Last update of the day. Impressed with today's productivity ngl. Gotta love being locked in and having no reason to be outside, so have plenty of time to work lmao. Drew Josuke from JJBA Part 4 and my OC for the Four Suits RP , Athania Kaloronos.

Its that part of the night when this guy posts his sketches xD. Anyways shading 3hard5me so tonight working on trying to nail down more confident lines and detail work. So to do that I'm drawing Goddess Asuna from SAO Alicization (mostly because damn todays episode was so good oof muh heart). I'll see y'all in an hour or two with a progress update.

Yeah Asuna's Goddess Stacia design easily one of my hardest drawing projects so far when it comes to line work so many small details. Also long flowing hair is always a struggle.

Yeah I think we're done done lmao. Kind of tired of staring at Asuna and its getting late. I can feel my patience improving. I've upped my focus time from 1 hour to 3 hours so thats pretty huge.

Got a goodnights rest and now we're back on the grind. Asuna can take a back seat for now while I recreate the iconic battle between best boys Eugeo and Bercouli. Kind of been on that SAO hype train though once I feel like it I'll branch back out to different series or do some OC art for once.

I'm putting this one on pause for today. Spent most of my energy driving and surviving in a post pandemic world. Hopefully I didnt get the 'Rony from being outside more than an hour or two.

I feel that in my soul. Every time I have to go out, I feel like the rest of the day is shot, and it's all I can do to just lay there, nevermind art or chores.

On a less-depressing note, I am super enjoying seeing your in-progress stuff. Watching the drawings come together is A+.

Ikr considering that Cali has the most cases and no one is taking the wearing a mask or socially distance thing seriously even here in Norcal it feels like a matter of time honestly.

Also yeah ikr i love seeing the progress pics too. Feels so satisfying. In the near future when I do go back to digital I'll have be recording time lapses as well and streaming stuff live again.

Use your [laughs in Sac/Yuba/Redding] while you can, at least. The Southland is dumb, and it doesn't look like we've got any chance of changing. Might as well mock us for it.

ETA: when you make recordings, I'd love to see them!

Update 4 - Fleshing out the details and shadows. Its all coming together. I'll finish pencilling in an hour or two.

Final Update - I think I've learned what I want from this and it is time to move on. I might go back and render out more details. But I have a much larger project to work on in order to learn more about doing comic layouts that I wanted to take on before the end of the month.

Went back to do digital today. I need to figure out how teeth and the mouth work. Which is odd coming from a kid who grew up spending their afternoons playing with dental models and hanging out in my dad's dental office. Used the hash mark style of shading I've been trying out in some of my traditional drawings since I know that the smudge and spread technique from my experience takes forever. Though realistically I should really try and use different brushes and mess with the values and tones but for this I wanted to stick to using only the Ink Brush since that's closest to the tools I use irl (also because the pencil tool in Sketchbook is friggin weird).

Some things I need to improve on. Obviously sticking closer to the reference as the deviation in the head tilt resulted in a lot of anatomy being off. Nose looks weird. Eyes don't really match up. Obviously the mouth looks fricking wack. And now looking at it the neck is way too thick. Part of it is the pressure of learning a different medium while also trying to hone the basics to a T. So unlike my traditional drawings the structure falls apart because I'm worrying about proper technique. I think in the future I just need to not be afraid of going darker as the only resource I have to worry about is time. (Which sucks because this took 3 hours to do which is beyond horrid for just pencil and ink).

As for some stuff I think I did pretty well on. The detail on the hair is pretty solid and gives a kind of realistic yet comic vibe. The wrinkles in the clothing especially the shirt also look really clean too. And for my first venture into drawing portraits of celebrities. Well its a pretty good start imo.

In the future I'll need to improve my pencil work and in general just learn more about the tools at my disposal. As these two things are probably why the picture overall feels lacking. So if any of you digital boys/girls want to lend a br0der a hand that would be really appreciated.

Note About Criticism
Also future note to anyone following this thread. Don't be afraid to submit your critiques as long as its honest constructive criticism and not just outright shitting on me. First and foremost, I'm not looking for praise. I'm looking to improve and grow. Part of that process is facing the crowd understanding the things you did wrong and the ways you can do better. There are only so many things that I can see, analyze and actively correct. Since different people interpret information differently, another set of eyes may see the things that I cannot in the moment.

Ok new strats. Or well old strats with new purpose. Gonna running it back to high school me and just drawing a literal f***ton of random shit and see where it takes me. Because while doing full illustrations is fun its also super time consuming and I've noticed that one of my problems is that Im hot garbage at figuring out how to draw with each line being intentionally placed. So gonna iron that out and work on that tech skill.
