Traditional I do a little scribbling

Hey so thought I’d share some of my own doodles and scribbles, I may be setting aside a second thread in the future for posting RP specific artwork for a Macross setting RP I’m working on. I’m a self taught traditional artist who works chiefly in graphite (yknow them pencil things?) A lot of my inspiration comes from old pen and ink illustrations in the 4th Ed Battletech box set rulebook I had when I was younger as well as the older Warhammer art of Adrian Smith. The manga artist Kazuhisa Kondo and the guy who did the Hellsing mangas also played a big part in me developing my own..er... ‘style’? Anyways hope you enjoy trying to make out what I drew!

Some of it is of SW ocs, one’s a battletech oc, others are Warhammer daemons and a Chaos Space Marine, I’ve got a lot more to upload but here’s the first batch. Here’s a question for other creative types out there; how much does music play a part in your imaginative processes when coming up with stuff?

:U Omg I don't do graphite but I do a lil bit of charcoal sometimes and I love these sketches ;w; I love the dramatic effect the drawings get when they're only B/W, makes the highlights stand out all the more

I definitely listen to a bunch of different music while drawing/creating concepts for characters. Some are movie, video game, or anime OSTs, (Fire Emblem, Genshin Impact, Sky:COTL, Studio Ghibli movie OST), but honestly scrolling through my playlist now, it's super scattered with a bunch of random piano instrumentals and artists, really depends on the mood. What do you listen to while drawing ? ^__^

Why thank you! Great to be here! Yeah I love the ‘moodiness’ that black and white artwork can convey. It’s messy as hell though (my hands look like a coal miner’s after about an hour) and I’ve had some bad tears with cheap quality paper every now and then (I have a ‘heavy hand’ when I draw cuz I press a bit hard) but I still keep at it!

As for those music genres those are awesome (Ghibli’s always a good choice), I listen to Chopin’s ‘Raindrops’ on occasion, but a lot of my music choices diverge all over the place. Movie and Anime OST’s of course, but if I’m wanting epic I go to classical composers like Shostakovich or Prokofiev quite often. Then at the other end of my divergence I listen to Altaic throat singing groups like Huun Hur Tu, Altai Khy, and Huu. As for western bands; Rob Zombie, Marilyn Manson, Drowning Pool, Rammstein, Queen, Johnny Cash, Michael Jackson, Manowar, Blind Guardian, Iron Maiden, and Gwar - because who doesn’t like watching a six foot tall dude made all up to look like an evil alien warlord go on stage and sing about his desire to nuke the Earth?



I’d love to see some of your stuff if you’ve a link feel free to pm it to me, oh and I would recommend giving the OST to the Iria:Zeiram the Animation a listen too; it’s fun, it’s dramatic, it’s eerie, and it’s got great late 80s early 90s anime vibe through and through both the soundtrack and the 6 episodes

You can definitely see what I was talking about in the last image with those bad tears. It’s supposed to be a variant in my own style of the Zentradi Male Power Armor from the original Macross. The other stuff is a fun project, but part of the Macross RP setting I’m working on getting up and running.

For those interested it starts just a month after the earth got blasted in the original series and I’m planning it to be a side story which covers the two years between the first and second season as well as ‘background’ events that could have been occurring during the events of the second season, all ending about a year or two later after the second season of Macross - timeline wise.
