Set in the Fictional County of Knox this roleplay will take place during the Day 0 of the outbreak before the general Populace was even aware of the danger that was coming.

The 'Infectious Disease' "SAHNS" (Severe Acute Hemorrhaging Neurodegenerative Syndrome) or as reported by Personnel in the know "LYVID-21" is a Bio-engineered strain of the Lyssavirus; a type of Rhabdoviridae (Rabies Virus) that was originally meant to work in Tandem with another Organism.

Initial testing brought back unexpected results that led the team working on it down other... questionable avenues.

Subject - J0882

Name: James Allen Craven.

Date of Birth: July, 17th 1964 (29 Years of Age as of the Outbreak)

Biography:

James' backstory isn't an exciting one or at least not to him anyway, He was born an raised on a cattle farm in the south of Kentucky he was taught that honest work allowed one to get places in life.

Working with the animals had inspired James' younger years especially when he'd learn to set the broken legs of several of the young calf in the fields.

His family disapproved of him wanting to get into the field of Medicine to help better his family and make something out of his life- this disapproval sent him running from his family and into the waiting arms of the Armed forces.

A combat medic had not been the field he thought he'd be working in but he was for the first time in his life, happy with his lot in life.

On some of his leaves from duty he'd even met a girl, fell in love and got married; He even had two lovely daughters.

When trouble overseas caused him to be deployed with the rest of his unit he wished them goodbye and went off with a resolute smile...

A terrible occurrence overseas had him Honorably Discharged and sent back to the mainland by the end of the conflict.

Coming home broken and shellshocked rocked his family to the core, his young children couldn't comprehend the Damage done to him and his wife... well she moved on rather quickly.

It's how James finds himself working in a steel-mill back in his Ma and Pa's old family home Alone by the start of the Outbreak.

And nothing of the horrors he saw overseas could prepare him for what's coming and this time on his own turf.

Figured i'd start off the Lore/OOC chat easy.

But Introductions! Howdy, I'm Doowy gonna be using the Character known as James! with probability for another character perspective later on.

Hello! I'm Miaow or Softy :D I'll be using a character called Minyoung, though I may bring in some side characters it'll help the story!

Now I may be absent for a moment, but when I'm back if you guys want me too I'll go over the basic of the SAHNS and it's "Stages" and effects on Human and Lives and how exactly it came to be for context mostly- even if the characters themselves won't know ^^

Greetings, I'm Eldritch, and I will be using a character by the name of Sloan. I will also likely be bringing in some other characters.

Yes please, I appreciate the extra knowledge.
(I love how well thought out this is!)

I love a good lore drop!
Also, are you wanting our character sheets in this thread as well? c:

Sure that'd be lovely! Gives us a good idea on how you guys would like to start this, I had planned on a Kind of Day Zero going through our characters normal lives before the actual onslaught of the Virus starts running through peoples symptoms.

To better simulate the spread of the virus as it mutates it's hosts.

Alrighty I'm back! so lemme get this written down real quick for ya in a really nice format ;P

On the topic of "Severe Acute Hemorrhaging Neurodegenerative Syndrome" or better known as "LYVID-21"

Engineered for Military applications the original intent of LYVID had been used in tandem with another Bio-organism to better aid combat wounds in the field, especially prevalent after the disastrous state of affair overseas.

However application and testing of the Two Organisms showed odd results before the application of the secondary Bio-organism, as stated in Official documents:

(( "The subject, convicted felon "Danny Williams" was recorded dead on the slab at 9:34AM after injection of the 13th generation of LYVID into his bloodstream- we had assumed it was an adverse allergic reaction to the Organism as no other subjects had shown such a reaction... However at 9:48 we detected a stable heart beat within his chest and a wheezing within the room he was located in.

We're not quite sure how it was even possible, the 13th generation had rapidly mutated upon realization it's host body had given out and instead of dying out with it- propagated a 14th generation within his dying heart.

This phenomenon needs to be heavily researched." ))

And thus as they say History occurred, and the government enabled the research into this phenomenon on the assumption the research could enable an alternative form of combat-stim for their soldiers in the field however it would soon come to their realization the project would not bear any useful fruit as LYVID seemed only intent on propagating it's survival and mutating to better assimilate future hosts.

The researchers on the original team would watch as their project was shut down and the LYVID organism and it's generations of research burned to nothing by the ones who used to write their checks.

When all seemed lost... they appeared, the "Research Initiative" a large Privately funded Research Firm who took interest in the "Classified" project in it's earlier stages; with their hand dipped into the pockets of the research it would stretch far beyond it's original limits and the project would find it's home within a "R.I" lab deep within the Kentucky Wilderness.

Their Research would only better prepare the newer generations of the virus for it's inevitable breakout.

image_2024-01-02_222909240.pngName: Minyoung Dam

Nicknames: Minnie

Age: 12

Gender: Female

Date of Birth: October 24th 1981

Biography: Minnie's mother had spent her entire life in South Korea. Her family made just enough money to get by before her and, as an adult, she lived the exact same way. After losing her job due to company bankruptcy, she took the leap and emigrated to America, just like her older sister had.

There, she met a Japanese man who had done just the same thing. He had a high paying job and a structured plan for his life: A wife, one child and a house with twice as many rooms as they needed. They had their first child, Haewon, who was everything they could have dreamed of, leading them one step closer to their plan. They adored her, they smothered her with all the love they could give. For a while, their life was perfect.

Then, their mother had an affair and fell pregnant. Her husband had had a vasectomy just a month after their first child was born, making her unfaithfulness hard to deny. He left her almost immediately.

Minnie's mother held a grudge towards her second child. She had had a perfect life before her birth, therefore it must be her fault that it had all fallen apart. She fell into a deep depression, turning to alcohol to numb her emotions. She avoided both of her children as much as she could, leaving Haewon to raise her own sister. They often limited food in the house and their mother was reluctant to cook, letting them go hungry. As her anger and disdain for her children only grew, her abuse became physical. However, she ensured any marks could be hidden under their school uniform, effectively covering her tracks.

The two spent most of their time away from the house, trying just as hard to avoid their mother. They joined every after-school club and volunteering program they could in an attempt to get free food and shelter. However, it did give them a strange set of random skills. They'd done animal husbandry, woodworking, danced, ran track... whatever extracurricular you could think of, the two had probably tried it.

At the time of the outbreak, Minnie, Haewon and their mother were outside of the Louisville city limits, visiting their aunt.

The Stages of Degeneration

Stage 1: Irritable to loud sounds, the subject will appear tired despite having rested. During this period all subjects can be seen having symptoms similar in nature to a cold as the virus propagates through their bloodstream until it reaches their heart.

Stage 2: With bloodshot eyes these subjects are showing the first signs of the Virus, having hit the heart the virus will spread and reproduce within the body and into every viable vein on the body engorging the veins to such strains that many will burst within the body causing rapid blood loss. However with the virus keeping the heart rate at a constant pace and rapidly scarring over any excess wounds the blood will force itself instead out of any orifice it can, usually from the eyes, nose, ears or gums.

The first signs of degeneration can also be witness as people will stumble, trip or fall over themselves- or bite at their fingers in a form of Autophagia- or even worse at other people, Common scenes show infected of stage 2 mumbling to themselves in a constant pattern

"I- Did- I"

"G-goo- waay"

"I- C'cann't..."

Stage 3: The brain has hit it's stopping point as rapid degeneration of gray tissue has thrown the once intelligent life form back into a more feral state, the only needs in it's mind being to bite and gnaw at anything it can see or find, to both fill its stomach to propagate more of the infections virus.

Stage 4: This stage varies depending on the variation of the Virus (See More on variants: A, B, C and D.)

Variant A: Loners

This variant of infected can be shown as the original, The true descendants of LYVID-21 Show neurological deterioration yet keep most of their locomotion skills enabling them the ability to open doors or windows albeit with great difficulty they also show the ability to somewhat form cohesive words to lure in prey.

This variant however show highly territorial behaviors and will attack any and all other variants including those of the same variation of SAHNS.

Variant B: Hoarders

An offshoot of the SAHNS originating from several wild-dog packs in the Muldraugh area, originally assumed to have feasted off a Infected individual- these hounds were tainted by the virus and made swift work of through their body; Those who were bitten by the hounds would come to show interesting behaviors when full degeneration had ocurred.

These infected will usually travel in packs that can range from a meagre 4-5 to hordes numbering the hundreds, they also host new mutations to better differentiate the two strains.

Hoarders host sharp canines that pushed way through their gums during the first two stages of their infections- making those who are infected with Strain B easy to Identify as their teeth will quickly rot and fall out of their mouth to allow way for the sharper teeth.

The Hoarders are known to have poor locomotive skills- shuffling and crawling to get to their destinations but do not let their slow movement fool you.

Variant C: Squealers.

The unfortunate reality for any of those infected under the age of 13, Squealers seems to have their biological clock halted as their hormones stop producing.

They tend to have hunched frames that prefer to crawl on all fours, and their gangly malnourished limbs allow them to climb effectively where they so wish, to the shock and horror of many of those surviving these creatures keep some of the childish tendencies they once had- "Playing" with the body parts of any Infected or Uninfected individual who did not look up.

They have sharpened nails and elongated legs and forearms to better maneuver themselves in their surroundings, alone they are weak but in numbers they can take down full grown Hoarders or Loners on their own.

Variant D:

-=Expunged=-

Have to keep you on your toes, and just to iterate- those are the Three basic variants I had in mind to start with, as those will be the most obvious to see at the start.

As I'd mentioned to one of you before, this Idea was originally meant to span years story wise- so many more variants will come and die out much like Species do in the wild.

As that's exactly what these are, new species- propagated by a mutagenic blood-born disease.

It all looks awesome! Those variants are horrifying. I'll be honest, I had a little idea of Minnie stumbling upon a dog and wanting to keep them for protection (and cuddles) but the risk of them being in the early stages of infection is scary!

Thank ya, I intended for the fear factor to be amped- everything can kill you in the early days especially since there will only be one or two patient zeroes for the Loner variation.

Loners will have the physical strength of whoever was infected- while having the "Limiters" of the natural body disabled essentially, what our bodies usually stop to keep us from hurting ourselves does not apply to them so they will do "Inhuman" contortions or feats of strength to rip you apart.

The Hoarder is looking to be the more common variant as wild-dogs are actually a real concern over there.

But will host a weaker constitution as the virus variant was not originally adapted to human bodies, but that can change over time.

Squealers are just the general term for Children-Infected but will probably host small variations themselves in the future.

Variant D I'm gonna leave as a secret for now, but you'll probably piece together what it is through various lines of Dialogue.

Speaking of! If you guys want to break down any lore or locations I'm down- to better situate ourselves in the World of Livid-Earth 1993.

And once you guys are comfortable enough with your knowledge I'll get us a forum set up for the roleplay today or tomorrow!

I'll also start us off with a nice Perhaps novel lengthed intro.

Eeee I'm so excited to get going! I'll be going to bed in a few minutes but I'll be back on tomorrow to discuss more lore and/or reply to the forum!

Would it be okay if Minnie's aunt is in stage 2 of infection? I'm thinking early on so when her family arrives, her eyes would be a little bloodshot, stumbling over her own feet, complaining of having a cold the day before... How long does each stage last, by the way?

Depends entirely on how healthy the immune system of the individual is.

Say a chronic smoker with heart conditions? they'd probably enter stage two within 15 hours of the initial infection.

Where as a Healthy Jogger who eats even portions would probably last a good 36 hours before entering stage two.

You did say the Outskirts of Louisville as well right? that'd be perfect honestly, as Louisville is the largest city in the "Fictional" Knox county and soon to be Designated "Evacuation" Zone.

Also as i've never done a roleplay with more than two people how would you like me to go about this?

Doing a character perspective and the situations regarding them then give you both a situation to respond too? As I'm sure we won't be interacting for a good bit of the beginning until the "Louisville Riot" / "Louisville Collapse"

Would love both of your opinions on the matter!

Yep! I went for there on purpose, it keeps them out of the lockdown area so there's more of a survival aspect to her story.

I think that sounds good to me! The three of us writing an opening for each of our characters, showing where they are etc... then having something to respond to so we're not just writing individually? I feel like I'd be more motivated to push Minnie towards the others earlier if I'm just writing on my own rather than waiting for the big collapse, so it'd make me more patient if that makes any sense lol

I also want to just put this out there.

I won't go out of my way to end any characters of yours but I do want you let me know how permanent character deaths are with the both of you.

Sometimes a Deus Ex machina just can't save you
