When the demons began to flock to the academy, Yuko Ito started to appoint normal commoners to be their body guards, these commoners studied rigorously in the arts of weaponry and fighting right at the school until they were deemed worthy to be appointed to a student by the Ketsueki gado test in that test they prove their skills by fighting and killing nine demons that had been chained and kept in the school just for this purpose. After passing this test they became Shi no Gados. When a commoner arrives at the school they choose one purified weapon with holy powers to train and use throughout the harsh years of training. The students that required the guards and had the strange blood were called Ketsueki Kodomo. After forming the school and finding an equal number of children, odd things started to happen. After a few attacks from demons that had made their way past the Holy Barrier that surrounded the school erected by Ito and a group of well trained monks, they had slaughtered the guards that had been protecting the children(they were replaced later) after the poor Kodomo's saw their savior killed the ground beneath their feet lit up red. The red light disintegrated everything in its path, including the guard and the demon. However after they had done so they exhausted themselves and collapsed. Another child figured out that they could control very weak demons but it caused great strain on them. And when their strength gave out the demon ended up eating them. So these children could in fact assist their guards with minor abilities, many of which haven't been discovered yet.
