Shoko refuses to have her spirit be consumed by her brother. She flees the High Temple and the Fire Nation on her eighteenth birthday. Although the Fire Sages call upon soldiers for aid, they are unable to locate her. Shoko seems to disappear and is not heard from for years to come.

Ten years after her disappearance, Shoko makes herself known again with an army of believers at her side. Men, women, and all others who took Shoko's story to heart. They see her as the true Avatar and curse Shogo for ever thinking he could consume his sister's spirit. She makes it known she will not submit to the will of the White Lotus without a fight.

Shoko declares war on her brother.

The Avatar War is quiet in its first year. There is no grand warfare, no soldiers sent to the front line. It is as if there is no war at all. Much of the general public does not realize what is going on, but there are whispers in the underworld. Shoko continues to gather an army of supporters.

Although the Fire Nation is not officially involved in the war, tensions in the capital are high. The Fire Sages and White Lotus struggle to pinpoint Shoko's base of operations. They send White Lotus agents to track her down, but none return.

The White Lotus expands its resources to the underworld. A bounty is placed to bring Shoko to the Fire Sages alive. Propaganda against her is spread like wildfire.

For the first time in many years, Shoko faces difficulty recruiting. She begins to understand she will need to take risks in order to counter the onslaught against her reputation. Seemingly random incidents of heroism begin to occur in the Earth Kingdom's rural areas. A child saved from a mudslide, a devastating wildfire extinguished. Whispers of a savior who bends water and earth fill the hearts of villagers with gratitude and admiration.

Recognizing her efforts, the White Lotus weaponizes the other nations. They begin with the Northern Water Tribe and reinforce their beliefs that women should not be warriors. Shogo is more suitable to bend water than his sister. In the Southern Water Tribe, they plant radicals who antagonize villagers to "join Shoko's cause" and cause more harm than good.

Shoko sends representatives to the air temples. Some are sympathetic to her cause, others are rooted in their beliefs. The air temples are ultimately reluctant to take an official stance in favor of Shogo or Shoko. Despite their neutrality, a handful of Air Nomads at each of the temples are inspired to play an active role in the Avatar War. Some are in favor of Shoko, others offer aid to her brother.

For the first time, Shogo makes a public statement regarding his position as the Avatar. He calls for an official alliance with the Fire Nation to solidify their support in the ongoing controversy. He appeals to his sister in his speech. Should something or someone threaten the peace between nations, the world would need their Avatar.

Rumors spread of a meeting between Shoko and the Earth King, supposedly with the help of Earth Sages. This creates tension between the Fire Nation and the Earth Kingdom. Political figures are sent to Ba Sing Se and Omashu to speak on behalf of the Fire Lord. In response, the Earth Kingdom claims to have never met with Shoko at all.

Threat of war between the Fire Nation and Earth Kingdom rise as a result of Shogo and Shoko's actions. To avoid this conflict, Shogo calls for a peaceful meeting with his sister. He implores her to consider the repercussions of a war between nations at the hands of Avatars.

In a surprise move, Shoko agrees. They agree to meet in the Western Air Temple with Air Nomads present as a neutral party. Shogo arrives with a company of White Lotus officials and a dozen Fire Nation soldiers. Shoko seems to arrive alone. During their private meeting with the monks, the White Lotus are taken and the soldiers knocked unconscious. The revelation causes Shogo to lash out and attack his sister. The Air Nomads are unable to interfere with the fight.

The battle ends with the collapse of the temple building. Shogo saves himself with the use of his airbending, but he suffers the loss of his left eye. It is unclear what happens to Shoko. Her body is nowhere to be found amongst the rubble.

There is no sign of Shoko in the months following the incident. However, her army does not disband. Sightings of her followers spreading her message in the Earth Kingdom and Southern Water Tribe continue. They continue to act in her name, clashing with Shogo’s forces when necessary. However, there is no sign of Shoko, sparking rumors that she has already died in the explosion at the Air Temple.

However, Shogo does not display additional bending abilities nor was any proof of Shoko’s death found. People are unsure of what to believe.

The Order of the White Lotus finds themselves desperate. They call for each nation to send their best warriors to undergo training and trials to test their strength, resilience, and spirit.

In order to restore peace and balance, Shoko and her army must be defeated.
