Sith Inquisitor

Jaye

ミㅇㅅㅇ彡
While the galaxy waged war you were a busy surviving your life as a slave off-planet. You were transported (with a group of fellow slaves) to Korriban. Upon arrival, you were all inspected by a Sith Training Master who noticed the Force potential in you. You were removed from the group and placed in a mandatory training program. Weeks later, you are told that you are free to do what you like for the day (for the first time since your arrival) - but you are not to leave the academy.

You could visit the Interrogation Chamber or the Duelling Chamber. You could attempt to gain access to the Archives or ask a Master to train you. You know that the Sith Training Master (the highest rank currently in the academy) is in his room should you wish to find him.

There is also Bothan in one of the main halls, who arrived last night. He is casually sitting on the floor leaning against a pillar. He seems in no hurry and smiles at everyone that passes. You have heard other recruits saying that he wields a green Lightsaber.

What do you do?

  1. Head to the Interrogation Chamber.
  2. Enter the Duelling Chamber.
  3. Gain access to the Archives.
  4. Find a Master to train you.
  5. Visit the Training Master's room.
  6. [Intimidation] Go question the Jedi-looking Bothan.
  7. Go observe the Jedi-looking Bothan.

You leave your chambers and head through the halls of the Academy. The dark stone looms over you in a manner you're sure is intended to be intimidating. You reach the archives and begin looking for information. A helpful droid approaches you (a sort of librarian of the archives) and asks if it may help you find anything specific. From where you are, you can't see anyone in the archives, but then again mostly what you can see are shelves.

What do you do?

  1. Turn the droid away - choose knowledge to seek
  2. Ask the droid - choose knowledge to seek
  3. Leave the archives - take a previous option

What knowledge do you seek?

  1. Knowledge on Force powers
  2. Knowledge on Lightsaber techniques
  3. Lore on the Force
  4. Lore on Lightsabers and crystals
  5. Information on the Empire
  6. Information on Korriban

"No." You turn the droid away, deciding to search the archives yourself.

Entering the maze of shelves, you gain a better sense for the chambers. The place is a labyrinth of sorts, mostly made from shelves of tomes, datapads and holocrons but there are some more exotic parts to the archives too. There are some traps set through-out the chambers and you've heard that there are many secret areas too.

You carefully wander the shelves, avoiding and disabling traps and browsing the shelves at your leisure. You're not looking for anything specific but merely letting information find you.

Instead of finding information, however, you find a Wroonian woman bent over a holocron, muttering to herself. You're not yet close enough to hear what she's saying or to distinguish the holocron, however. From her rich clothes, however, you know she's no mere acolyte.

What do you do?

  1. Ignore her - keep searching for knowledge
  2. Search for knowledge near her
  3. [Stealth] Subtly approach her - try to hear her mutterings/see her holocron
  4. [Force Stealth] Sneak up on her - try to hear her mutterings/see her holocron
  5. Approach her and introduce yourself

Curiosity getting the better of you, you sneak closer, trying to stick to the shadows that the shelves cast. You manage to sneak close enough to hear some of her muttering; words and phrases such as 'shades', 'imbedded' and 'the colour of'. You try to sneak into a better angle so as to peer into the holocron when it suddenly switches off and closes. You look up, looking for an explanation and find the Wroonian looking at you with an unimpressed expression.

Now that she's looking right at you, you recognise her; Sith Master Ayumi. Rumoured to be the daughter of one of the Dark Council, if you believe those sorts of things. You notice her fingertips exchange a spark of electricity between them. You notice that you are the only person around who she could conceivably Force Lightning.

What do you do?

  1. Ignore the threat - bow and excuse yourself
  2. [Persuade] Deny everything - flatter her as a distraction
  3. [Force Persuade] Use the Force to convince her that everything is fine
  4. [Persuade] Prostrate yourself - apologise for intruding
  5. Apologise for intruding - ask what she was looking at
  6. Apologise for intruding - say you were looking for a Sith Master to learn from
  7. Prepare to defend yourself
  8. Prepare to duel her

"Err... S-sorry, I was just... uhh... interested in what you were doing... We're uhh... 'inquisitors' for a reason... I guess...? I mean, uhh... Inquisi-tive, so... Uhh... Forgive me for being curious...  Mind uhh... sharing what it is you were looking at...? If not, uhh... I can just leave... >~<"

Master Ayumi's face twists unkindly. The electricity disappears from inbetween her digits, thankfully, but before you even have time to breath a sigh of relief you find yourself hoisted up by your throat. The Sith Master's clenched hand is the obvious source for your sudden suspended choking. You gag a little around the squeeze of your windpipe but eventually you are dropped to the floor.

In a sharp tone, Master Ayumi tells you; "Save your 'inquisition' for when you have the power to back it up. And do not think to insult me again by calling me a mere 'Inquisitor'."

It occurs to you that you're not completely sure you know what designation of Sith Master Ayumi is. She's a Sith Master, sure, but you don't know what branch or specialisation of Sith she is. You suspect from her last statement that she is not a Sith Inquisitor like you hope to be.

She looks down at you, a slight sneer on her features.

"Well? Why do you still bother me with your presence?"

What do you do?

  1. Beat a hasty retreat - head elsewhere
  2. Beat a hasty retreat - look in other parts of the Archives
  3. Hover around - read things near her

You meander, trying to think of a good reason to stick around. The thing is, she's a Sith Master and she's actually talking to you and she's a little incredible. Curiosity may have killed the cat but you're no cat and they do say knowledge is power. You want to learn from her. Maybe even more than a simple lesson...

What if you could secure a Master now? While you're still an Acolyte? That would give you such an advantage over the others.

"Y-yes, I don't have the power yet. But, perhaps with the right tutelage, I would? I'm told I have potential - with the right teacher I..." how do you spin this so it benefits her as well as you... "I could become a great asset."

It's a little disheartening that the first thing she does is scoff. But at least she looks you up and down. After a brief pause, she replies;

"I don't play those games, Acolyte. Talking in circles bores me. Come back when you're someone interesting and-" she hesitates for the first time, "And I'll see if you interest me."

She shoves the holocron in her pocket and strides off in the direction of the Archives exit

What do you do?

  1. Continue perusing the Archives
  2. Leave the Archives - do something else
  3. Ask Master Ayumi what would be of 'interest'
  4. Follow Master Ayumi
  5. Attack Master Ayumi for dismissing you

Interest her? Oh, you could interest her alright. You should interest her right now.

You draw your lightsaber and push with the Force to fling yourself at her. You choose a feint - making it look like you'll hit with your 'saber but actually balling the Force up in your fist, ready to dispense pure pain on all of Master Ayumi's nerves. She's only half-turned by the time you reach her and you see her eyes drawn towards your Lightsaber. Proud of yourself, you swing your other more hidden fist into her stoma-

!

There's a searing pain in your wrist.

!

You push your other hand forward, following throw on your feint as you'd planned and trying to sink your lightsaber into her side. Your lightsaber misses as you're tossed back. You start to push yourself to your feet but the job is taken away from you as there is a crushing feeling constricting your throat. You're lifted up into the air, your feet kicking desperately for some leverage.

You're pulled forward, not within kicking range but within easy hearing range. The constriction tightens and you feel your bones protesting as you're shaken around from your throat. Master Ayumi has pulled you in front of her.

"You dumb, stupid little tail-head! You have the gall to- Ah ha!" She laughs in your face as you continue to fight for breath.

"Oh this is priceles- Oh! Oh no wait this is perfect." A dark look overcomes her face.

She turns and you try to fight back - you try to summon the Force to you but the constriction around your throat just tightens. You try to swing your Lightsaber but the hilt is pulled from your hand and into Master Ayumi's. She 'tut's you in an amused tone. You want to keep fighting back the more she constricts your throat the more black spots appear in your vision. You think it would be very dangerous to black out.

Worst of all, she's dragging you out of the Archives and through the Academy halls. People are staring. You think you see some of your peers but you can't be sure. You see a Bothan, sitting against a pillar. You see-

You see someone's quarters. You know these quarters. These quarters belong to your Training Master.

He's looking at the pair of you. He doesn't look pleased.

You're kind of glad you're too choked to say anything because you don't know what you'd say.

"What is the meaning of this." he asks in clipped tones of Master Ayumi.

"Ahh, am I mistaken? Is this not that prized tail-head of yours? I thought yours was purple, but, ah-ha, I'm always mixing up these little twerps. They're just so worthless."

You're not sure through your thrashing, but you think maybe you saw something like a wince from your Training Master? Your sight is half blacked-out spots by now.

Distantly, you can hear them still talking.

"-Let go?" That's Ayumi speaking.

In a rush, your throat opens up, your knees and palms hit the ground and you are sucking in gulps of air. You can hear someone walking away and a door shutting behind you. You try and quell your gulping.

"Get. Up." Comes the sharp, angry voice of your Training Master.

You immediately get to your feet. There's no choice when he says it like that. He looks angry. He looks at your wrist.

"Give me one good reason why I should fix that."

You glance down at your wrist. Your hand is missing. Oh.

What do you do?

  1. Tell him just the plain truth of what you did
  2. Beg him to help you
  3. Stay silent
  4. [Persuade] Tell him that what you did was impressive/will garner reputation

  7. [Persuade] Tell him that he needs you at peak health so as to be trained
  8. [Lie/Persuade] Tell him it was your 'saber hand that was cut off and that your duelling training won't look as good

"There's no reason at all." you reply.

His brow raises and you continue before he can speak;

[COLOR= rgb(39, 42, 52)]"This is what I've caused myself, which is proof that I'm not strong enough for this crap. So it doesn't matter if you fix this hand; it won't fix me and my inability to control my own emotions."[/COLOR]

There is a long pause, but you don't dare meet his eyes. After just long enough for you to begin imagining punishments, he speaks.

"A lack of control is not your problem. A lack of direction, of outlet..." He sounds like he's speaking to himself more than you. However he also isn't torturing or just executing you, so you suppose you said something right. He looks away, thoughtful. After a moment he seems to snap back into himself.

[COLOR= rgb(39, 42, 52)]"Attack someone beyond your skill again and you will die - either at their hand or at mine. Is that understood?"[/COLOR]

"Yessir." there's only ever one answer to a question like that. He nods at you.

"You'll be meeting me early tomorrow in the main hall. If you survive. Now get out."

You hurry to obey his order. His doors slide shut behind you.

Having survived the encounter with your Training Master, you feel emboldened. You think it's time to express some of your emotions - find an 'outlet' as he suggested. You head to the duelling chamber.

The duelling chamber is a long hall, extended since the Academy earned more prestige within the Sith. There are many dueling areas numbering two by two down the hall and the walls are lined with cages; some containing prisoners and others not. To the left of the entrance is a computer. It controls the training droids which enter from a user-specified door and wait in a duelling ring until its sensors detect something else in the ring. There are also mini-terminals next to each cage that control the cage to the right of it.

A number of these training areas are occupied, but as you've just entered the only ones you can see clearly are the four in front of you. In the duelling area to your left (occupying two duelling areas) is a Corellian and a dark-green skinned Twi'lek wildly attacking each other. The Corellian seems to be fighting Force heavy while the Twi'lek is using more of a balance between saberstaff and Force. Three hunks of metal that were probably once droids lay in the upper-left duelling area and next to the lower-left duelling area is a cage with a collapsed Twi'lek inside it. You're not sure if they're dead or just knocked-out. Some of those around the left hand side are obvious watching on in either an eager or cunning manner.

The area to the upper-right is unoccupied, but the area on your right is not. In it are two of your peers - a female Ayrou named Kee'yn and a Bpfasshi named Ledknet - who are sparing with both the Force and Lightsabers. They look like they're winding down. Around the edges of the hall there are also a few Sith; they're either waiting to duel someone already duelling, waiting for someone to challenge them or just watching the events around them.

What do you do?

  1. Watch the left-hand duel
  2. Watch the right-hand duel
  3. Join in the left-hand duel
  4. Join in the right-hand duel
  5. Ask to join the left-hand duel
  6. Ask to join the right-hand duel

You smirk to yourself - this should be fun.

With a Force Leap, you launch yourself into the two-wide sparring area and strike the other Twi'lek. The Corellian they were duelling gives a victorious shout before you fling some Force Lightning their way. The shout stops and turns into a growl instead.

"Tail-head!" the Corellian sneers at you.

"Don't say that!" the other Twi'lek snaps, "And you!" they turn their attention to you, "Stay out of this if you're just going to cause trouble!"

You don't plan on taking that advice. But you do need a plan for how you'll duel the pair.

What do you do?

Twice in one day you've been called that ugly word - the dark-green one sounded upset about it to. Maybe you'll go back to attacking her later, but for now you have a better plan. She didn't seem all that aggressive towards you, after all.

You blast lightning at the Corellian once more and he scowls, redirecting some and weathering the rest. The other Twi'lek shoots you a look before sprinting forward with her saberstaff. After a few more hits, they get the idea - you're standing united against the Corellian.

Once this is established, you go on the offensive. You strike hard and furious, sending volts deep into your opponents muscles and Force pushing them into the floor, crushing them down. Your ally dances around the edges, dashing in to strike at the Corellian when you provide openings and distracting your opponent long enough for you to storm in and wreck havoc on them.

After not long the pair of you have beat the Corellian down to the point where they're having trouble standing. You look over at your ally, seeing a glint in their eye. They're furious and their fury is being directed at the now helpless Corellian. You know that look - the Twi'lek plans on ending this duel lethally.

What do you do?

  1. Egg the twi'lek on
  2. Take the kill for yourself
  3. Let them do as they wish
  4. [Cunning] Convince them the kill wouldn't be smart

"Killing someone as petty as him would bring shame to the Twi'lek name. Though I suppose early retirement wouldn't hurt them much, so do as you wish. Better safe than sorry with filthy weasels such as them."

The dark-green one looks sideways at you, a strange expression amidst the fury on their face. They look back at the Corellian, thinking for a moment. Then they approach their opponent who glares upward. The Twilek smiles cruelly with their saberstaff drawn. They approach and, surprisingly, turn their lightsaber off. The Corellian looks up, confused, and the Twi'lek leans down, places a hand on the small of their back and whispers something in their ear. A second later the Corellian spasms, out of control.

The Twi'lek walks back towards you and gives you a shrug.

"Guess you had a point or whatever."

Behind them, you notice the Corellian screaming and trying to stand. You wonder what the Twi'lek did to them.

"So," says the Twi'lek, "You here to duel or what?"

How do you reply?

  1. "Yeah - do you want to duel?"
  2. "Yeah - do you want to team up against someone?"
  3. Say that you were going to duel bots - on your own.
  4. Say that you were going to duel bots - ask if she wants to join.

You nod.

"Yeah, I thought I'd get in some, uh, 'duels'." You look around the chamber, "Would you like to team up against someone, again?"

The Twi'lek looks around the chamber, their gaze acknowledging Kee'yn and Ledknet's duel before looking around at the others around the edge of the training areas. You notice their gaze fall on the cage with the collapsed Twi'lek in it - their gaze lingers there before they turn away. You wouldn't think they were particularly effected, except you can understand how their Lekku twitch. They're distressed.

"Sure." They finally reply, a little distracted, "Should we crash those two's fight?" They gesture over at Kee'yn and Ledknet, "Or go provoke someone into getting in the ring? Oh hey-" They point towards someone leaning against the wall, the Twi'lek's face seems surprised, "Is that Dex Howall? Ha- imagine provoking him."

That's a point. You know Dex Howall - everyone here does. Dex was the Academy's star student. He was already being entertained by Masters who wished for him to be their apprentice and he often got favoured by Masters who worked at the Academy. For good reason, though. You've seen him duel before and he is vicious and brutal. You can't recall him ever loosing a battle before. It's somewhat unusual to see him in the Duelling Chambers, actually, as he doesn't usually bother with the 'riff-raff'.

"Oh, yeah, I don't think we've actually met before? I'm Taeel'fon."

What do you do?

  1. Check on the collapsed Twi'lek

  4. Challenge Dex to a duel

"I'm Ayoz'akay." It's... interesting to meet someone who isn't obviously manipulating you or being manipulated by you.

You look around the chamber, as Taeel is doing, and consider your options. Your gaze keeps being drawn back to Dex Howall. You're feeling feisty and ambitious. You've already done so much crazy stuff today: you faced off with a Sith Master and survived, you dived into a duel and won, you talked an ally into a far more cruel and unusual punishment than mere death.

Maybe it's the adrenaline, maybe it's insanity. Maybe it's something in the universe telling you that you can do this. Maybe it's coincidence. But you want to take on Dex Howall.

"What if we did?" you propose.

"Hm?"

You turn to Taeel to extrapolate.

"Imagine duelling Dex. Two against one - that would up our odds. And he clearly wants to fight, otherwise he wouldn't be here. Let's give him what he wants and - who knows? Maybe we'll come out on top."

Taeel looks uncomfortable, looking between Dex and you.

"Look - I'm going to go over there and challenge him. Do you want to be sitting here on the sidelines, just watching? Or do you wanna come and be incredible with me?"

Taeel looks no less uncomfortable but a lot more convinced. They crack a grin.

"Fuck it. Let's be crazy. Go tell him - I'll grab us a ring."

You nod and the pair of you head in separate directions. Now you just have to think about how to approach Dex.

How do you challenge him?

  1. Aggressively - "Fight me."
  2. Provokingly - "I bet you won't win."
  3. Silently - Gesture to the ring, cock an eyebrow.
  4. Politely - "Hello. Would you like to duel?"
  5. [Flirt] Charmingly - "Care for a duel?  :smile3:  "
  6. Deceptively - Offer to secretly gang up on Taeel with Dex.

You stomp up to Dex, a determined look on your face. He looks you up and down, visibly unimpressed. You step up into his personal space and he finally responds to you, getting up from his lean and standing with his chest puffed out at you.

"See that ring she's setting up?" you gesture back at Taeel, "We're gonna fight you in it, you piece of shit. We're gonna kick the fucking daylights out of you right here, right now." You offer him a parting sneer and turn sharply on your heel, storming back to the ring.

He'll follow. He can't let such a bold declaration go unanswered. Taeel'fon looks up at you as you arrive in the ring.

"Rings ready. Damn," they look over your shoulder, "Dex looks pissed. I mean, I guess he always looks pissed but y'know. Fuck."

They look at you, a bit of mania in their eyes, "Ah ha, fuck! This is crazy. This is cool but totally crazy. You're crazy, did you know that? This is fucking crazy."

Dex arrives in the ring. The second he steps in, before you even have time to say anything, Dex pulls his arm back and flings his lightsaber at the pair of you. It spins around horizontally, separating the pair of you lest you get hit. It seems the fight is on.

As the pair of you are thrown apart you pick yourself back up. Taeel is looking at you, as if hoping for guidance. You grin shark-wide. With a laugh lacing your voice you say to them:

"We have no chance of winning." You stand up straight, your saver in one hand and the Force crackling in the other, "Ready to kick his arse anyway?"

Taeel practically explodes with laughter, shouts;

"Fuck yes!" to the room and lunges at Dex.

You keep light on your feet, taking advantage when Taeel leaves openings for you. The other Twi'lek seems to fight with their Lightsaber and the Force equally, which means you're free to be flexible with how you fight. Dex fights Force heavy, rarely raising his short saber.

You assault him with Taeel's help, never allowing him a moments rest. When he flings you far, you strike out with lightning. When you get close you force him to defend against your blade. Taeel helps, each of you covering when the other needs a gulp of breath.

But still, you get the sense that Dex is holding back. He seems like he wouldn't care about fighting Taeel, except they're making him care by getting up close and clashing against him at every chance. Thy seem to have committed themselves fully to this crazy idea. Surprisingly enough, he doesn't just strike the pair of you down within a minute of upping his game to match your aggression. Whether this is because he can't or because he's toying with you is yet to be seen. You find yourself constantly switching what weapon you use, though you remain aggressive throughout, hoping that it's your skills that keep him fighting and not his idle curiosity.

Nonetheless, your extended duel begins to draw a crowd. Those around the edge of the chamber fravitate towards your ring and even Kee'yn and Ledknet nearby have finally finished their duel, turning to watch your own.

As the fight pulls on, Dex grows more and more violent in his blows - which are thankfully spaced between you and Taeel - but his Djem So form was no less precise. You notice now that - toying or not - he's concentrating on you far more than Taeel. Thankfully your partner is helping draw his attention, though, and giving you some opportunity to move and switch approaches.

Finally, at what seems to be the peak of his anger, Dex shouts;

"Enough!" And a blast of Force energy rolls off of him, knocking you and Taeel back into the surrounding crowd. They eagerly push you forward back into the ring, causing you to stumble somewhat.

As the crowd pushes, he points at you,

"Why does the Training Master want to teach you so badly?"

What do you do?

  1. Don't answer - surge forward and attack.
  2. [Deception] Give a long, delayed answer - subtly motion for Taeel to backstab him.
  3. Tell him you don't know.

...

Dex Howall, of all people, noticed it too?

So it's not just in your mind. The Training Master really is favouring you. But. But what have- Why would-

"That's what I'm trying to figure out," you answer in a subdued voice, "Trying to see if I'm even worth their damned time. Pretty sure I'm not but, heh, I guess you're the one to judge that for now."

You see Taeel in the corner of your eye, on the tips of their toes and clearly ready to lunge back in. You quickly speak;

"So let's test the idiot called Ayoz'akay. Just you and me, Dex Howall. Let us see if there's any reason to either of our existences."

You see Taeel turn to you, something like confusion or betrayal on their face. Dex, however, merely snarls at you. For a moment, you think he'll attack, but then he speaks;

"You're right. You're not worth their time. Every other Master here is tutoring me personally. Even now, I know Master Zalika waits out in the second Hall, hoping I will join her expedition. But you worthless scum steal the Training Master's precious time. Well,"

He points his 'saber at you.

"Let us end that now, then. When I will, I will do all the Sith a favour and end your sorry excuse for a life."

You nod and meet his attack as he lunges at you. Now the stakes are real. There's always a chance of a duel between Sith ending lethally but it was not an everyday occurrence. They needed some Sith to survive and become soldiers, after all. But this one clearly would be your second brush with death for the day. Even you are not sure which outcome you hope for.

At the side of the ring, edging around the inner-edge of the crowd, Taeel catches your eye and makes a confused motion. They seem to be asking if you seriously expect them to hang back.

As you slam your lightsaber into Dex's own, sparks from the collision flicking into both your faces, you reconsider your approach.

What do you do?
