Gifs are not allowed in signatures (and avatars for that matter) as they a tend to be distracting.

There are times when the site doesn't catch the image type but normally they are disabled in that area similarly to how advanced BBCode is.

I've been using them as my signature since I joined xD so do many other members... Not sure if this needs to be updated somewhere.

We tried allowing it for a little while when we used the IPS forum software, but the xF software we've come back to doesn't allow it and generally changes animated sigs/avatars to static images.

Just throwing this in there, but I was reminded by someone else that some people have harsh epilepsy so it's probably for the best that they're not allowed.

Right. Even when we were allowing them, there were limits to what was acceptable, for precisely that reason.
