I saw the face of God in my dog today.
He was not the depiction of God I saw in paintings;
a white man
with a white beard
and white clothes
(maybe an extra red robe if you’re generous).
He was not the only God
He was one of them
He was a God
(a God, not a god).
He had human teeth,
pupiless human eyes,
and a grin that felt kind
yet devoid of any feeling.
He was still my friend though-
He was not human
He did not have pale skin
or a pale beard
He had brown fur
and a muzzle
and a black, wet nose.
But he spoke to me
He did not bark
He opened his mouth into an even wider grin
like he was baring his teeth
(only, he wasn’t).
I saw the face of God and he told me I am doomed.
