Sad Shroom
Please don't be scared off by this crazy big post! I'm just trying to tell all the details, and did so in a fairly pompous manner for brain-fried whimsical reasons. Feel free to just scim through though, but I'd really appreciate it if you read through Cheers!
I'll kick things off by saying, wow, my brain is completely and utterly fried. Dagnabbit late nights and colds, and lack of sleep. If things here are unclear, this is the (rather terrible) reason why. It's also highly likely that I'll miss out something important, because I'm pretty much making this up as I go along, woo, brain fried improvisation, sounds like an absolute recipe for disaster.
Ooh, now there's an idea.
Welcome, hello, sorry, hi! Thanks for checking out my rather sketchy little recruitment thread thingy. As a reward, please take this cookie:
Don't eat it all in one bite; you'll probaby indigestion yourself to death, and sadly corpses can't RP.
Anyhow, down to business. I am here, dear reader, because I need your help. I am a seventeen year old English male with ginger hair, pretty much no muscle mass and rather dashing sideburns. I've been roleplaying for... erm... several years now, and over time I've conquered the ropes of one-liners to mount the scary mountain of actually writing detailed posts (the shock, the horror!), whereby I currently reside. I am in my final year of secondary education, and have applied to go to university next year to study English Literature and Creative Writing. Thus, as well as writing for fun times and giddy enjoyment, I'm also constantly hoping to develop my writing skill, my voice, my writing techniques, my characterisation, my structuring, the length of my sideburns, ect.
However, like many prospective writers, I suffer from the horrifying ailment of Procrastination. Yes, 'tis true; as much as I try to fight it, that dreaded P-word crushes me down in my bed like a worm stuck under a shoe, forces me to search the internet aimlessly instead of writing, confines me to scouring through a wasteland of Smash Bros videos, and encourages me to undertake activities not involving my beloved writing. This is something I wish to combat. And that, my dear reader, is where you come in.
Sadly, there is no medical cure (to my knowledge, anyway) for the P-word, and even if there was, it would probably not be found on a role-playing website. What a role-playing website can offer up, however, is role-players. Fellow writers, literary chums, wonderful people with a beautiful array of unique experiences and interests with which to piece together their writing with. People who can entertain, inspire, and most importantly, make you write to a deadline.
I realise I've somehow lapsed into somewhat of a political speech here (thanks a bunch, stir-fried brain), so we'll now get onto the important stuff: roleplaying! (yayeeayehhayhey!)
So, like I've already said, I'm a big fan of detail. Most of my posts are several paragraphs long, though I don't wish for that to scare you off. However, as a GM, I never demand a specific post length, because detail should actually be, y'know, detail, as opposed to awkward, stilted rambling for the sake of satisfying a posting quota. I expect posts to have genuine effort put into them, and be insightful, in depth, and inentertaining. Bland rambling (a little like this, he says, hypocritically) does not cure the P-word. Thus I'm looking for someone willing to put in the effort and write properly. If you belong to the dreaded one-liner faction, you can kindly exit my kingdom before I send the grammar mercenaries after you.
As for genres, at the moment I'm up for pretty much anything. As a writer and RPer though I normally do either fantasy or sci-fi of some description. At the moment, I'm craving something slice-of-lifey, but with a slice of something else, perhaps another genre like supernatural or dystopia done in a more slice-of-life style. Like I've said though, I'm up for pretty much anything, as long as the detail's there. This applies especially to fantasy and sci-fi things; I want particular depth in our RPing world so that I can write posts of the appropriate depth. Oh yeah, I should probably also say I'd rather not do something fandom-y, unless you have an absolutely brilliant idea for something.
Having said all that, I'm now going to throw a complete curve-ball into all this and say I'm actually looking for something very different to normal.
Truth be told, I'm still not that sure exactly what I want to do ( xD , even after goodness knows how many paragraphs of rambling). But rest assured, it'll definitely be a departure from normal romance-centric pairing-focussed 1x1s. That's not to say I'm completely against writing romance, but I certainly don't want things to be structured in the normal way. Because the main purpose of this all is to keep me writing, and to keep me developing, so my ideas are focussed around that.
Here's a couple of my fairly vague ideas:
Idea Numero Uno: We write something akin to a two-voiced novel thingy. So our two characters would be largely separate, and we'd be able to write in a more novelly format, experiment with styles, with side characters, with events, ect. Yet to keep us interested enough, our characters actions would have somewhat of an affect on the other characters actions, so that there is still stuff to react to, but we're affectively running two different plotlines in the same world.
This is all probably quite confusing, so here are some examples of how it would work:
So yeah, those are some examples of how it would work. I've not really though about any of them in great depth yet since I've no idea if this'll garner any interest at all, but if you have your own ideas adhering to any of these structures then please suggest them. 1x1 RPs are only really truly successful when both people are putting in an equal amount of effort and enthusiasm, so I don't want to stick to half-baked ideas and alienate you when you might have something far more fantastic stored away in your brain box.
Idea Numero... Uno plus Uno: We start a PM which is set up more for scenarios than for a proper, over-arching RP plot. So for example, we might start something which is a married couple having some kind of debate. Wow, that's not the most exciting of ideas, how about a hero talking to a dragon? A princess rejecting a really govelly Prince-Charming wannabe? The Great Galactic President having a chance encounter with a random orphan who changes his life forever? A detective's showdown with a master criminal? A dying man telling a life-changing secret to his beloved? Pretty much anything, but a short, one-scene long anything. This would allow us to do a load of short, varying ideas of a wide variety of genres, trialing characters, writing styles, ect, and generally I think would be really beneficial to anybody wishing to improve their writing.
In addition, I say PM this time because actually, I'm rather expecting any posts made this time to be a lot shorter, since like I say, I don't like rambled detail, and seeing as our two characters will be directly conversing, when there's nothing new to describe, it might well end up as one-liners of dialogue. So if we were to do this idea, I'd require pretty frequent activity, so that it doesn't get stale really quickly.
Idea Numero Uno plus Uno V2(no): We do something along the lines of what I just said above, but slot it into a wider world, instead of just doing a load of completely random encounters. Each scene, it's likely our characters would be completely different, but something new would be revealed, something that links to the overarching theme. The characters would potentially all be linked together too, or linked to this central idea or theme. Then slowly, we'd built up this bigger picture of what's really happening undeneath, and then perhaps have a more traditional climax with some of the most central characters involved at the end.
We could do this either in Pm as described above, or in a thread and with a little more detail around dialogue.
I think that just about covers things for now, though I may well update at a later stage. As some final words, I want a partner who contributes ideas too, and doesn't just leave everything to me. This annoys me beyond belief, and is more likely to let the p-curse attack even worse than before as opposed to curing it. Some other extras, I guess: I usually play a man seeing as I am also a man, but in some of these ideas I'd definitely want to play both sexes.
Balls to that, you're probably already stuffed as it is! xD Thanks for hearing me out and bearing with this huge info dump, and I hope there's something in that spaghetti of words that tickles your fancy. If you have any major ideas of your own, then please suggest them in a reply here! So, cheers, here's a consolatory lolly-pop for your troubles:
If you're interested, then reply down below or send me a PM, whichever you prefer.

Main Course: 'Curee Procrastinationato (it's an Italian dish, ok?), with a side of genres, expectations, and pompousness.'

Yet to keep us interested enough, our characters actions would have somewhat of an affect on the other characters actions, so that there is still stuff to react to, but we're affectively running two different plotlines in the same world.
This is all probably quite confusing, so here are some examples of how it would work:
- Some kind of hierarchy thing, either in a city, or country, probably dystopian or fantasy or sci-fi in genre. One of our characters is a member of the upper class, one a member of the lower class, maybe a resistance member. The upper class character would have their own agenda in terms of setting out laws, persuing their own goals, buying things, if they were twisted enough they could maybe cause minor chaos, ect. These would all have an affect on the lower class character, as things the upper class character had set up would affect their life. Then, maybe their resistance group could do an attack or something on a posh place, so that upper-class-Joe and his mates react to that. Thus the two character's actions directly affect each-other, but the characters would barely meet up directly.
- Some kind of plot with time-shenanigans. A character in the past could do things that affect a character in the future, and potentially vice versa with greater time-shenanigans. Or maybe the person in the future could have a one-way time communication thingy that tells things to the person in the past, who then in turn would do actions that affect the person in the future. Not too fleshed out, I know, but like I said, 'vague ideas'. This could be pretty much any genre, even with a different genre for each different person.
- Pretty much anything with two characters with the same goal, separated somehow. Like, something adventure-puzzly, or sci-fi horrory, where people on one side press buttons that affect those on the other side somehow, and vice-versa.
