Magic Eight Ball
Nope viirune I think you have described it perfectly. The biggest issues with any open world is people taking their hands off. A gm is the game master they are the architect and builder of the world. they need to both design the world and bring that design to reality which means having hooks, quests, and need for the heroes otherwise not much of a good story. even the best writer might have a hard time writing superman works all day at the newspaper cause their is no crime.thank you! ♡ and by plotted out, i mean more of a path to follow/arc to play through, rather than a "here's your setting, do whatever you want, no plot no enemies no goals." i suppose a campaign setting could be a good way to describe it! i'm not familiar with dnd or curse of stradd so i can't say for sure, though. i just have grown tired of sandbox rps, given they tend to fizzle out and die in short time due to not seeming to have any goal or direction. i suppose it's a bit hard to explain now that i'm trying to! but basically i like when a gm has a general idea of where to take the story with the characters, an arc or maybe arcs, with enough planned and worked out throughout it all to keep the story engaging, fun, and interesting to write through, rather than being dropped into a (usually barely developed) open setting and being told "okay, do whatever you want!"
maybe that doesn't make sense! i wish i had a better way with the words and explanations in my head.
