But seriously. Just start typing. Anything from simple to detailed.

DA DUM. DA DUM. DA DUM.

Like a hammer at the forge, his heartbeat raced with an unnerving volume. Each pulse quivering the barrel of his Taurus PT-92 pistol aimed at the darkened hallway through the open door he just fell through. From his vantage point on his back, the only light he could detect flooded in from the slat storm window on the wall behind him.

"Damn it." Frank swore quietly.

Light from the full moon filtered in through the dust to illuminate the dusty bathroom. Horizontal beams of light played across the claw foot tub, cracked toilet, and aged man without betraying a hint of useful detail. The air moved gently into the room, bringing with it the smell of death and decay.

For five minutes, Frank lay there, pistol aimed at the darkness, listening for the steps of his pursuers. It had been a simple task. Find shelter for the night. Should be an easy thing. Frank had approached a large neighborhood of brick mill houses. Houses slapped together in the 1920's to house the large work force of the long since closed cotton mill. Small houses, two bed rooms, a living room, kitchen, and a bathroom. A bathroom in which frank now lay breathing labored, trying to slow his heart.

As the sounds of his hunters slipped of into the night, He lowered his weapon. "Zombies." Frank thought in disgust and disbelief. Not the Zombies of his childhood, terrible soulless things raised by voodoo to work in fields. No, it was decaying shambles of flesh and bone that ripped and tore with teeth fingers at the living. Brought on by some disease, that the news stations covered non stop for the three days it took them to go off line.

"Zombies." Frank uttered once more to the empty room, before laying his head on the floor and listening to the stillness of the night.
