Sandbox?

I visited the Personal Discussion forum and seen a lot of 'Sandbox' prefixes, what does that mean?
 
The sandbox is a thread where a user can write down his ideas in order to preserve them for future consideration. Say you have an idea but it is not completely fleshed out yet. Write down in the Sandbox what you already thought of and continue later when inspiration strikes.
