his teeth. He didn’t even notice the weird stares he was getting as he made his way past, people stopping to gawk at him while cars slowed down and rolled down their windows to look with wide eyes and dropped jaws.

“Did I get drugged or something? Did someone put some bricks in my shoes?” He tried to piece together why he felt so heavy, but it didn’t come to him until he walked past a store window. He froze and then backpedaled, and what he saw made him have to do a double-take before his expression immediately sunk into a frightened grimace, deep shadows casting over his face, brows audibly crunching tight as his eyes went bloodshot.

Attached to him like a backpack was a whole other man, the still unconscious person hanging limply as he continued to sleep like a baby, unaware of what was going on.

Tak stepped up to the window, placing his hand on the glass in disbelief.

“W-What the fuck……..”

“GET THE HELL OFFA MEEEEEE!”

Immediately, Tak grabbed the man by the waist, attempting to pull him off forcefully as the muscles in his arms and neck strained, veins protruding from under his skin as he grits his teeth so tightly they might crack from under stress. He wrenched his head around in every direction as he grunted with exertion. Despite his attempts, there wasn’t any budge, like he was stuck with super adhesive, and he hadn’t moved an inch away from his back; they were bonded together like a pair of Siamese twins.

Tak huffed and puffed, leaning forward limply as he tried to regain his breath, sweat pouring off his brow as his pupils shook within the whites of his eyes.

“How…How did this happen!? He blurted out before looking up towards the sky for answers, the sun basking him in his glow as he fell to his knees.

“WHAT DID I DO TO DESERVE THIS!?” He shouted to the heavens before angrily slamming his fist into the pavement of the sidewalk.

“Besides that one thing…and that other thing I did! And that one time I did that one thing in middle school, I did nothing to deserve this!”
He cursed, nails digging into the ground.

He held that position of despair for a long moment, silence as people walked past him or avoided the scene entirely, walking to the other side of the street.

“HOW THE FUCK ARE YOU STILL SLEEPING YOU ASSHOLE!?” Abruptly, Tak blurted out, grabbing the man’s hair from over his shoulder and tugging it so hard it almost seemed like he would pull off his whole scalp.

Sweet oblivion - that was the existence that a consciousness found itself within. Stewing within a mix of spinal juices and alcohol was a very sad individual, no larger than a grain of sand, floating in nothingness. This was nice. He didn't have to worry about anything anymore, not when the clarion call of the void was calling to him with its seductive tune. Who was he? Didn't matter. What was happening on the blue orb outside? Didn't know. What are the evil apes up to now? Didn't care. He wanted to clock out by now - cash in his check and be done with it. But things wouldn't be so simple.

Sire, how long do you plan to be here?
As long as I want.
Do you really want to be here?
Yes.
I've got bad news. We're still breathing.
Really?

Yes. And worse still - there's *someone else* attached to us!

“HOW THE FUCK ARE YOU STILL SLEEPING YOU ASSHOLE!?”

The darkness receded and gave way to the light of creation through two jelly orbs within a hungover man's head. The world slowly came to in Hitoshi's eyes, first as splotches of colours and shapes before reformulating as distinct objects. His senses slowly came to as he struggled to get his bearings towards reality itself, coupled with an ungodly headache and a acid-burnt throat. But now there was also the pain from his scalp, as it was tugged on with strength. "Wha- huh...?" Hitoshi managed to sputter out, the pain suddenly jerking him into action.

"HEY WHAT THE HELL!?" Hitoshi shouted in surprise as he tried turn around, only to find out he couldn't. In fact, he couldn't rotate at all!

Don't panic-

A primordial scream came loose from Hitoshi's mouth, stinging his throat further as he realized what was happening.

I told you not to panic, sire.
"WHAT DID YOU DO TO ME!?!?"

SWIMMING AMONGST WATER LILIES
This patrol stank. In more ways than one.

Walking around aimlessly under the guise of keeping an eye out for potential trouble sucked. Doing it in no man's land? Even worse.

The slight chance of encountering a mutated chimera improved their attitude towards the whole entourage a bit, but Asti still couldn't help but feel gloomy. Disposing of anything out here seemed more like receiving the leftovers from a lavish feast than anything else. And that was definitely not the excitement Asti was looking for.

Meh.

They skipped alongside the group, sticking to the more solid parts of the swamp. There was no need for five pairs of eyes to be glued to the bleak horizon, which showed nothing worthwhile anyway, so Asti entertained themself by counting the frogs on the ground. Dead and alive.

But when the tallest amongst them came to a halt, Asti followed suit and turned around to see what was worth the pit stop. Resting was nice! But maybe not here. So this better be good.

It looked like she had found something. Like you'd do with chewing gum stuck to your belongings. Though, beyond the outline of an arm and a body attached to it, Asti could not see much.

But their ears were working just fine. Which, on the other hand, explained their scoff at Khydnah's words. "You make this place sound like some sacred landmark." A quick glance and a little sniff was all it took to quickly come to a different conclusion. Full offence to anyone who thought otherwise.

In particular, Asti eyed a nearby pile of open food cans. Their contents were spilled on the ground, attracting flies in a hellish but fascinating display. Brownish liquids mixed with pieces that resembled the remains of a giant rat. Or a foot. It was hard to tell from a distance, and its bitter odour was sadly not appealing to every living creature present.

"Forsaken place? More like a glorified garbage dump. Zero points, wouldn't even want to dump my bodies here." Which was more than could be said for whatever happened to that person. That, or someone had the desire to catch every disease imaginable by taking a bath out here. Their body, their stupid decisions, no?

Still, Asti's interest was piqued, so they moved purposefully around the deeper patches of undergrowth back to Khydnah's side.

Better look? Yes!

Washing the mud off everything above their boots after this trip? Boo!

Just the sight of the mud clinging to this person's skin and what could only be their clothing made Asti's own body itch irritatingly. Never before had they been so glad to be wearing gloves.

"How about putting your precious soul back in the mud? I don't think it's marinated enough yet." they remarked rather unimpressed by her shtick.

What a lovely individual. Even though her bow to return it was quite clumsy, she more so enjoyed it. She'd probably name it cute that she would return such a gesture. Especially to a stranger whom she has no idea who she was. Perhaps this person is quite a kind and polite individual. Not only that, she was just a college student! Perhaps she was around her age too? She was just liking this person more and more. She was even especially delighted that she'd agree to not only tell her about the place, but show her around too! Talk about above and beyond. Oh, if only she could take her out shopping in Libere right now and let her buy anything she wanted using the syndicate's money. Haha, that would make the elders fume.

Though, one thing did confuse her. As soon as she mentioned work, her mood sort of changed? Was it because she gave her an alias instead of a name? Shit, maybe she should've just given her name. She felt kind of bad now that she sort of dampened the mood. However, she picked it back up anyway. So that alleviated some of her conscience. She actually almost forgot she ordered from the cafe they were in. She was still in waiting however, but she could probably guess that... 'Cloud' was also waiting for her order too. Then she was hit with a question that sparked a whole line of understanding.

"Huh? Tigers? What do you mean by that?"

She asked as she tilted her head a bit, genuinely confused. Her outer expression showed complete ignorance of the topic Welsha was going about, something about tigers. But in her mind, the cogs and gears were at work. "Tigers...? Sounds like a similar title for what they call Dragons..." She thought to herself. "Perhaps... Is that another gang? Did I just walk into another gang's territory?" She could feel that perhaps Welsha got the wrong idea about her, which was actually correct but also not. An alias and work paired together and considering the Tigers question. It could easily be mistaken that she was affiliated with a gang, even though she sort of was. "Ah, no no no, demoiselle. It was a nickname that I used abroad during fashion shows in Libere. Especially, in masquerade events. It stuck so well that my subordinates would call me that at the brewery." She explained trying to clear up the misunderstanding a bit. "Forgive me, allow me to formally introduce myself once more. My name is Yona. Yona Kowloong." She said now knowing that using an alias was quite a big deal in these parts. It could quickly lead to assumptions about gang affiliations. While it wouldn't matter in the East district, she was now wary about the other districts especially the one she is in right now. What other gangs are there and who is who's enemies or allies if they even roll like that? She cannot give any information about her being a Dragon. At least, a rookie in the Dragons. She hasn't even had her first mission yet and she's already making contact with another gang member.

It's cool, it's cool. As long as the woman in front of her does not discover her identity, she can play this safe without any violence breaking out. If it somehow did, which she would prefer not to considering how polite this person is, she would just have to book it back home. Ugh, but her car and the products she bought would be left behind. They were quite expensive too. She just has to play the ignorant foreigner like a top class actress. She's acted before so this should be no problem. She doesn't even have to act that hard either, this Cloud person is just a college student! There's no harm in that. She just has to keep information about her under wraps. Her name is just about enough information she's willing to say out loud for the moment.

"Oh! What's your name, Cloud? If you don't mind giving it away. If using an alias could mean something quite bad, I'd rather not be using it then." She said with a chuckle. "Plus, it only seems right to just use our normal names. It's not like we're coworkers anyway, just two people waiting for their tea. Perhaps, at this point, we could consider ourselves friends, yes?" She then offered a smile to reassure them that she could forgive the misunderstanding. She didn't want to already sour the relationship between the two. Besides, she's looking for friends in the city. Having connections in different places always helps.

Though it did seem a bit concerning as she began to suspect that she could possibly be from another gang altogether, she didn't know what she should do if that is the case. Luckily it didn't take long before Songbird began to explain themselves, Welshas eyes widened a bit as she figured that her assumptions were a more off the mark than she thought only managing to let out a slight "Oh" in response. She gave a slight and quick bow as a apology before giving a verbal "S-Sorry, I just assumed that with the whole alias thing and all, it's mostly associated with gangs within this city and all, and I just didn't know that you were a fashionist or anything like that ahh sorry if I caused any offense by that." Welsha couldn't help but turn slightly red in embarrassment as she rubbed the back of her head, figuring that might of caused offense by associating her with one of the gangs. When the woman introduced herself by her real name and beckoned her for hers, Welsha perked back up and was quick to give out her real name as a sort of apology, "Ahh, my real name is Welsha, Welsha Reaper." Giving her last name was a bit of a risk, but noting that Yona said that she was a sorta fashionist she figured that her last name would more than likely be unfamiliar to her. With her parents both being Generals, it would be quite easy for anyone with a military background to recognize it. But she doubted that was the case with Yona, and she highly doubted that she had been lying to her about everything the entire time.

Corrosive slime, the tongues and information whispered, but seeing it working in person made Dyne cursed inwardly. Those brokers underplayed the size of the monster. Her confidence stemmed from how her Potential remained effective against a soft-body like liquid and slime, but an edge was not an all-end-be.

Despite her confidence, Dyne did not have much fighting experience. Her control over her Potential was middling as well; air manuever, while possible, had yet to be as smooth as she liked it to be.

Dyne propelled right to avoid the reaching arms. Too far right; it took another use of her Potential to stop her from barrelling through a lamp post. She grinned.

"You better wish your power is as good as your words, darling."

With a wave of her arms, a thick rectangular projection appeared above Yarne and exerted a pressure downward. The force it created was strong, but not so that movement was impossible for an HP. It did not resist horizontal movement either, practically acting as a limited. gravitational increase.

She... Didn't expect that she was going to have an easy time with Welsha. Even the fact that she gave her real full name right off the bat. It was quite quick to gain her trust, she wasn't going to lie. Even her apology was very sincere. "Haha, no need to worry, demoiselle. Mistakes can always happen." She said to reassure her that she was fine with it. "Ah, Miss Reaper. A unique last name. Nice to meet you, Welsha." She then noticed many things with what Welsha just said.

So she was correct. There was the presence of another gang in the city. In fact, multiple. As for her family name, Reaper. She had some associates in the syndicate who used to be from the military, most were seasoned vets who saw their due of combat. The Reaper name wasn't mentioned much, but it did hold some value. Well, not like she could do anything with that. She also didn't feel the need to use any of the information she's getting from Welsha for any ill intent. She's already lying to her bunches at this point. Some of the Libere stuff she mentioned is true, but it wasn't her true line of work in recent years.

Speaking of, she didn't expect to already be exchanging numbers with her so she nodded, taking out her phone and giving her number. "Of course, of course. Here's my number." She said before the barista working from the back announced two orders. One was Welsha's and the other was Yona's. The fun thing was that their names were called. "Ah, our orders are ready. Shall we?" She said, waiting for Welsha's reply to go walk with her.

TROUBLE IN TRANSIT
He heard the sigh and ceased his frantic flailing of the crowbar shared between their individual grasps. He scowled, blinked, and her eyes were level with his—two golden medallions drilling her impatience straight through him.

It caught him by surprise. The slap, unexpected and hard, rang loud. It knocked him back and before he knew it he was staring wide-eyed and baffled to the side with a quickly deepening red upon his cheek.

What the fuck just happened? The gears stalled in his brain. He heard the sound of breaking glass from a far off memory, the tingle of the woman’s hand on his cheek spreading like fire.

The crowbar was hers now.

Body relaxing, he listened to the words coming from the woman’s mouth but didn’t face her, still stuck how the slap had left him.

“If you want to act like a child, then you'll be treated like one. Otherwise, be silent.”

When he snapped out of his trauma trance and realized his palms were flat on the ground, Eustass quickly fixed himself, albeit void of his usual emotion. He sat forward in a butterfly position and placed his hands between his legs, palms up, head hung. Then, when the woman ordered him to stand, he did so after a long hesitation.

“Don’t t-...touch me.” That was all he said, still refusing to look her in the eyes. He didn’t need to voice his new willingness to comply with her desires, as his actions had told her already.

Swimming Amongst Water Lilies

You were there. You had seen it. The emergence of chimerics from divine rituals. You understood what He was telling you. Your next job was to collect, to understand. You had been given His Son, and now you were being down the path to save everyone.

The scent of tobacco from your cigarette was overpowered by the smell of the swamp that burned your nostrils; the mud and muck weighed down and stayed your habit; you continued to smile and walk through the filth. The depths of the swamp were up to your knees, enough to make the others of much more regular size be at your eye height.

The distorted figures of broken and twisted trees guided you deeper into the unknown. He was telling you that what you were looking for was here.

This was not a patrol; it was not some menial task. This was a pilgrimage. The very thought nearly brought tears to your eyes from His graciousness for selecting you to be here for such an occasion.

But before you could voice your thanks for He once again graciously allowing you to act upon His will, voices muddled your thoughts. They spoke in tones, not understanding the importance of their actions.

This was not forsaken ground; such words made your skin crawl; we quivered in response, our slits within your flesh threatening to open before you breathed a sigh, swallowing the venom you felt. This was a land where life could flourish; even the most vile places were extensions of His creation, and for you to be here meant that this place hadn’t been abandoned of His light.

Your eyes traced through the darkness, and you approached, beginning to piece together the image of an effigy cloaked in the mud. A being born of the quagmire, still slick with its vernix caseosa. You were here, and it had been presented before you. It could only be described as His plan. Another lost lamb for you to watch over and guide towards the dawn of calamity.

“Poor thing,” You reached underneath your sleeve, pulling out a handkerchief and lightly grabbing them by their chin; with all the gentleness of a stern aunt, you freed her eyes, nose, and mouth from the filth, knowing very well the stains will never come out of the white again as you place the handkerchief back into your sleeve.

You don’t ask questions; answers are given in time, and understanding comes with time. Immediate concerns grip your mind more than understanding the who and why.

“Are you hungry? Thirsty?” You ask with kindness, trying your best to get a look at them through the grime of the swamp.

What's the Tea

Welsha was pretty ecstatic that she hadn't caused any major offense to Yona yet, though she still wasn't entirely sure about the woman she figured that if atleast half of what she said was true, then a friendship with her wouldn't be detrimental. She was after all kind enough to protect her stuff even though they were absolute strangers, so she figured that placing a little trust, in what she was saying would be a great courtesy. Seeing that Yona wasn't at all dissuaded by the mention of her last name, meant that she probably didn't recognize it all that much, something Welsha was totally fine with.

As Yona took out her phone to exchange their numbers, Welsha did much the same giving Yona her mobile number, before eventually pocketing her phone back into her pocket. It didn't take very long before both their names got called by the Baristas "Oh", Welsha supposed that she may of lost track of time when talking to their companion. Either way she wasn't really deterred by that at all, and followed Yona in order to get their orders, grabbing both the cup of Coffee and the bag of Pastries, before taking not of Yonas order which only seemed to consist of tea? A bit surprised that, that was the only thing she had order Welsha decided to offer one of her pastries "Oh, you only know I ordered a few pastries, that are pretty good you know, would you like to try one?"
