Realistic or Modern The Dawning Night

ReadingTheRunes

Proud to be pagan
Luka had spent most of his day sleeping and getting ready for the afternoon. This was due to him working in a club behind the bar. It was known throughout the city that he was a natural bartender if you needed a drink or to simply vent your sorrows. Even Though he talked to many people at the bar, he did not know many people on a first name basis. One person he was very friendly with was a woman named Alexandra. Luka had met her in the club when he was working at the bar. There was something different about her. She was always full of life and a spectrum of wisdom.

It was 7pm, near the beginning of his shift. A very long shift. As he walked down the streets into the main square of the city, a strange eeriness swept over him as the night dawned on him. It wasn’t long before he was near to the club, feeling somewhat uncomfortable. For some reason, Luka felt as if he was being followed. He kept glancing around behind him, trying not to freak out and lose his mind. He stopped for a moment, trying to recompose himself before walking into work. After a few seconds, Luka walked straight into the club and set himself up behind the bar. Even though he was now inside, he still couldn’t shake this odd feeling. Nevertheless he carried on serving drinks to whomever paid him.

Almost like clockwork, as soon as Luka was behind the bar, Alex stepped into the club with a little wristband that allowed for her entry. She looked all kinds of dolled up with her makeup done and wearing fun party clothes - tight black jeans, a fun and colorful tanktop, some kind of funky shoes with wings on them. She wore quirky things like this all the time, so it wasn't that big of a difference from what she might usually show up in. She had incredibly pale skin, so under the colorful lights she looked like her own kind of mix-match color collage.

She made her way inside, working her way through a crowd of people until she reached the bar. As soon as she saw Luka, her face lit up in a big cheesy grin, "Hey Luka~" she greeted him as she sat down at one of the barstools, "How's my favorite bartender?"

Luka was still a little confused and disconnected from the world at the present time. That was until a familiar voice took him back to the club. He turned around to face her. "Why hello there my favourite woman." Luka replied in a rather happy let still distant voice. After he finished speaking, he brought a hand to his face- trying to wake himself up as he tried to forget the weirdness which was following him.

"Sorry Alex been a bit pre-occupied as of late. Something... Nevermind." With that one thought in mind, he immediately stopped what he was about to say. Luka didn't want to seem weird and possibly freak Alex out. "You know how it is. Work can be...interesting." He chuckled, trying to keep it all together. "So what have you been up to as of late?" Eventhough he knew Alex, there was something about her that was entirely unknown to him. Nonetheless, he knew that he could trust her with his life. Luka just hoped that his trust was well placed.

Alex grinned when he called her his favorite woman, a light fluttering feeling going through her chest. How sweet of him, and how silly of her that it affected her so much, even though he called her that every once in a while. Still, something about him, his response wasn't right. It was actually a little concerning to her, "You sure you're okay Luka? You seem a little out of it." she gave him a minute to respond then decided to answer his question

"I actually got back from a little trip! I just got back from some time at the beach. I went at night, it was soooo beautiful the way the moon reflected off the water. And little phosphorescent bacteria lit up the waves. Have you ever seen anything like that before?"

Luka could hear that she was talking. However, all that was travelling through his ears was white mumbling noise. Consequently he walked out behind the bar and onto the dance floor without saying a word to Alex. He was almost zoning out, every single noise was only like a small bee passing his ear. As he walked through the crowds of dancing people, it was as if they parted for him.

No matter what he did to try and feel his normal self, Luka still felt like he was being watched. Not only did he felt as if he was being watched- he was equally slowly deteriorating in himself. It was almost as if he had been beguiled by something. Saying that, what could have possibly beguiled him? After all, nothing possessed magical powers that could have done such a thing...

He slowly walked through the club, zoning out about everything except the floor closest to him. Before he knew it, he had walked out of the club in an almost zombie-like state. Inside he was truly panicking and paranoid with everything that was going on. He knew deep down that his actions today were abnormal and could not be explained. As much as he tried Luka could not stop himself from walking. Soon enough he was standing in the middle of the busy city road. A sudden flood of realisation came through his body when he saw the headlights of incoming traffic. However there was nothing he could do; he was frozen in position. Luka just simply closed his eyes and trying to pretend that he was still behind the bar.

The next stage of his life was simple. He was going to die.

Luka had no time to react when the bus suddenly hit him by force. His life was over...

Alex watched as Luka began walking out of the bar, onto the dance floor, away from her. This was certainly... unsettling. There was no rhyme or reason for this, Luka was simply in a daze and she could see it clear as the dissociation on his face. There was no stopping him just walking, though she slowly followed, making sure to watch him carefully. When he walked out of the club, she had to pause to get her hand stamped so she would be able to get back inside, which is why she wasn't there to push him out of the way from that bus.

Her eyes went wide, seeing her friend get hit and launched forward. And just like that, she was a blur, running to his broken body. She couldn't just let this happen, he was too young to let this happen. She didn't stop to think of the consequences, she just acted on the impulse that she couldn't just stand idly by and watch as someone she grew to like became hurt beyond belief.

All he felt now was a sharp pain on his neck, and then experience total blackness

~~~~~~~~~3 days later~~~~~~~~~~
They were in an unfamiliar room now, though it looked like a bedroom based on how it was set up with a dresser and a tiny seating area. Luka would notice he was very comfortable, oddly enough, laying on a soft mattress. Alex was now leaning over Luka, looking different, more mature in her face and clothes than her silly tank tops and angel shoes. She wore black pants and had on a blouse with a jacket on over it, in her hand was a cup of dark-reddish liquid. The liquid itself looked a little too thick to be wine, but she held it out to him, "Glad to see you're finally awake now. Here, drink this, you'll feel a little more awake."
