Fantasy ~The Lords of the Magistone: The Impossible Liberation~ - Settings/Locations

SkyGinge

Sad Shroom
The Setting

The island of Valia, home of this RP, is an expansive and diverse landmass full of dramatic and oft treacherous scenery. Generally, however, it is a nation overflowing with forests and foliage. Though the population wasn't particularly huge even before the Shadow King murdered everyone, it would take about a month's march to travel from the eastern-most point to the western-most point. Courtesy of our local evil mastermind, the entire realm is in a post-apocalyptic state, and whilst nature has emerged relatively unscathed, all villages and buildings bar the remotest and secluded villages and huts lie in ruins, and the Shadow King's monsters roam freely, though the exact purpose of this is unclear. Unfortunately, I am about as artistically talented as a dung-heap so was unable to compile a map, so you'll have to work off of my descriptions alone:

Central ValiaCentral Valia is the tamest landscape, and is where most of the island's population lived, although in spite of this, there's still probably no village within half a day's walk of another village. These villages are scattered across a long, flat forest, though centuries of woodcraft and forming towns means that this forest is a lot less dense than other parts of Valia. Numerous paths ran through the woods, connecting the villages and allowing for tradesmen and travelers to easily navigate the country. Unfortunately, most of these villages have now been destroyed, and what were once happy, rural hubbubs of life and tradition are now rows upon row of shattered architecture and rubble mounds. It is far too dangerous to explore nowadays as numerous Shadow Warriors and Shadow Beasts are still on patrol; and besides, it seem unlikely any valuable loot and resources have survived the scouring.

Western Valia
Western Valia was the second-most populated sector of the nation before the apocalypse. It is characterised by a number of fishing villages built beside Valia's expansive beaches and dangerous cliffs. Though scenic, Valia's western-most coast was often hit by terrible storms that sometimes caused tragedies along the coastline. Additionally, the distance from the capital Aliak in the east, the inevitable hub of all trade and academics, deterred some folk from taking up western residence. As a result, the west was probably the most traditional part of the nation, very supersticious and culturally probably a century behind in some places. That said, also due to this distance, it is also one of the parts of the realm that hasn't been destroyed quite as badly by the Shadow King.

Southern Valia
Southern Valia is the home of Valia's most impressive valleys, with immensely dense forestry and tangled rivers and waterfalls. The landscape here is ridiculously inclined, with the dynamicness of the valleys increasing the further south and east you go. These valleys, whilst overpoweringly beautiful, rendered human life difficult. That said, there is still the odd village, and a good few standalone huts from ancient magicians who were once outcasts. Some of these settlements haven't even been totally destroyed, though their occupants have all vanished, and hence it is a good place to hide and a good place to search for resources (though also a good place to accidentally tumble off of a hill to your death). This is Valia at its wildest.

Eastern ValiaIn the
East of Valia, beyond a ring of nameless mountains (Valian's have a history of not naming most things, or even chronicling most of their history), there is a barren desert which extends all the way to the eastern coast. It is almost entirely bare save for a couple of pyramids of mysterious, ancient origin. Some say the entire area was created by an ancient tribe of powerful Earth Mages, back in the Dark Days when magic was outlawed. In any case, it has no settlements, and is often barraged by sandstorms. The harshness now makes it a perfect place to hide, though the cost of this hiding is dire, desperate survival.

Nothern Valia
Valia's North is a mysterious place. A snowy wasteland full of icy peaks and frozen lakes, the constant snowstorms made it impossible for any settlements to be formed. That said, Valian folklore suggests there was once a group of Ice Mages who made their home in the far, far north, where coincidentally there is no recorded map data. Valians are generally so unused to the cold conditions that even the idea of trying to hide here would seem like a worse alternative than giving in to the Shadow King.

Last, but not least, the capital city of
Aliak. Located amidst a crown of mountains just west of the eastern deserts, Aliak is a great walled city which was once a thriving hub of life and innovation. The city is hexagonal in shape, courtesy of the almighty walls that connect the six corners, at which stand the realms most identifiable structures: the five Universities of Magic, and, on the northern most corner, the dazzling Castle of Light, made of white marble and long the home of Valian royalty. Otherwise, the city was packed with row after row after row of houses and stalls, clinical in design. Aliak was the first to be hit in the Shadow King's attack, and is now occupied by a ton of Shadow Warriors. And yet strangely, not a single building has been razed, in dire contrast to the ruins elsewhere. What could this mean?
