Chitchat Chat for hockey fans

Fair enough. I'm sure there were a couple of guys that slipped my mind when making that list late at night.

As for Coops, yea I'm just not a fan of how much he whines when he doesn't get his way. Like jeez, the refs can't rig EVERY series for you guys lmao.

Torts is an excellent coach, no doubt. Probably one of the best American born coaches in the NHL. As controversial as he had been, what he has done with a few of the teams he was with was pretty good. Pretty sure he has some records to for American born NHL coaches.

Plus I just love a good Torts fiery press conference lmao.

Bruce is just so lovable and Suter is a very classy guy and an amazing coach. Both guys are great at what they do. Bruce has been excellent for Vancouver so far, I hope they have some success now.

Fair enough. Hey that's the whole point of an opinion- it's yours. Makes total sense why Bones might squeak by Trotz. I must say I am 10000% INCREDIBLY biased as to why Trotz is my top pick. What he did for the Islanders will always have a special place in my heart.

Ngl, can't remember much about Barry Melrose to comment haha.

I was never a Q fan but now ever since the stuff got leaked, I have more than enough to hate him for the filthy human being he is and was.
True.

Agreed. Haha. The mention of Coop last night reminded me of his last stint of whining during the playoffs this past run, irritating and annoying to hear him whine. Especially when it’s over stuff his teams get away with fairly often.

100% agree lol. He’s definitely a top notch coach and cool to see him with some records in his own right and likely to go down as one of the best American born coaches as you mentioned. The fiery coach is simply great and entertaining to boot lmao.

Same haha. Those press conferences can get a tad dull or in some cases whiny, good to see some fiery Tortz pressers to mix it up from time to time.

Agreed. Bruce is definitely that and Sutter is pretty classy, hard nosed and hard worker dating back to what I’ve heard about his playing days but effective and classy. I hope the same for Vancouver and wouldn’t mind seeing more of the Skate jerseys as well. But hopefully Bruce and Vancouver have success would be great to see and the talent there is pretty good. Plus I’m a Horvat fan as well.

Understandable there. Trotz and the Isles were definitely a incredible run during his time there.

That’s understandable. Haha. I’m not sure if he’s appeared much outside of Espn and maybe some for NHL network.

Agreed with Q.

Yes, he was irritating in 2022, and in 2021. I'm sure he's always been like that too I just honestly can't remember 2020, it was all a blur lol.

Torts is a legend for sure, love him or hate him.

Yes they could get a tad bit whiny but ngl they were entertaining lol.

Yea I'm a big fan of Bruce and hoping for the best for Vancouver. Also, yea, the flying skate jersey with the Nucks is pretty cool. Suter is great too.

For sure. Barry Trotz pulled us out of irrelevancy.

Ah got it.

2020 was crazy and a blur for me as well. But yeah he definitely is that type of coach.

Agreed 100% lol

Oh, just to be clear looking back at my phrasing I meant coach press conferences in general can get dull or whiny pending the coach. So Tortz is a fresh change of pace imo. But agreed anyways lol.

Same here

Definitely. Beating an old drum I know, but the wrong guy left the Island this off-season imo. But Ah well, hopefully Lambert and company can carry the torch and get the Isles back to where they were not too long ago.

Fr man lol. Fuck 2020.

Oh ok I get it. Yea, press conferences are usually dull tbh. Torts made 'em kinda wild at times I remember lol.

Yep, hoping for the best for Lane Lambert. He was an assistant coach under Trotz so hopefully he uses a lot of what he learned under Trotz, minus the not playing the young guys on the ice.

1000%! Lol

Oh yeah for sure lol. Tortz is a legend in his own right imo.

That would be nice. Hopefully a few strong and/or bounce back seasons for respective players as well on the isles. Palm getting back to 20+ goals would be nice to see. (Not expecting it, but would be nice for the former duck. He hit 15 I believe last season) Him and Parise both contributing those kind of numbers again would be cool to see. (15 as well for Parise I think last year) Just a couple Isles to mention off the top I’m rooting for to succeed this year with NYI.

For sure.

I hope so man. Hoping for people to bounce back and for Palmieri to have the season he had at the end of 2022 for the WHOLE 2022-23 season. That’d be lit.

Thanks for your rooting for us haha. I have a feeling the Islanders are under dogs once again. Hoping for the best for NYI!

Yeah that would definitely be awesome to see! I think he could do it, hopefully he will. Plenty of potential on the Isles though with some quality and still pretty productive vets like Palm and Parise to name a couple over there in NY on the Island. (Though I’m biased towards those two lol. Former Duck & Wild forwards) But others as well besides them. Mixed with the younger guys should be interesting to watch them play this year.

No problem! When it comes to the East, I always respected and liked the Isles so definitely would want to see them bounce back. Besides the Palm & Parise connection. In all honesty least imo, the underdog spot is often the best spot to be in. Less pressure and we’ve seen what teams can do in that role in the NHL in the past decade or so. (Kings come to mind) But hoping the same and hopefully Lou doesn’t start losing his mind again lol.

We LOVE Parise here on the Island and I think he loves playing here too. He was great for the Wild and great for us. Despite everything, he really put a lot of effort into playing and trying to win.

Oh yeah I’m glad about that! Haha. But honestly happy for him and the Isles none the less. Even at this stage of his career he is still playing pretty strong hockey. Not far off himself from a 20+ goals season like Palm. The Parise-Barzal connection if I recall being what it has been, should continue to be good this season either way.

I didn’t know you guys had Corey Schneider as well or did last year. Lou definitely likes his former Devils haha.

Hell yea, Parise is a great line mate for Barzal. Those two did great stuff tbh when paired together.

HE DOES I'M TELLIN' YA! HE LOVES FORMER DEVILS! LOL! But yea, we've got Cory.

Great to see that kind of line chemistry! Hell of a difference that can make for any player and line. Plus always great to see none the less.

Lol! I thought it was just a couple, but the more I check out the roster the more former devils I keep seeing on the Island. Interesting though haha. makes sense I suppose given his ties.

Definitely fun to see.

Yea Lou loves his former Devils man. Especially Andy Greene.

Looking at the long history and starting to make more sense there with Greene for me. Dude does have his love and loyalty to his players. Is Greene officially done with the Isles?
He does.

Also yes I think Andy Greene is done with the Isles.

Lou said “he’s not an option for the Isles anymore.”

Alright, I was thinking he was done based off our past talks during last season with him and Chara and how they looked at this stage of their career on the ice. So, looks like the Isles have gotten slightly younger with those two gone and Romanov and Cholowoski who I believe was also added to the roster, now there as well.

I thought he was done too but apparently he never officially announced any sort of retirement.

And yea, Cholowski and Romanov have been added to the roster.

Ah I see. So also like Chara.

Yeah, I knew about Romanov. Cholowski was just one I didn’t really know for sure. One of those depth moves that slipped by for me.

Top Five Favorite Left Wings (Retired):
1. Rick Nash
2. Ilya Kovalchuk (not exactly retired last I heard. Plays in Russia still I believe, but former NHL’er that’s unlikely to return in the NHL so… yeah kinda fits haha)

4. Mike Leclerc
5. Dany Heatly

HM- Chris Kunitz, Henrik Zetterberg, Václav Prospal & Simon Gagné

2. Marián Hossa
3. Daniel Alfredsson
4. Teemu Selanne

Top Five Favorite Defenseman (Retired):
1. Sergei Gonchar
2. Pavel Kubina
3. Filip Kuba
4. Dan Boyle
5. Scott Niedermayer

HM- Chris Pronger (Didn’t always agree with some of his actions. But a key former Duck on that Cup team and I can’t deny he was really good) Tomáš Kaberle & Shea Weber (HM- Cause it might be too early to place him on the retired or active lists top five with his current situation. Though I’d imagine he’s done with his playing career. Otherwise he’d be in the top five on either side Retired/Active. Defenseman version of Carey Price I’d say for me with their respective situations and where to put them)

Plenty of former Ducks & Bolts on this list, many of those Bolts from the same era. But here’s a quick off the top list of favorites by position on the retired side. An Active favorites list by position I’ll have down the line some time or maybe sooner then I think. I was going to include it here with the retired list but…. I might need to recheck some things.

Respectable & elite player) & Sam Reinhart (NHL 22 BAP with him, Skinner, Olofsson & Okposo were great times in Buffalo)

Top Five Favorite Right Wings (Active):
1. Mats Zuccarello

I still
Absolutely hate the Bruins but they’ve had and have some players that make a liked/favored/hm list for me. PB & Ullmark being a couple of others. Though one was a Sabre first)

(I will say the rare times I see or get to see a NYR game, Zibenajad & Panarin are usually all over the place and fun to watch. Pretty good players and don’t seem to stop with their effort & pace. So potentially HM or future HM.)

Warning: Get ready to see a lot of Flames on this next list, Calgary is stacked at Defenseman too….

Top Five Favorite Defenseman (Active):
1. P.K Subban (Understandable his on Ice antics draw plenty of hate/displeasure from opposing fans. But off ice the dude is a cool guy with a lot of community/charity efforts over the years. Plus I’m still a fan dating back to the Nashville days, just don’t always agree with his antics on ice)
2. Erik Karlsson
3. Rasmus Dahlin
4. Rasmus Andersson
5. Noah Hanifin

5. Martin Brodeur (Basically the same as PF. Annoyingly good, I think he’s slightly overrated but still really good. Can’t recall dirty play or what he’s like as a human being off the ice. So purely hockey related here.)

I like and agree with this list, especially for the hated active players.

As for retired, I'd definitely also add Matt Cooke the Penguin. VERY dirty player if you remember.

As for your other lists, I really like 'em! Cool ideas! Gotta say I'm surprised with PK as the top pick for your favorite defenseman, but I see your reasoning.

I dislike him a ton because he's a dirty dirty player on the ice, but there's no denying he's all class off the ice, which is funny because he's so scummy and easy to hate on the ice.
