Addison Esperance

— antisocial
— Machiavellian
— sadistic.

What is there to say about Addison Esperance? Quite a bit, actually. He's a philanthropist, frequently donating to charities. He's a humanitarian, funding the tireless efforts of countless altruistic organizations and even lending his family's name to a few of them. He's personable, down-to-earth despite his privileged background, and happy to defer credit to those who work under him. "After all," he says, "they're the ones who take care of most day-to-day operations. I just provide some money to help the process along." Talented yet humble, soft-spoken yet unhesitant to defend his values, subtle yet distinct. You'd be hard-pressed to find anything bad to say about him.

... If you're a member of the general public, at least.

Behind closed doors, Addison Esperance is a man of many faces but only one name. He's a cutthroat businessman, an unapologetic blackmailer, and an amoral manipulator. He'll do anything in order to get what he wants, and he wants a lot. There's no empathy in this man, not a single shred, and there's no place for useless things like feelings. While clearly outclassed in terms of raw physical power, he's backed up by multiple guards at any given moment, and that—combined with his cunning mind—more than makes up for his physical weakness. With his unreadable demeanor and empty smile, there's no wonder that he's made quite a few enemies in his time negotiating (or coercing, or simply blatantly threatening) deals that are either in his favor or equally beneficial for him and the other party.

He's a dangerous man, a snake in the grass—an adder, if you will. Woe to any poor sod that crosses him in private.

Age: 30
Birthday: December 31st, 1992
Gender: cis male
Height: 5'11" (180cm)
Orientation: ¯\_(ツ)_/¯
Typical settings: modern, modern fantasy, royal court(-esque) settings. gothic Victorian if played as a vampire.
Usually played as: aristocratic/old money human, cunning vampire.

A non-comprehensive list of things that I'd be interested in exploring:

  • imbalances in power
  • psychological warfare
  • a pitting of equally brilliant minds against each other.

also, to be completely upfront? Addison is more likely to put your chara in a modern-day Khuk Khi Kai than get involved rhomantically with them. best not to try ya luck.

Meredith

Meredith Esperance

— withdrawn
— hesitant
— the hedgehog's dilemma.

One can't help but to feel disheartened when, after time and time again, any and all attempts at escaping are completely stymied. This is even more the case when failed attempts result in being punished soundly. Meredith has learned that lesson long ago, and she's given up on trying to claw her way out from her brother's clutches. Even so, she hopes for the day when she can finally and truly be free, whether it's with another person's help or solely through her own efforts. The latter option admittedly seems more unlikely, with her current apathetic disposition, but... perhaps actually interacting with others will help to rejuvenate that long-burned out spark in her?

For the most part, Meredith keeps to herself, rarely leaving the lonely mansion within which she resides with her brother. Their parents still live, but far away, whiling away their days in some sunny sort of paradise in the way rich people completely disconnected from the daily drudgery of commonfolk do, and even if they were around, they wouldn't do anything to help her anyways. Addison has always been the golden child, the one destined for greatness from the very start... and if he pestered Meredith the way all children pester their siblings, well, that simply can't be helped, can it? It's just a normal squabble between brothers. On the rare occasions she does emerge from that dreary mansion, she usually can be found tucked away in a corner of a library. There are some books that can't be found within the library in her own home, after all.

Age: (almost) 27
Birthday: February 29th, 1996
Gender: trans female (AMAB)
Height: 5'9" (175cm)
Orientation: straight
Typical settings: modern. sometimes royal court(-esque) settings.
Usually played as: aristocratic/old money human.

A non-comprehensive list of things that I'd be interested in exploring:
  • scenarios wherein Meredith manages to no longer live in her brother's shadow
  • genuine human connection
  • healing from her trauma
    • I guess that's hurt/comfort, lol
  • less often, I may be interested in plotlines that involve her escaping from one toxic situation only to fall into another one.
you might be wondering if Meredith exists 'outside of' her brother. Addison will always be present in some way, but whether he's actively present or more of just a background detail and she's already escaped from her brother is totally dependent on context and plot. Meredith is her own person; her brother simply (and unfortunately) happens to have had a large hand in her formative experiences growing up.

Donghua

Donghua Tang

— warm
— dryly humorous
— methodical.

Exhausted from the stress and drudgery of daily life? Need a break from all your worries and woes? Feel free to come down to La Tea Dou, a cozy café that also sells tins of loose leaf tea. There's quite a variety, too—from more typical flavors like matcha and chai, to soothing options like chamomile and honey ginger, to less commonly served flower teas such as chrysanthemum and lotus. The amount of options might feel a bit overwhelming, but you can take as long as you need to decide on what you want. Pair your drink with some delicious pastries and then take a seat! Pick from the usual sort of café table, outdoor seating (weather providing, of course), or even the comfy area in the back. There's a nice reading corner there with two thin bookshelves and a circular rug, as well as two sofas with fabric upholstery.

After a bout with cancer as a child and a subsequent above-knee amputation performed on his right leg, Donghua often uses a wheelchair to get around. Prosthetics have historically chafed too much for his comfort, and while he does use forearm crutches, especially in places where a wheelchair would be rather unwieldy, he'll default to using his wheelchair. It isn't uncommon to see him out and about with his dog, Charlie, and stopping by to say hello to the owners and workers of other local businesses.

Age: 35
Birthday: February 7th, 1988
Gender: trans male (AFAB)
Height: 5'4" (162.5cm)
Orientation: gay
Typical settings: modern.
Usually played as: human.

A non-comprehensive list of things that I'd be interested in exploring:
  • slice of life
  • Dou assuming a mentor-esque role for someone younger than him
  • interacting with fellow small business owners and developing friendships with them
  • ppppppossibly romance???
no edge here like the Esperance siblings above, just normalcy and sweet stuff. well, maybe a little bittersweetness.

Obadiah
59502315_z9JQCoxOm.jpg

Obadiah Catherson

— obscene
— insouciant
— public enemy number one.

D&D-verse:

If you want to shorten your life by five years through sheer anger and annoyance, you've come to the right place. A ladies' man through and through (and a men's man too, while we're at it), this charlatan likes to scam folks out of their hard-earned money and be a general nuisance. While he'll never be rich—he spends all of his ill-gained money on booze and good eats—he's able to keep the cash flowing in thanks to his sweet-talking smart mouth and his skilful deception.

Though he usually works alone, Obadiah is more than happy to team up with a fellow scumbag in order to increase the chances of success for whatever hare-brained scheme he's cooked up now. Two brains are better than one, after all! ... And he doesn't have much of one.

Modern fantasy:

He was never all that smart, but he was brawny and athletic, and that was all that mattered. His joining the high school football team wasn't a matter of if, but when, and he made for a pretty damn good quarterback. (He kept instinctively using his tail for a long time, though, and that was penalized thanks to it being an unfair advantage. Oops.)

His performance on the team netted him a full-ride scholarship as a quarterback in college, where he proceeded to be an absolute menace of a frat boy. Despite his rather subpar grades, however, he still graduated with a bachelor's degree in communications. Not that he really put it to good use: Diah ended up going into law enforcement where, somewhat concerningly, he specifically asked to start as—and remain—a beat cop.

Age: 29
Birthday: January 4th
Gender: cis male
Height: 7'0"
Orientation: homoromantic pansexual
Typical settings: generic, vaguely medieval fantasy (think D&D or Arthurian legends). sometimes modern fantasy.
Usually played as: tiefling. or, like, "vaguely demon-looking fella" if OGL 1.1 wasn't dead in the water. (LOL)

A non-comprehensive list of things that I'd be interested in exploring:
  • a "partners in crime" dynamic
  • someone who can keep this little bastard in line
  • the frat boy era of his (modern fantasy) life
note that while he is homoromantic, the actual chances of him being successfully rhomanced are, well.......... they're higher than the chance of successfully rhomancing Addison, but not by much. he doesn't like being tied down.
