Far From Any Road

Ashgrove, New Mexico: A small town with big secrets and no questions. The place is a haven for anyone on the run, no matter the reason, but the law is that of an eye for an eye.

The Town Elders have had their families rooted in the town for centuries now and are descended from indigenous peoples, foreign settlers, or something strange. The other townspeople don't usually stick around for quite as long, and often just use the town as a place to hide.

However, murder has struck the otherwise peaceful community, and the citizens are at a loss for leads and suspects. The Elders have begrudgingly allowed a few detectives and police officers to enter the town and view the crime scene. As the evidence grows and fingers are pointed, Ashgrove begins to fall apart, and this murder might not be the last.

Or the first.

There is a shallow and rocky
river to the east of the town that runs from north to south. There are mountains that surround the west and north sides of the town. There are some old ruins about half a mile south of the town. The road is gravel and is not maintained outside of the town, and the only way to get in is by helicopter, off-road vehicle, or on foot.

  • The normal site rules apply.
  • You can have a supernatural character (werewolves, vampires, chupacabras, some other obscure thing, ghosts even) but I do ask you to limit any psychic abilities. That would make solving the crime far too easy!
  • If you think you can be a canon/preexisting character, go right ahead, but original characters are always appreciated.
  • Faceclaims can be whatever.
  • You can be an Elder, a Citizen, or an Investigator. Whether they are human or not is up to you. Feel free to create an interesting backstory for them.
  • You can have multiple characters, but only one Elder or Investigator character. You can have as many Citizens as you think you can handle.

One or more of the player characters might be guilty of the crime. After you are accepted, you will be messaged as to if you are the murderer or not. If you agree to be the guilty one, we will work on some form of alibi, and then it will be up to the other characters to sniff you out. Please do not instantly tell all of the other players if you are truly guilty or not. You can lie and say you are innocent, or feign being guilty to protect whoever was. You can confess to a friend or confess when under pressure. Remember that the town works under an eye for an eye, and keep your character's knowledge, well, in character.

Keep in mind that nobody might agree to being the murderer, so some other random character might be guilty. The most useful thing will be to keep track of evidence.

Evidence will pop up in the thread itself, and certain bits of information might be sent to specific characters.

To show you've read the rules and all that jazz, put "I'm not guilty!" somewhere in your application.
