Elouan is a mostly solitary creature, preferring to keep to himself than reach out to others. For a majority of his life, it was just him and his brother. He’s still adjusting to the fact that there are other people who actually care about him and don’t just want to hurt him or manipulate him. He is cautious at nearly every kind gesture, carefully inspecting every gift given and denying most affection offered.

Elouan has been hurt by nearly everyone he held dear, even his brother. He is not easily forgiving, and often needs time to himself before he begins talking to people again. Although after he gets to know you and confirms that you’re not trying to take advantage of him or his brother, he’s not letting go anytime soon. He is a fiercely loyal friend, and will sacrifice his life for those he loves most.

For Elouan, there was no life before his little brother was born. He remembers little from the five years before Maxence arrived, but everything after is crystal clear. It was a sweltering hot day when his brother was born, brought into the world screaming and wailing. Then, suddenly he was silent. For a few moments, Elouan was terrified that the child had perished, before his mother began shrieking. She had an aneurysm right there in the hospital bed, nearly dying right there. And even though she recovered, it was then that Elouan realized his brother was special, and that he would need to do whatever he could to protect him.

But as Maxence grew, so did the range of his abilities- and in turn the threat of losing him increased.

Elouan never took much time with school, learning everything quickly and getting homework done the day it was given, so he had plenty of time to keep watch over his brother. He taught him how to read, write, and speak every language he had been exposed to- which was only three at the time. They spent time together, talking about various interests and watching shows late at night. And though he kept a close watch on his brother, Elouan always managed to have a scrape or two reflected onto him. But he couldn’t blame Maxence. It was instinct, it wasn’t like he was consciously choosing to hurt his brother.

One day, when he was around seven years old and knew the difference between right and wrong, Maxence found himself in the wrong place at the wrong time. He was caught in some bad business, having seen terrible things take place. He promised the men he wouldn’t tell anyone what happened, but they were cruel and relentless. They pushed him through a third story window. He panicked and reflected on the first person he could think of: his brother.

The Aftermath

Elouan spent months in the hospital recovering. He was in and out of consciousness the first week, in excruciating pain for the next month. He was scarred horrifically, though most of it could be hidden by clothing. He spent a good bit of time in physical therapy, working to get feeling back in his arms and legs. And even after that, the memory of it lingered.

He never held a grudge against Maxence, though. He wouldn’t have done the same in his brother’s situation, but that didn’t matter. The young boy had been distraught enough. However, when his parents figured out that it was Maxence’s fault that Elouan had been so badly injured, the child was disowned. Elouan ran away with him, despite what had happened.

Disaster struck again only two years later, when Elouan and Maxence had well adjusted to their life on the run and on the streets. Gerald, a pigeon that served to warn them of threats approaching their hideout, had been hit by a car. In an act both mysterious and frightening, Maxence managed to resurrect it- at the expense of the lives of two nearby criminals.

Moments later, Maxence and Elouan were taken into the Marshwood home, so they could hone their powers and adjust to life as…well, freaks. Elouan is having trouble adjusting to a life of comfort and safety, knowing that at any moment it could be ripped away from him.

Though he might look sweet and naïve on the outside, you shouldn’t be fooled. Maxence has seen things that would drive grown men mad. He has touched the other side of the void and ripped a soul back- granted, it was a pigeon soul. He is hard to befriend, and even harder to tolerate for more than an hour at a time. He has an unhealthy obsession with horror movies, particularly of the slasher sub-genre, and keeps a stack of stolen DVDs with him. He knows a good bit of mythology and religion regarding death and what happens after a soul leaves a body.

He loves few things in the world, one of them being cheese in any form, one being slasher movies, and the other- well, his brother of course. He would say they have a strained relationship, but that’s more on his part. He can’t bear to see his brother hurting, not when he knows that he caused it. There used to be a defined place for his brother in his life, in his heart, but now…he’s not so sure. Ever since the accident, Max has drifted from his brother in the hopes that maybe he will heal. He just hopes that his brother doesn’t hate him after all this time.

Olivia listens to her heart and her actions are ruled by her desire to lend a hand rather than what she would get out of the situation by helping. When given the task of helping someone, she gives them a shoulder to lean on, an ear to talk to, and a voice to comfort them. Olivia is open-minded and tries to look for the good things in life rather than focusing on the bad. She is not one for giving up until she's given it her all and even then she's very hard-pressed to quit. But life is a double-edged sword. At times her caring nature leads her to trouble with people who do not want to be helped and there is also a possibility of someone exploiting her kind nature to manipulate her.

Backstory
Trigger Warning: Abuse and Neglect

When Olivia and Oliver were born, their parents took one look at Oliver's ears and tail and immediately rejected them. The twins stayed in the hospital for a few days before being taken to an orphanage. Though the caretakers took them in, the twins were treated like lepers by the adults. They were fed, bathed and clothed but it was with a cold and detached approach. They were never cuddled or given affection by any of the adults.

As they grew from babies into small children, their attempts to connect with the adults were meet with anger and after being shoved away too many times to count, they eventually stopped reaching out. The twins were kept separated from the other children and as such they grew to rely on each other for comfort. If another child tried to interact with either of the twins, one of the adults would scold the child and eventually the other children were conditioned to be scared of the twins and would avoid them like the plague, to the extent that they would leave the room if either of the twins walked in.

Afraid that the reputation of the orphanage would be ruined, the twins were locked in a small closet upstairs whenever a prospective family came to visit; after being forgotten in that closet one time and staying in there for hours, Olivia and Oliver developed a deep fear of small spaces. As they grew older, the adults stopped caring for their needs and in order to survive, the twins had to learn how to take care of themselves. It was a big trail and error in the kitchen and after many burns and cuts, they eventually learned how to make meals by observing the adults in the kitchen when they weren't looking.

Life at school was the same as their life at home and the twins did their best to keep their head down and just try to get through the day. Oliver was more prone to being a target for bullies than Olivia was due to his physical mutation and any attempts to fight back resulted in Oliver being punished due to the teachers taking the bullies side over his.

When the twins turned seventeen, they were promptly kicked out of the orphanage and were forced to live on the street. Oliver had to resort to stealing, which was made easier with his enhanced speed and agility and after living on the streets for a few months, they were found and picked up by Marshwood where they were taken to their new home.

Graham is a massive flirt. Before Aoife

Graham was always the charismatic one of the two. Born one minute before his fraternal twin Aoife, the two were inseparable from birth. Aoife was always the bold one - the firestarter. The troublemaker. And their parents basically put it on Graham's shoulders to make sure that Aoife didn't get into too much trouble.

She managed to drag him into a lot of trouble, but Graham's sheer charisma and charm managed to get them out of trouble. But, everyone saw him as a kind of arrogant charmer as a result. Which Graham didn't mind, the only people whose opinions mattered to him was his family as they all played out on the moor.

And then, they were playing out in the wild near their home, and an avalanche suddenly washed over them all.

Graham survived and was found wandering, shaking, covered in blood, and with this broken expression on his face almost a week later.

Aoife was dead.

After Aoife

Graham was... different after Aoife died. He was angrier, and he spent longer and longer times out on the moors no matter the weather. He lost all of his friends, just searching the moor for whatever. Maybe for his own death. His family sat him down and told him that he needed to shape up or he was going to be sent to the head doctor.

Now, Graham comes from a very traditional household and the idea that he may have had to go get psychological help as a totally straight man? Unheard of. Absolutely terrible. He immediately represed all of his grief over his twin sister and they never spoke of her again. Aoife became a banned word in the house, and Graham was left to suffer alone, completely isolated.

But, he managed to put on enough of a mask that he could become something that people thought he used to be. Except now he didn't have his twin as his confidante, he leaned more and more into the charismatic asshole playboy persona that he'd created for himself until Graham managed to convince even himself that he didn't need anybody. What Went Wrong

An absolutely brilliant, top of his class bioengineer and his wife - a genius of the social sciences. And when they mixed their DNA? They produced a prodigious researcher trying to bring people into space, a leading lawyer in social advocacy for minority classes through... And River.

So, what went wrong here?

River grew up in a fairly normal household despite being born into a family of geniuses, always the more artistically inclined of the three siblings. He read a lot as a kid. Like, a lot alot. And he began adapting the way that the people spoke in the stories. It was cute, at first. And then River really never grew out of that little habit. Oops.

But River's parents were good parents who didn't really care that their child came with... some interesting quirks. They were wholly supportive of his endeavor to become a famous musician, and continue to support him.

If you're wondering, by the way, yes, River does have the best "parents" situation out of all of my characters thank you for realizing this.

Fae is a very loquacious person and loves to trail into long talks about anything and everything, mainly that of clothing and gossip. Though off-handed comments can be made by her, dropping weird statements into a conversation about puppies.

Being the daughter of an elite businesswoman, it is no surprise Fae is a danger herself, though in a much different way. A bewitching and hypnotic song that has led more than one set of sailors to their death. She has adapted to humming or signing when she is isolated.

Being comfortable is not a word that is in Faes vocabulary of clothing. Being a fanatic about staying in fashion, her closet is constantly shifting but one thing is constant, the bright and fun hues and headscarves. She also is a lover of heels and corsets, commonly found in most of her outfits.

A bright and cheerful individual who is as wild as the wind as she dances through the streets when the world has gone quiet. A flash of glimmering teeth and a haunting song and how they plummet down to the serrated rocks below.

Of course, no one sees that side.

She sets up an effervescent exterior to let people feel welcome and safe around her, knowing how difficult it can be for them. There is a joy in being a dichotomy to what she should be. Tending to seek out more hostile individuals because there is something there that makes her heart race at the possible danger. Of meeting someone like her.

As someone who takes great pride in her work, she puts her all into everything from doing dishes to creating new pieces of fashion. Being the imaginative being she is, she tells a story or conveys emotion with every piece. If she gets you onto the topic of fashion or anything she is passionate about, you might want to clear your schedule for the rest of the night because she will speak for hours on end.

It can be fascinating to hear what she speaks about or it can be confusing as anything she says is normally what comes to mind. Faes mind is a giant turmoil, no second of peace as it tears and battles itself with how she should act and how she actually does. Never sure if what she feels is her own feeling or those she surrounds herself with. The façade has cracks in it – yelling, screaming, and crying that always ends with bloody lips, bruises, and therapy. Maybe this is why they all look at her in fear.

She doesnt want to hurt them. She doesnt want all her lovers to leave. If only they could see that, that wasnt actually her. If only they saw she was loyal, kind, and caring. Or was the violent side actually her? Though being the oblivious person she is, she often misreads signals. Never one to get backhanded compliments or most insults. If she does get it, you better watch out, calm seas easily turn violent.

After the multiple events that took place, Ceto was faced a decision. Give up Fae and go on to be successful or fail. So she gave up Fae, good ridance and casted her out to the Home. It hurt at first but soon she did her best to forget her mother, but the harmful words still stuck.

Were the others just as deadly? Did they also sing a haunting tune? Did they also fear what they could become?

Upon arrival, she carved her way into the hearts of fellow demigods, leading them to watery deaths or wishing that was the case. She promised never to look back and she was better than she was made to do but she is haunted by those she has killed -- massacred even. They still whisper to her and she fears going mad but she has to keep her image up. The friendly person everyone knows.

What will happen when the claws clamp down on her freedom and she is forced to go somewhere for being unstable? Fearful of her own powers and what she knows will be inevitable.
