Fantasy From Beneath

From Beneath

In the year 253 AG, an event, that changed life as we know it, occurred. The ever-so harmonious and orderly Empire of Baria slowly fell to chaos and ruin as the presence of various unfamiliar hostile creatures emerged in random places. These creatures craved blood and flesh, hunting down any prey within their reach, be they innocent or not.

The Empire, forced to retaliate, launched a full scale hunt for these atrocious beings, to end this chaos and bloodshed. However, no matter how hard they tried, no matter how many soldiers were sent, these creatures continued to increase their numbers, and with it, the threat of mankind's extinction.

But why? Why can't they fend them off? Is it their superior strength? Is it their toughened bodies? Is it because they are far up in the food chain?

The world knows but one thing about them.

And that is that they come....

From beneath.

Before we begin the tale, first you must decide who will be the protagonist that you will be playing as. Each of them has a story different from the other, but they all will be affected and will be affecting the main plot - which has been teased above.

This quest log will be done in an RPG-ish style, where there will be stats, and skills belonging to the protagonist. You will be responsible for the development of the protagonist, as you will be deciding how their stats will grow, how their skills will be honed, etc.

Alright, now that's done, the choices for the protagonists are as below:

[1] Risha Luchart (Female)

[2] Kyle Cloudiere (Male)

[3] Ingrid Gault (Female)

[4] Maxim Direvli (Male)

Winning vote (2/3): [2] Ingrid Gault (Female)

14 Cancer, 253 AG

The great head of the Eurphon lordship has given you a task.

Apparently, the city of Kelna is having a hard time coping with the current situation due to some pesky bandits which strangely, they could not catch nor defeat. Their trade routes are being blocked and ambushed, and the city outskirts are under constant raids.

You are to head there, and give them aid.

Today is the day of your departure. You’ve packed up a very few things - your lance, a set of clothes, a small water canteen, a small sack of snacks, and a map of the world. You won’t need to bring much, after all, the crest of Eurphon that  you bear is the only thing you need when you’ve arrived there. It could grant you pretty much everything as long as you show its authenticity.

It is the middle of the day already, you should probably leave Larr soon.

[1] Check the map, and bring an extra item*.

[2] Go to the armory and browse the ware.

[3] Head to the stables for traveling aid.

[4] Pay a visit to your sister, Locke.

[5] Write-in.

*Please state what item will be brought.

Rolled a d2, got 2. Winning vote: [4] Pay a visit to your sister, Locke.

Ingrid’s House, City of Larr

14 Cancer, 253 AG

Before you leave Larr, you decide to pay a visit to your sister - Locke Gault, an elite working for the Eurphon lordship, just like you. However, she is better at stealth than you are, so the tasks given to you are far different from you.

You exit your house, and go the streets.

Streets, City of Larr

It’s not crowded, as usual. The current situation of the Empire pretty much struck every aspect of it. People are not feeling so safe, so they avoid going out of their home, moreover, their designated cities. Economic-wise, the Empire is starting to slowly crumble, with the markets lessening and the trade being exploited by both bandits and monsters.

You take a short walk, and a few turns, until you arrive at your sister’s house. You don’t even knock. You just push the door open, which is fortunately unlocked, and enter it. You don’t even declare your arrival.

Locke’s House, City of Larr

Your sister’s home is far less organized than yours. Some of her possession are scattered everywhere, as if she just throws them around. You are not surprised, Locke is quite the carefree person, after all. You head over to her room at the upper floor. Once, more, you don’t knock, and barge in without any sort of warning. You find her there, lying down on her bed, toying with some kind of strange metal contraption. She still wears that ninja-like clothing. Her hair is still trimmed short, and it’s still dyed purple.

“Locke.”

“Ah, sis.”, she answers back, still toying with whatever it is she was holding.

“I’ll be leaving Larr.”

“Oh. Where are you going?”

“Kelna. Got an order from the Eurphon head.”

“All your tasks come from him.”

“Yeah.”

“What are you gonna do there?”

“I’ll be helping them. Their having a hard time coping with what’s happening.”

“That’s quite vague for a task.”

“I know.”

“Well, good luck, sis.”

“Thanks. Watch my house for me.”

“Gotcha.”

“Farewell, Locke.”

“See you, sis.”

Your conversation ends that quickly. You leave her house, and go back to the streets. You head towards the west of the city, where the exit gate lies upon. As soon as you arrive there, you notice that the guards are not present, and that the gate is locked.

Looking around, you see the outpost, not far from the gate. A few noises could be faintly heard from there. You could go and see if the guards are there. You could also go to the city keep and ask the Eurphons for a gate key. It’s not like you’ll be denied access anyway. You have their noble head at your side, after all. Or, you could forcefully open the gate. It won’t be that difficult, especially since you’ve had your time as an Imperial Guard captain.

[1] Check the outpost.

[2] Go to the keep and as for a key..

[3] Force the gate open..

Winning vote (1/1): [2] Go to the keep and ask for a key.

City of Larr

14 Cancer, 253 AG

You decide to go to the keep and ask for a gate key. Talking with the guards is pretty much a waste of time, and you don’t want to exert much effort just to open this gate. Besides, you might be given something helpful in the keep. So, you turn back, and head back to the streets.Keep, City of LarrArriving at the keep did not take much time, it is at the center of Larr, after all. The gates of the keep are guarded by a number of city guards, and once you approached the keep, they blocked your path.“Halt!”, one of them said, presumably the leader of the troop. “Who are you and what is your business here?”“Ingrid Gault.”, you firmly reply. “Eurphon elite, assigned under Lord Garte.” You even presented them the Eurphon crest given to you. They immediately opened the gate upon hearing the name of Lord Garte, and gave way for your entry. “Proceed.”, the leader said. You place the crest back in your pocket, and walk towards the opened doors of the keep. As usual, nobles like to keep fancy things for themselves, so the sight of such an extravagant place is not that surprising. A chandelier in the hall, and a number of silver statues depicting the former Eurphon heads in their glory. A number of servants walk hurriedly into a different chamber, carrying some prepared delicacies. They must be having some kind of party. That’s not what you’re here for, though, so you head for the stairs. At the second floor of the keep was a bit less flashy than the hall. There were various carvings on the stone pillars, but other than that, it was pretty simple. A plain carpet was laid upon the floor, leading to a large chamber at the left corner. You enter the said chamber, only to be welcomed by a middle-aged man.“Well, if it isn’t Lord Garte’s favorite elite.”, he said joyfully. “What are you doing here, Ingrid?”

“I need a key to the southern city gate, Ferhat.”, you replied, and sat on a nearby wooden stool.“Let me see.”, he says as he rushes to a large cabinet and rummage through its messy contents. Metallic jiggling noises echo through the chamber. “Aha!”, he turns towards you. “A key to the southern Larr gate.” He presents to you a gilded bronze key. He hands it over to you without a question.“Is this really the key?”

“Yes.”

“Then why is it gi-”

“It’s my custom key. I like to have my metals gilded for good presentation.”

“Are you not going to ask why I need this?”, you began to inch away to the chamber’s exit.

“Nah,”, he said. “It’s just another task from Lord Garte. I overheard their discussions from upstairs.” He points to the ceiling.

“I see.”, you stop just at the exit, and give a single wave at him. “Well then, Ferhat. I shall take my leave.”

“Best of  luck in Kelna.”, he reclines to his seemingly worn down chair.

You’ve gotten the key to the southern gate, so you left the keep immediately. You did not want to be delayed any further. If the town of Kelna really needs your aid, then you must be there as soon as you can. You hurry to the gate, and now there were the guards who were missing earlier. You sigh. These lazy bastards really get on your nerves.

“Ah.”, one of them said. “It’s Ingrid. She’s on another errand from the higher ups.”

“Yeah, I heard.”, another one spoke.

“Open the gates, you fools.”, the largest amongst the three slightly tapped their heads.

The gates were opened, and you left Larr silently. As soon as you was outside the borders of Larr, the guards closed the gate. It was normal procedure, after all. Still, you are somewhat irritated. You could’ve left earlier if those guards were not lazing off somewhere. You decide to press more important matters.

To reach Kelna, you have to pass through Silverbell Grove - a seemingly peaceful forest. That might have changed, however, due to what is occurring upon the Empire’s lands. You entered the forest with caution. It was calm, the breeze was  gently brushing the grass and the leaves, which swayed under its mercy. The fragrance of the flowers created a soothing scent which flowed throughout the forest. You walked in a relaxed manner in accordance with this.

However, something caught your attention. Some rustling could be heard at the east, not far from your location. If it is a problem, then you should deal with it now, while you still have the energy to do so.

[1] Check it out.

[2] Ignore it and continue walking..
