Subscript and superscript...?

I'm trying to edit my signature. I used to have a sweet HTML based signature on another website that made good use of subscript and superscript characters, but I can't seem to get either to work on here. I've used what I thought was the appropriate


text


and hit preview, but it didn't seem to work. Is there a way to do this? Or a way to at least attain the same results?
