  1. There is no post size requirement, but as always, bigger posts means more detail!
  2. Absolutely NO “bunnying”, or “Ghost-owning” or however you say “taking control of another player’s character.” It’s super uncool.
  3. You can, however, work with the other person through discord or DMs and (after discussing it with GM or Co-GM) post a collaborative post for a scene wherein it is only the two characters.
  4. Rule 2 does not apply to GM and Co-GM. If you do not respond to anything (messages, discord, DMs) for a week (or less if it is determined necessary), we will take control of your character. If you are going on vacation and can’t use the internet for a bit, let us know. We will probably take control of your character, but we’ll take very good care of them, promise <3
  5. If you are consistently intentionally causing problems in the discord, we will kick you from the RP and the group with little to no warning.
  6. If you have an idea for something that might make waves or even cause a whole arc (ex. Something big with a character’s backstory, a character losing a limb, etc) let's discuss it!
By submitting a CS, you are AGREEING TO THESE RULES.

CHARACTER RULES
  1. NO NEKOS.
    NO EXCEPTIONS
  2. Your OC cannot be a neko in any interpretation, seriously guys. Why do I have to add this.
  3. You want a tragic backstory, GO FOR IT, but don’t make it intersect with another player’s backstory unless you talk with them, and us, first.
  4. No characters or players under the age of 18.
  5. Use the format for CS provided (you can make moderations to it as you see fit).
  6. See the game rules before posting. By posting, you agree to these rules.
  7. Your CS may be rejected for any reason the GM and Co-GM deem reasonable. We don’t have to let you modify it if we do not want to.
  8. This is a high-interaction RP. Make your character interactable. If it is a character that will spend all day in the corner of their room, they will not see much interaction and will probably barely be active in the roleplay. If this is how we read your CS, we will ask you to change it.

Long story short, if you have a question, DM me!

And for geographical information, here is the map to be used. Our story begins in Southampton, England where the voyage to the new world begins. This RP is set in the 1600s, so feel free to have characters originate from places like England, France, Spain, etc.

Eli Mason

1675489619877.png

APPEARANCE
Age: 31
Gender: Male
Height: 5'-10" (177.8 cm)
Weight: 190lbs (86.2 kg)
Build: Strong
Physical peculiarities: None of note

PERSONALITY
Eli Mason was always the pragmatic head of his family. He prefers rationality, logic, and reason, or so he thinks of himself. In reality, Eli is a God-fearing man, often shunning things he finds sinful or blasphemous. On the surface, Eli is straightforward, curt, and oftentimes judgmental. Eli has the capacity to be kind to those who have proven their faith and their worth, something Eli puts in high praise. He may come off as brusque to most at first glance. ultimately all Eli wishes is to help his family thrive and stray away from danger.

SKILLS
Eli had always been a bit of a jack of all trades. Growing up on his father's farm, Eli has great experience in tilling fields and handling livestock. He's spent most of his life out in the harsh sun to cultivate crops, but also learned to hunt, trap, and a plethora of other important tasks, probably too many to count - enough so that he constantly berates others for not knowing how to do their jobs.

POSSESSIONS
Being hired for the voyage as a farmer for Prosperity, most of what Eli will bring are tools. Other than this, he has nothing more than the clothes on his back, his bible, and his musket. Everything else he could possibly need are things he could make once in Ryeland.

BACKSTORY
Eli Mason grew up in the countryside of southern England near Exeter. His parents, Joseph and Martha Mason, were strict, religious and adamant on their eldest son to take up the farm once they were no longer capable. For Eli, no other option existed. The farmland encompassed his entire world. Nothing else ever mattered. Life seemed bleak to the eldest Mason son, who found himself struggling to enjoy his life farming from dawn till dusk. For his entire adolescent life, Eli wished to explore the world, specifically all the fantastical places he'd heard about when visiting Exeter every few months. Scotland, France, Spain... So many sights to see. But Eli's life was stuck, attached to a humble plot of land with feeble earnings.

Upon reaching the age of 20, Eli married his wife Maria Smith. The marriage happened quickly after the two had met, and no one doubted the love shared between the two. After his parent's health deteriorated, Eli found himself running his family's farm alongside his wife without their help, something which stressed and bothered Eli endlessly. When children eventually came along, the fears only grew for the aging farmer, who only wished to see the world someday. Of course, Eli knew better. He was doomed to stay in the same couple of kilometers for his entire life, ever leaving the bland and stale countryside.

That was, until Eli visited Exeter to resupply and ran into an offer he couldn't shake from his mind. At first, Eli convinced himself he could not leave on a journey to cross the great sea and start a new life. He returned home, hating the leaking roof, the hot fields, the complacency he felt. Finally, as a sign from God almighty, the following month's crops had failed miserably. Without food, without income, and without an option, Eli found himself applying and eventually joining the voyage to Ryeland, bringing along his wife Maria and his three children. He rides to Southampton in a carriage using the last of his funds, bringing him to the fleet set on bringing his family to a brave new world.

BASICS
Name: Edmund Thomas Blythe
Nickname(s): Ed, Eddy, Doc

APPEARANCE
Description: Edmund is a young, well built man whose skin has seen its fair share of sunshine. The tan seems to bring out his green eyes nicely, and blends well with his long, wild brunette hair. His hands are covered with callouses and to any outsider, it's clear he's extremely hard working. Eddy favors light shirts (especially when his body gets sunburnt) and patched cotton pants. Despite his poorly dress, he was quite popular with the ladies in his hometown, though none could get close enough for a relationship due to not only Edmund's extreme tunnel vision for his studies, but because his father, Thomas Blythe, was a pastor. The silver cross necklace Eddy wears was a reminder to all those who even dreamed of having some sort of relation to the man.
Age: 25 y/o
Gender: Male (He/Him)
Height: 5'10"
Weight: 158 lbs.
Build: Muscled, toned
Physical peculiarities: His left foot looks mangled on first appearance, but is in fact a birth defect. It causes Edmund to limp while walking.

Personality
Edmund comes off as a down to earth, hard working guy, which makes him the least likely to be a witch... right? Eddy has a way of appearing honest and extremely open, but is in fact a closed book. He's secretive about his reason for travel and, more importantly, his hobbies. To anyone first meeting him, most probably wouldn't suspect much under his good looks, but if one were to really know him, they wouldn't even recognize the person they'd first greeted. He hides his practice behind his extensive knowledge of medicine, though some might claim the full moon had gotten to his head while watching him operate. He can be twitchy, nervous, and extremely defensive when it seems there's no good reason to. Of course, it might just be the hard work of an apprentice physician making him sleep deprived...

Skills
Because Edmund worked and studied as an apprentice physician, he has extensive medical knowledge. Though he knows a lot and has the skills that are required for the field, he tends to get some extra help by way of his other practice. He may not be incredibly confident in his doctoring abilities, but get him around herbs and spiritual guidance and he becomes sure of himself. Eddy is still finding ways to incorporate witchcraft into the medical field, but there's still a long way to go. Though he believes, as far as being a doctor goes, his skills could be put to much more use in the fields. His family lived on a farm for years (As his father put it, it's good to live simply, lest one forget the greatness God had given them) so he learned how to take care of crops and the like. Eddy also went to church every Sunday and received many biblical lessons at home. He believes God made witchcraft for mankind to use, unlike most of humanity.

Possessions
Water
Food scraps
A hollowed wooden book filled with items for witchcraft, of which he keeps safely tucked in his bag
Silver cross necklace

Backstory
Edmund was born on March 14th, 1612 in Bristol, England. His parents, Thomas and Martha Blythe, lived on a farm not far from town. Eddy grew up learning all there was to know about farm life and the bible. His father is a pastor, after all- what else was there to learn about? Edmund's childhood days were mostly filled with work, with little time for playing with other children his age. It wasn't until he turned 15 that he decided to try his luck in the medical field. Although his family was well off, he knew it wouldn't hurt to earn more money to help them out. When he expressed interest to become an apprentice physician, his parents were thrilled. "It was either that or become a pastor like your old man!" Thomas would tell him.

Edmund worked hard at university, and quickly became top of his class while juggling his home chores. He received an apprenticeship not long after, where he became aware of what was called witchcraft. The physician he served under wasn't exactly the stand up man everyone thought him to be, and he taught Eddy all he knew about the practice. Eddy's understanding of it all was that witches took from the earth. Why was it a crime to use what God had given them? He wasn't taking it for granted, as his father would remind him not to do, but using it.

Naively, Edmund eventually told his father about the great work he'd been doing with these practices. He was proud to tell Thomas that he'd not ignored God. But it wasn't like that. Thomas, of course, grew angry. Worse than Edmund or his mother had ever seen him. He swore that if Eddy didn't leave Bristol by that night, he'd have him hanged for witchcraft the next day. So, without so much as a goodbye to his parents, Eddy escaped to Southampten, where he learned of the voyage to Ryeland. How could he pass up the opportunity to start a new life?

JUDITH NOWAK
"...traverse with care by words and deeds, for over yonder rests the raven-haired melancholic. We've tread her steady grace, afeared of her silent tempest..."

4NcvwI9.jpeg

APPEARANCE
Age: 26
Gender: Female
Height: 5 ft. 7 in. (170 cm)
Weight: 145 lbs (65 kg)
Build: Slender, ectomorphic.
Physical peculiarities: Possesses a peculiar scar on the back of her thigh, speculated to be from something akin to a saber cut.

PERSONALITY
A reserved, but amiable personnel of interest, with a persistent aura of mystery that emanates from her soft-spoken language. Despite her ordinary appearance, Judith possesses a certain poise for the higher arts, particularly in the way she speaks and acts. While far from a snob, Judith reflects the conduct of a proper lady with a particular talent for placating the crowd with her gentle voice, and thorough with her well-woven words. At times, she can be stubborn to a fault, in an effort to preserve her personal principles and perhaps pride. Nevertheless, one can catch her melancholic side in the dead of night, filled with silent expressions and unspoken regrets.

SKILLS
Judith possesses the felicity for expression and comprehension within literary pursuits and needs. Accompanied by her sultry voice, the lady could be described as the perfect clerk. Her better talents, however, are well-accrued in the mending of clothes and the diplomatic arrangements. Due to her softer outward-nature, she could swiftly broker words between the most reluctant of rivals.

POSSESSIONS
Abandoning her complicated past, the woman brought with her nothing but a chest of meager jewelry as emergency funds, her clothes and a heart riddled with guilt.

BACKSTORY
Anya z domu Waza, a distant member of the powerful House of Vasa in Poland, was stripped of her freedom the moment she was born. Raised as a lady in Krakow, she was expected to become nothing more than a bartering chip upon the tumultuous table of politics in the Old World. Among her siblings, she was considered beautiful and poised for her soft nature and cleverly docile aptitude for politics. Yet, she was never one with an ambitious gaze upon the daggered crown.

Despite this, she eventually fell in love with a humble soldier from Gdansk, of whom would exchange letters with her from when the sun could meet the horizon unto the beckoning of the week's end. Insanely captured by the notions of love, against the face of wrathful reckoning and perhaps envy, Anya believed in a future where she did not need to heed the cruel destiny that awaits her. A free soul, chained by the shackles of a flawed design. Despite the longing of the heart, it was not meant to be. When news reached Warsaw that she was to be married off to a nobleman to secure the good graces of the Habsburg, so too did their penned letters came to light. Anya attempted to elope with her lover, only for the regressive attempts of her envious siblings to give way to a most sinister plot that ended with the death of her lover. Heartbroken when news of his trial came to her as a form of a last letter that never should have arrived, Anya stormed her way out of her family's estate and made it ten feet before the guards restrained and dragged the broken girl back to her room.

Months later, right before her wedding, she managed to fulfill her elaborate plan to escape that was in the working since the death of her beloved soldier from Gdansk. A year would come to pass, as she navigated the treacherous terrains of a war-torn Europe with her once-guardians hot on her heels, barely passing by without succumbing to the madness that consumed the populace. Everywhere she went, the muddy faces of pikemen and knights reminded her of the young soldier of Gdansk. She was troubled, as her journey west became a crucible of the heart, for she still blamed herself for the death of her lover. Yet, she pressed on, and found herself picking up a few trades along the way before ending up in England. There, she found a chance at the edge of the Old World. A chance at a new life, unburdened by the name that she bears. Having seen much death and losses since her departure from Krakow, she would muster up the last fiber of her rugged being to gamble with the rough seas in a bid for salvation. No longer as Anya Vasa, but as Judith Nowak.

Lillian Korlov (Lily)
Image from Artbreeder.jpg
Appearance
Age: 24
Height: 5'3 (63 inches)
Weight: 110 lbs (49.8 kg)
Build: Ectomorphic

Personality
The last seventeen years or so have led Lillian to be a very self-assured individual. She has no problems standing up for herself and is the farthest thing from soft-spoken. Lily holds herself with confidence she is pretty sure she faked for the majority of her life and is considered a bit intense at times. She is a master at redirecting conversations away from herself and tries her best to not stay in one place too long. Despite the cold front she puts up, Lily is secretly a soft and caring girl. She is a hopeless romantic and wants nothing more than to figure out where she belongs in life. Should she choose to find people whom she believes are trustworthy, Lily is loyal and will always stand by their side.

Skills
Lillian has picked up quite a few skills in her nomadic lifestyle. She is considered a skilled seamstress by some while being good at cooking or baking to others. Should she come across something she does not know how to do, Lily is a fast learner and could easily pick it up in a couple of hours.

Possessions
She doesn't have much, just the clothes on her back, a necklace with her family crest, and some money she has managed to save up from odd jobs.

Backstory
Lillian's life began one cold October night when she was discovered on the side of the road. No one was sure what to make of the young child, who couldn't have been older than seven years old. Still, it didn't stop them from leaving her on the doorstep of an orphanage in Dunmore East, Ireland. Lillian struggled for years with her identity. She would often daydream about the family she had, always wondering why they had left her behind and where they could be now. Doctors had told the orphanage it was unlikely the young girl would ever regain her memories, though Lily had tried to hold onto the hope that they were wrong somehow.

Growing up in such an environment was not for the weak- that's what Lillian had learned very quickly. For the first few weeks, she endured the bullying of the other kids, trying her best to ignore the comments like "how hard did you hit your head to forget your whole life?" and so on. Lily adapted, she learned to stand her ground and how to outsmart her bullies. Despite everything, she held onto her dreams and was determined to figure out where she belonged.

Once she turned eighteen, Lily said goodbye to the only home she had. She wasn't sad to leave that life behind though. With nothing but the clothes on her back, her family pendant, and some food, Lily began her journey, following the limited clues her necklace gave her. She traveled all over Ireland, picking up odd jobs here and there for extra cash and never staying in one place for long. Some joked she must have been running from something. Lily had brushed the assumptions aside, perhaps she was running, though she hoped it was towards someone rather than away.

Eventually, Lillian's travels led her far from her home to England. She wasn't sure where she was going-though when had she ever known? Lillian fell back into her nomadic lifestyle, always staying just long enough to make money and never making ties with the people she met. It was a lonely life, but one she preferred over trusting people. She adopted the surname Korlov after some time, hoping the illusion of having a family name would make her feel more complete. Lillian was out working when she caught wind of a ship traveling to Ryeland. She hadn't planned on going at first, but one of the travelers' words had caught her attention.

Lillian decided to join the journey, perhaps that's where she would find her family too.

Age: 19
Birthday: September 9th (whatever year makes her 19 now lmao)
Gender: Cis Female (she/her)
Height: 4’11
Weight: 120lbs
Build: Athletic, lean
Hair: Long, red hair loosely braided and often kept up in a bun.
Eye Color: Grayish Blue
Physical peculiarities:
  • Catherine has a few scars across her torso and a stick and poke tattoo on her thigh, both of which from her pirate days.

PERSONALITY
Catherine is a fiery person who learned quickly that she’d have to make her own way in the world. It takes a special kind of person to throw themselves into a life of piracy, especially from one of comfort and stability, but Catherine did exactly that. She fit in well among crews of mostly poor men and was able to make her own way with them. Since escaping hanging by British authorities in Wales, she’s been struggling to adjust back to the feminine expectations of a young woman placed upon her by "proper" society.

SKILLS
Catherine is proficient in hunting and surviving on very little. She has informal training with swords, knives, and rifles. Beyond that, she’s good at projecting a sense of self beyond what her small frame would imply.

POSSESSIONS
  • A journal that she’s kept since just before she left for piracy at 14.
  • An engraved golden ring that she inherited from her first captain.
  • Her favorite knife.
  • A tattered Lutheran bible. She thinks it's nice to try.

BACKSTORY

_ (4).jpeg
Basics
Name: ???
Nickname(s): Jane Doe, The Plague Doctor

Appearance
Description: The most anyone can recall, Jane has always hidden behind her mask, clothed completely in black. Her most notable clothing item is her hooded cape. Not a single strand of hair has ever fallen from beneath, giving hardly any clue as to who she really is- or was. She favors long black gloves, covering her arms up to the sleeves of her ankle length dress. The only thing that peaks out from under it are her pointed, black boots.
Age: ???
Gender: Female (She/ Her)
Height: Approximately 5'4". Her shoes make her about an inch taller.
Weight: Approximately 124 lbs.
Build: Petite
Physical peculiarities: N/A

Personality
Jane is an incredibly quiet person, often having to get many gentle pushes from Edmund until she can speak. She typically only nods or shakes her head in response to questions, unless it's something she prefers not to reveal- Which is nearly everything. Some have seen a more curious side to her... a gentle side. When out in nature, Jane seems particularly interested in flora. Becoming almost childlike, small giggles can be heard from under her mask as she picks the ones that most appeal to her- usually stuffing them in her pockets or in the depths of her hood. She has never acted aggressive towards others, but keeps to either herself or Edmund for the most part. If one were to make her curious, she'd very likely study them with intense interest.

Skills
Jane exudes many of the same skills as Edmund. She has less medical knowledge than he, but acts as his assistant during check ups or procedures. She seems incredibly knowledgeable on flora- Most believe her to have been a flower shop owner back in London. Jane also enjoys cooking from time to time, and is skilled in sewing and mending clothes. Although incredibly quiet, she seems to be most comfortable when helping others.

Possessions
A book full of pressed flowers
A small sewing kit
A knife
Unknown cream- Almost waxy looking

Backstory

Nobody really knows who Jane is, or where she came from. The most Edmund seems to recall, he met her during his apprenticeship. It was odd to see a woman practicing medicine, but when he'd tried to get information out of her she simply ignored him. They'd studied under the same doctor for months and did get closer as days went by. She'd open up to him from time to time- She was born in Glasgow, England, and traveled to Bristol to learn medicine in secret from her village, and she never took her mask off in order to preserve her secret, lest someone from her town come to Bristol. She used to have a cat named Dina as well, and would talk about her constantly. When their teacher chose Eddie to become a full time apprentice, Jane left. He hadn't seen her since.

This is all anyone knows of Jane, and the story Edmund always tells. Both were surprised when they saw each other again on the ship, and instantly Jane became attached at his hip. Most won't see her without Edmund nearby, although Edmund seems to be able to go freely without her. Perhaps Jane will be able to connect with others?

NAME: Tiago Montes
Nickname: None currently, but quietly waiting with bated breaths to receive one.

APPEARANCE
Age: 28
Gender: Trans Male
Height: 5’7”
Weight: 150 Lbs
Build: Wiry but strong. Tiago is a relatively small man, but tends to take up a lot of space in his personality and the way he holds himself.

PERSONALITY
As the human embodiment of sweeping dirt under a rug, Tiago moves like music and speaks like every one of his words may one day be etched in stone. He lives by an idealistic moral code and holds himself to impossible standards, as though he fancies himself a knight in shining armor. Montes is naïve and belligerent in his loyalty, and always to a fault; habitually made dangerous in tandem with his idealism. A collector of stories and often single-mindedly ambitious, he has a tendency to forgo thinking ahead for what might look the shiniest in the moment. Tiago reads a lot, but still isn't very smart; he knows a lot about life, and seems to have all the makings of an intelligent young man, but something isn’t quite clicking; he’s all brawn and little brain.
Though he never got to be a boy, he’s determined to be a great man, and treats others like they’re all destined for greatness as well; creating a sort of charismatic aura about him, despite his innate inability to connect with others on any level below the surface. It's all 2D - flat like the pages of a book. A soft spot for disenfranchised youth but isn’t conscious enough to see that that’s what he still is. Vain and lacking in self-awareness, but more emotionally intelligent than he’d ever let on. Desperately self-sacrificial in the dark; constantly vying for a cause to die for so that he can become his own legend without having to make the journey home to face his family. Slowly becoming more arrogant and pretentious as he grows into himself.

SKILLS
-Having grown up within the confines of a kitchen, Tiago is an excellent cook and a better baker, but isn’t one to publicize these skills.
-Natural polyglot, to his family’s (and namely, his mother’s) supreme jealousy.
-A life-long interest in sailing has created in him a knowledgeable sailor and fisherman, but his limited experience has not made for a wise one.
-Not necessarily a quick learner but a staunch one with the memory of a steel trap. What he lacks in knowledge, he finds he can often make up for in pure grit and determination; why would the wilds of North America be any different?

POSSESSIONS
Having picked up work in Southampton while he prepared for his journey, Tiago has spent time carefully cultivating the contents of his pack to mimic the great conquistadors and English explorers. A small canvas tent, a notebook to chart maps and record his findings, a compass, a box of matches, a fishing net, a hunting knife that he doesn’t know how to use, an English musket and a few other odds and ends from his travels so far.

BACKSTORY
The legend of Santiago Carrillo is a young one. The story of a young man’s reluctant gallantry that his grandson would come to spin in a gold-threaded epic of humble heroism for decades to come. It was nothing more than a family anecdote, often served with a mirthful shrug and a nod to the fates; told at every-other family gathering. The story that they all knew, but resigned to smile along to each and every time that one of their elders conjured the words, like an apparition summoned by too much wine. Each and every time, a young Tiago would plant himself front and center, drinking the words in; committing each slight variation to heart; filling in the details with wild assumptions and variations of his own. Creating an idol of a man who still walked to Earth. Creating a shadow to live under; an obligation to fill shoes that no one had ever even offered him.

It was true that Tiago would never be offered his patriarch’s legacy, but he had been offered mother’s. The legacy of a woman of ferocious resilience who crossed an ocean for the love of her life, gave birth to his child during a hurricane near the end of the journey, and began making a name for herself the very first day she set foot onto Spanish soil. A lifetime cycle of struggle and change, struggle and change that she’d polish into the livelihood of three generations, the cultivation of a community, and the rearing of a child that would one day forsake the life and even the name she’d given them, but move mountains all the same.

While he’d have her business - the small bakery by the docks his father worked - shoved down his throat from the time he could walk, Tiago would never fully hear her epic. She’d still been too busy living it, and their family had been content to let it slip through the cracks.

He’d never been encouraged to leave their marina; to take a job as a deckhand on one of the colossal wooden vessels that sailed westward, seeking out new stories aboard a floating village like his cousins, his father, his uncles, and grandfather before them. He’d be kneading dough with the women when they filled their packs and set out aboard merchant ships, hearts set on sewing their own great tales to perform at their return. The family’s youngest would reach early adulthood living a life that was not his own; in a fashion he found so cliche that it burnt him from the inside out.

When he left, there had been no fights - no terse words behind closed doors or ultimatums or even a grand announcement. Their child was simply no longer a child. He’d woken up one morning, just like every other, to a life of placation so vastly different from the reality he saw for himself, that he simply could not continue. He had to burn this life, and create a new one; at least, for now.

So he did what he’d convinced himself that his grandfather would do. He cut his hair and walked out the door of his mother’s house with nothing more than the clothes on his back; setting out to create his own legend in one of the farthest reaches he knew; in the place becoming known for exporting adventurers: stupidass England.
