Personality:


Mercer is often seen as very distant. He talks little to those around him on his missions, seeking to merely exorcise the demon and be on his way. He has a strong drive to save others from the forces of hell and will face any challenge to do so. He is very caring towards others and empathizes greatly for the common people. Mercer has no political goal unlike so many exorcists and church officials who seek only to benefit themselves. His hatred towards demons is what guides Mercer forward against the forces of Hell. What little friends Mercer does make along the way, he protects fiercely. Mercer is a persistent cuss and will not give up once his mind is set. Ironically he tends to have a sarcastic and slightly cynical sense of humor. While not very religious, he has everything that an efficient exorcist needs, hatred for demons and the ability to kill.


History:


Mercer was born to a small noble family in the far western portion of the Holy Rolan Empire. His first few years of life were or luxury, but this came to an abrupt end when a demon possessed his father. The demon butchered Mercer's family and then released wraiths to slaughter the villagers. Mercer hid with only a copy of the scripture to protect him. An exorcist who was staying at the local church saw the catastrophe and took action. He fought his way through the wraiths and into the manor where he fought the possessed lord. The exorcist was eventually able to exorcise the demon at the cost of the lords life. While preforming follow up rituals, the exorcist stumbled across the 7 year old Mercer. Seeing his copy of the Scripture, the exorcist immediately offered the child a place with him at the church. The exorcists actions amazed and inspired Mercer while he grew a deep hatred toward demon kind. He soon wished to become an exorcist like his hero and savior.


Mercer the endured intense physical and spiritual training required to become and exorcist. He had a drive like few had ever seen. When news came that the man who saved him, his hero, was killed by a demon he only pushed harder. He eventually snuck away from the citadel and avenged his heroes death, exorcising his first demon. It wasn't long at all before Mercer became one of the best exorcists in the order. He is close to the record for the most demons exercised ever, a feat which is held by the founder and patron saint of the exorcists, Lucius III. His relentlessness when hunting demons has gained him the nickname "The Saint of Slaughter."


The past few months Mercer has been traveling to the North with the intent to discover the source of the demon's. If possible he wishes to travel into the scarred wastes, a dangerous area that is still ravaged from the demon invasion a millennium before. Currently he is working to exorcise a church in the small town of Batewood near the Holy Roland Empire's northern border.

Weapons, Items, and Abilities: While Oakley's work is heavily based on alchemical science and experimentation, he makes free use of the latest style of an "alchemic sword", an improved version of an artifact that was excavated from the ruins that combines the art of swordplay and alchemy. His hobby is to create various such swords. Seeing as he works a fair amount and his father was a doctor, Oakley is more than able in the field of Alchemy and he often carries related items in his satchel; such as various concoctions, recipes, ingredients and other items that allows him to set up temporary makeshift workshops at anytime. As well as being an avid alchemist, Oakley is quite skilled with a sword and has good leadership abilities.


Personality: Oakley is a serious and "down-to-earth" person, but is also very kind. He doesn't open up much about the mysterious death of his father, and he seems to avoid talking about his past in general. He is also somewhat of a perfectionist, sometimes being seen organizing things often and cleaning the workshop from top to bottom. Many people he knows see him as the "brother-in-arms" kind of guy and, if ever he has found himself on a quest, he works quite well as one unit of a grander party no matter how grand or intimate it is.


Oakley will often remain calm and collected but is not the bravest of all people and has been known to lose his temper. When angered or aggressed, he will oftentimes become agitated, unforgiving and sometimes seek revenge. He lost his carefree attitude after his father passed away and he doesn't care much for when others mess around. Despite all this, he remains fairly optimistic and soothes himself by indulging in the work that he loves. Oakley has always been quite supportive and so is able to provide such from the reserves during an encounter.


History: Oakley is very protective of the intellectual property that is his own past, however the townspeople do know a bit. Everyone is aware that he is the son of the beloved doctor, Sir Newton Belduke, who mentored him in the field of Alchemy and medicament. His mother died at childbirth and he was raised by his father alone. Many of his childhood hobbies involved chemical, biological and alchemical experimentation, and he is forever learning new aspects of the field as well as making certain advancements. His father suffered a mysterious passing a mere few moths ago, an affair which remains unsolved. As of current, he is following in his father's footsteps and has spent many years training in the field of alchemical endeavours and studies. However, he has stated that he does not wish to replace his father as the town doctor.


Likes/Dislikes: Oakley likes a good dinner, especially a roast feast. He also likes to observe nature and to entertain himself by studying the wildlife. Oakley likes the colour red but despises the sight of blood. He absolutely loves his work in alchemy and enjoys devising new recipes and experiments and making new advancements in the field. However, Oakley does not enjoy the pressure of dependency that is paced on him by the townspeople, seeing as he is his father's son. On the other hand, he also dislikes being alone and doing things for no reason.

He is 6'2 ft. tall and has a well build body. When he is not in combat he usually wears a torn brown coat over him, covering the upper half of his armor and has a hood covering his helmet.

Weapons, Items, and Abilities: Geralt, doesn't have any special abilites naturaly, which means he has no magic spells at his disposal, but his two weapons and armor he wears are special. His spear Mercy is made out of normal steel which he uses to kill Humans, Elves or Dwarfs. The spear is completely made out steel with it's blade looking similiar to a arrow.


His sword Despair which he uses against demons and creatures alike, is forged from a special material, similiar to silver in some traits, such as harming demons or witches and it's almost umbreakable. The blade is infused with holy water, doubling the damage to demons and undead creatures. The sword has a greyish colour, almost black.


Over the years of training and fighting, his body quickly adapted to his day to day job of killing demons and creatures alike. He posseses great strength and endurance, being able to take quite few hits. However his stamina is little lower than average and due to that he gets tired quickly, not being able to withstand long fights or traveling on feet. Because of that he often uses special potions which temporarily increase his stamina. He also keeps his items in a bag he has, such as potions, food, drinks and some tools.


Personality: Geralt seems rather serene and apathetic towards other people, who are not his comrades or relatives. He is very calm, even when he is in battle. He generally acts indifferent, sometimes bordering on arrogance to most enemies or people he faces with. However, he cares for those who are important to him and protects them. Geralt is very perceptive man, fully aware of the limits of his abilites. When he says something in comparison to his opponent, it is most of the times correct, however, he still says that he is superior to some opponents. He deeply despises any form of betrayal and lies. In battle, he fights with honor and pride. When he was younger, he was very hot-headed and angered quickly.


History: Geralt is a orphan who was raised by the Holy Church in the arts of battle and demon slaying. During his years as a child, he has been put under the care of Master Schiffer, a old veteran, who has fought many demons and was known among the Church. Schiffer trained Geralt how to seek out, fight and destroy demons or other beings of Hell, but Geralt was a happy child, happy to be raised by someone who he can call father. However, at some point, when Geralt was at the age of 18, his master was assassinated by a demon. This has marked him very deeply and on that day, he changed, he no longer smiled nor laughed. He vowed, that he would fight the dark creatures of Hell, untill his life comes to a end. During the years of his service to the Church he has obtained great battle experience and respect, known as "The Holy Dragon". From various materials he found during his journies he forged a special armor and a sword he uses to this day.   Aestrith is perceived as cold, someone who disregards the feelings of others. She tends to wander about in her thoughts as she watches others. Often times, she will find herself staring or watching far too long. As time flew by in her years, Aestrith has become one who is independent and lacking trust in others. She's a paranoid fool, thinking that almost everyone is out to get her, especially due to her actions. Vicious and cunning, Aestrith does not care if she misleads another to get what she needs. Her ferocity, derived from the harsh years being taught how to kill from a young age, has gotten the best of her; making her lash out in the moments she feels threatened.
  
  
  She's shown bravery in the most terrifying of situations and is eerily calm in environments filled with tension. Although she enjoys keeping to herself, she does not mind messing around with others. For her own amusement, Aestrith will flirt in order to get information out of the other for future uses. Then, once she is finished with them, she will tear them down as they are no longer of any use to her.

  Being one who was trained to kill all of her life, Aestrith knew of nothing else but just that. At a young age, she made her first, flawed kill - in which she was punished until she got it right. Over and over again, the process would continue until her early teen years; that in which she had gotten better. More flawless victories, less mess, and easier escapes. Taken under the wing of one of the most prominent assassins, Aestrith was one to follow like a lost puppy. As if she had no other direction but to follow his. During her time, she learned how to utilize herbs in order to make poisons that were hidden in vials and even the tips of her weapons in small, but deadly, doses.
  
  
  With each kill she felt unstoppable, strong. But, power was not what she truly seeked. It was her greed that needed to be fed, that meaning that she wanted payment. The higher up the person, the higher cost. Whether it be currency itself or something that was near to unattainable.

  Aestrith enjoys being around those she trusts, if there were ever any at all. A closeness or bond is all she yearns for, and yet, she still rejects anyone's advances. She enjoys the thought of no longer having to worry and no longer having no one to go to. A lot of times, Aestrith will be found sharpening her weaponry or grinding herbs in order to make her next attacks - however, that is not all. She loves food. She may seem like the type who would not enjoy anything as warming as a well-cooked meal, but that is not the case at all. In fact, if there's food on the table or anywhere near her that she can get her hands on, then she will most likely reach for it.
  
  
  She dislikes when people tell her what to do as if she were still a child with no direction. Seeing herself as a strong, independent young woman, Aestrith will become hostile when treated as if she is helpless. • Diatra is a very independent person an hates to get in the way or even ask anyone for assistance. Diatra has a kind heart an would almost risk her life for anyone. However with kindness she has some faults. Shes very impatient an enjoys working alone, however everything is better with numbers. Diatra is stubborn and will fight for what she believes is right.

• Diatra was born into the world as her fathers only child, her mother died giving birth to her. Her father, Vincent was a knight. When she wasn't staying with her aunt she was home with her dad, being taught how to fight and defend herself while she was really young an he wasn't able to be around much. At the age 13 her father was killed in battle an was forced to live with her aunt, the only thing she had left of her father was his horse, Nauis. (Pronounced "Nos") Nauis was only 4 at the time when her father was killed. The rest of her life with her aunt wasn't terrible but she was forced to teach herself how to fight without her father. Being alone helped her perfect her speed an agility aspects of training. When she turned 18 an was able to leave home she approached the Vassal. They appointed her as an "assassin" given her talents. Its been 3 years since then and its been a rough three years but she still has Nauis by her side at least.

  The isolation made her, of course, lonely; making her excited when being around other people. A trouble maker at its best and a strong warrior still in the making. She is confident in everything she is doing and is persistent once she sets her mind to the objective. Indis is uncouth, one with no manners and grace, this having others perceive her as one who is helpless and stupid. Of course, she is neither helpless nor stupid; Indis is an intelligent hunter, planning things strategically as she is out on the prowl.
  
  
  Indis is seen as a loose canon, one whose actions are unpredictable. With her uncouth, unrestricted personality, Indis is not afraid of showing what she is truly feeling. If she feels any distaste towards a situation, it is most likely that she will speak up. In order to get her points across, she uses many gestures, sayings, and expressions as if she were narrating some story.
  
  
  Deep down truly is a happy-go-lucky, down-to-earth individual who seeks to assist others.
  
  
  
  
  History:
  
  She lived with her mother and father in the forest, having learned how to hunt as they saw how necessary it was. Indis, however, did not have any interest in it until her later years in which she had lost them. Some way, some how, they vanished and for years, she'd stuck herself in isolation. Trying to learn the basic ropes her parents tried so hard to teach her so many years before. In her time of being alone, she evolved from someone who could barely survive to someone who was the most dangerous thing living in the forest itself. She acknowledged every inch of it, watched whoever was there that wasn't familiar to her.
  
  
  Indis taught herself how to put together weaponry, making short stops into town to gather the supplies that weren't already available to her. From bows and arrows to spears to herbs, Indis figured out a way of survival. She learned how to grind and press herbs for the healing benefits, to treat her wounds. At twenty years old, Indis met her match. A large, strong beast with claws like daggers. Luckily, she fought well enough to make it out with scars that she was able to treat herself.
  
  
  Although she lives in a home just outside of the town, Indis does not fail to create any trouble whenever she is in town. Not only is she a huntsman, but she is a thief. But, sadly, a terrible one at that.
  
  
  
  
  Likes/Dislikes:
  
  Indis is incredibly fond of learning about the many people around her, often questioning their origins and how exactly they came to be who they are now. Enjoying meeting others just as much as she does letting the arrow pounce from her fingers, Indis is gravely outgoing. She enjoys being close to another, feeling safe and warm due to her bout of isolation. In turn, Indis dislikes being alone and forgotten. With abandonment issues, Indis will stick to you like glue if she even has an ounce of infatuation or interest in you. She also has a dislike for the swamp areas as she finds them disgusting despite the fact that she lives near one.

    Adelaisa was born into a famous family of court mages, where she spent her youth and adolescent years. The Vendicci family was particularly well-known for their practices of Illusion magic, which had been taught for many generations within her family line. Adelaisa's father, Alessio Vendicci, introduced her to magic when she was very young. He took her out in the afternoons to the courtyard, where they would spend the rest of the day training or simply messing around. Her father was known for his intelligence and dedication. Adelaisa was told about how he roamed the lands for many years, teaching his practices in small villages and providing for others who were poor.     It was a warm, sunny day. A day where nothing could go wrong. Joshua was playing in the courtyard like any other day, searching for bugs and eating things he wasn't supposed to. Adelaisa's home resided right on the edge of a beautiful, green forest filled with wonders and various kinds of animals. Joshua strayed out of the courtyard, and entered the forest without anyone knowing. Noticing her brother was gone, Adelaisa ran and ran, searching for him in what seemed like an endless land of trees. After what felt like an eternity, she found him in the middle of a clearing, standing motionless. He was unresponsive, and seemed to be staring at something in front of him.
    
    
    And then she heard the sound of an arrow being released. Adelaisa had heard stories of mysterious forest men who fed on human flesh, but never believed they would live so close by her home. Joshua's cause of death was an arrow to the heart. She barely escaped with her life, and was forced to leave his body behind.
    
    
    It took many years for her family to accept he was gone. Including herself.

She believes her parents, like everyone, were weak creatures just needing to survive like everyone else. Aeron does not hate her parents because she knows the need to survive. Aeron ended up being experimented on to try and make weapons from people. She was raised being poked and prodded and so has lots of scars and defects like her eyes.
  
  
  At the age of five, she was safed from that life, but ended up being sold to assassins for a new program of more heartless members. Aeron had no one so she was focused on the task. Compared to being in a cage all her life, this place was a safe haven for her and she was more than pleased to die for these people.   Athena was an assassin trained in childhood, who searched everywhere for her long lost sister. She was broke and hungry and all she wanted was to find her family. She did anything to fill her pouch with a few coins. One day, she got a job that would pay a lot. Enough to eat like a king in a castle, and she was too hungry to pass up a paying job. All she had to do was eliminate a simple target. So she did what she had to do. After the blood was on her hands, she realised who she had murdered. Her own sister. Duped into killing her sibling, she sought after the person who was to pay her for the kill. Not only was she lied about who Athena was to kill, she was not given the money she was promised. Her employer fled and was able to avoid Athena's wrath.
  
  
  
  
  Athena told herself that she would get the revenge she wanted for her sister's death. But, instead of living the life she was trained for, she dropped the assassin life and instead became a knight.     Since a young age, Synda has always acted different. When she was a child, many believed Synda was a mute because of her lack of social skills and quietness. In reality, her odd behavior was caused by a traumatic event that had occurred when she was three, which completely shaped her into a different person. As a result, Synda tends to act cold and emotionless, giving off the impression she dislikes the company of others.
    
    
    As she grew older, Synda managed to shed some of the unsocial tendencies she had growing up. However, her emotionless nature has not changed. She does not act as coldly, but Synda has trouble expressing compassion and care towards others. Upon a first impression, Synda is monotonous, serious, and extremely intimidating according to people who have met her in the past. Due to the fact she expresses no emotions whatsoever, it is very hard to read her, both in combat and in person. Most do not find her presence comforting because of how unpredictable she is.

    A sliver of a second was all it took to crumble her life. One by one, piece by piece.... She felt herself falling into an abyss where she would spend the rest of eternity wondering questions she could not answer.
    
    
    With blood trickling to the floor in crimson streams, a little girl of three watched her father collapse into a heap of broken bones and death. The only family she had left in the world was eliminated; struck down by something she could not explain, nor remember clearly. The traumatic memory was engraved deep into her brain, but like a book with a torn page, something was missing. Something gravely important that the gods would not tell her.
    
    
    For the remainder of her life, Synda spent her days alone, even as a young child. Had it not been for her will to survive, Synda could have easily fallen into the hands of death, just as her father did. As a child, Synda grew up in a small, dusty old cabin filled with cobwebs and the occasional lingering mouse. She took care of herself most of the time, buying food from the nearest village with the remaining coins her father had left behind. When she was near the age of five, Synda found a sword in her basement. It was unknown to her, and something she recalled never seeing before. But despite her doubts, the sword soon became her own.
    
    
    From the age of five to twenty-three, Synda trained every day with the mysterious blade. When she had fully mastered the art of swordsmanship, she set out on a journey into the world. The face of her father's killer remained a mystery, and something she desperately wanted to reveal. Enchanted gauntlets: amplify weaker spells into slightly more powerful counterparts, gemstones embedded in the palms are used to channel magic and her spells. They are also strong enough to deflect weak sword blows or similar attacks.


Well of power: She possesses a heart shaped pendant imbued with power which she can draw from in times of need however must be replenished regularly, draining her.

• Abilities:
  

Fire based attacks: Her spells of choice Tuggs can utilise these spells at three levels, each causing increasing damage and amounts of energy on her part. Fire balls are small blasts of fire capable of knocking enemies back and hurting them, only causing minor injuries. Fire Blasts are a more powerful counter part to this, often knocking people off their feet with sever injuries. Fire waves are sheets of almost solid fire, used in a blade like fashion these can cut through flesh and weaker metals alike. As of yet Tuggs is restricted to fire balls, able to cast fire blasts though with great effort.


Basic shields: Tuggs can create shields to deflect projectiles for short periods of time, this also applies to spells though these wear down her shield much more quickly.


Telekinesis: Tuggs can lift and move objects in her environment. However it acts as more of an extension of her self with equal strength, hence if Tuggs can't physically lift something, she can't telepathically lift it either.


Self illusions: Tuggs can leave behind copies of herself in her place. These illusions don't move and dissipate as soon as they are disturbed, this only works on unintelligent foes.

• Personality:
  

Tuggs is quiet and respectful, one to watch, learn and understand before speaking herself, she dedicates herself to self improvement and her studies determined to be the best version of herself that she can be. She is wise beyond her years and often provides insight that others wouldn't expect from one so young. She has a calm demeanour and calming aura, able to focus and understand the situation that surrounds her despite great pain or stress. Ultimately she works towards a better world though often struggles when hard decisions need to be made, being caught in indecision is often her downfall. Of course with young age also comes inexperience, she is naive to much of the world's secrets and is prone to making simple mistakes because of this.

• History:
  

Tuggs was born in a small fishing village and lived happily in poverty until the age of four. Bandits stormed the village, killing all the men and raping the women, all in front of the young Tugg's eyes. She herself was subjected to several beatings before being left to die. A patrol of knights happened to be passing through the area and noticing the smoke arrived to see what could be salvaged from the ruins, one of them found Tuggs, barely breathing. She was taken quickly to the local town where she was treated by the clerics, one of which sensed magical potential within the girl. The local court wizard was summoned and Tuggs was taken in by the man who raised her, training her until the age of 12. Tuggs suffered horrible under the old man's rule, drilled night and day with magical techniques and tasked with cleaning everything from the floors to the old man's back. Deciding she had enough she stole some of the man's equipment and fled spending the next five years moving from place to place, picking up new magic here and there and perfecting the basic skills she had been taught. Now she is ready to be a part of something bigger.

• Likes/Dislikes: Tuggs values her freedom and independence above all else, as such she enjoys being responsible for herself and her training as a mage. She dislikes authority figures and the church as they often insist on her conformation.

History:

Raven was born into nobility. Her father being a Duke and her mother a Duchess. Her father is the governor over the western part of the empire. Her family is very know and her mother always raised her to be a proper lady. Her mother also had her learn magic abilities so she could protect herself if the situation ever accrued. Raven showed great talent at a young age. She liked the idea of using cards for her magic, so she did. She was given a special type of cards for her to use whenever she needed. Now Raven didn't mind the life she lived actually she liked it a lot but sometimes she grew bored of it and would sneak out and go out exploring from time to time. People praised her on beauty and looks but they never knew her the other side of her. The servants were the ones to experience this arrogant, primadonna side of her. Though she does struggle sometimes. The thing is she doesn't know what she wants to do with her life. Even though it pretty much planned out since she is already engaged to marry when she turns 18. Because of this she has decided to do as much as she can before she is stuck in a marriage she really doesn't want to be in.

  It's quite a surprise when people find out that Wyoming's a templar of the church. She's muscular and toned to the point where she can still move around quickly in a light suit of armour. Wyoming's blonde hair is always tied up in two pig tails but her fringe is left down as it can't be braided back. Casually, Wyoming wears a pair of goggles and an enchanted belt that enhances her defense magic. Her calloused hands are protected by thick brown gloves and she always has her war hammer with her.

• They call her the greatest shield known to mankind and for a good reason. Wyoming can get rather cocky about her title but she believes she's earned being able to boast. At first, the female dwarf can come off as overwhelming, loud, and barbaric but she's proud of who she is and what she has accomplished. Although, her extroverted personality can be excessive.

  Wyoming is someone who acts before she thinks and has a very strong moral compass; she will do what she believes to be right and will not back down in the face of adversity. She's courageous, thick-headed, and almost loyal to a fault. She's a strong young dwarven woman with a hot temper and a passion for protecting those who cannot protect themselves.
  
  
  You could say that Wyoming has a hero complex; she feels the need to save those who she sees as unfortunate and feels guilty for turning a blind eye to those in need in the past. Wyoming treasures life dearly but calls herself a hypocrite due to the way she fights; she kills her enemies without thought and runs on the adrenaline the battle gives her.

  tl;dr Wyoming Garkara was born into slavery, her great grandfather stole a precious jewel from a nobleman and the following three generations were punished for it. At eleven, Wyoming was sold to the black market by the nobleman and was bought by a mine owner. While working in the mines, Wyoming met an elf named Fiora and became close to him. A year later, Wyoming found a diamond and stole it. When Fiora found out, he tried to return it but was caught up a guard and beaten to the brink of death. After that, Wyoming never saw Fiora again.
  
  
  For the next year, Wyoming planned her escape and finally got away on Christmas Eve. She ran to the church for sanctuary and was taken in by a nun. From there, Wyoming trained a templar, wanting to be able to protect people unlike before. Years later, Wyoming was set on a mission with her team to take out some evildoers who were terrorizing a city. It turned out that there was an entire gang who were getting ready to bomb the city. However, at the last moment of the fight against time, Wyoming was able to put up a large shield to protect the city from the magical attack. Thus, granting her the title as "the greatest shield known to mankind".

  The Ancestors Are At Fault

  Wyoming Garkara was born into slavery in the Holy Roland Empire. Her great-grandfather had committed a crime against a nobleman and as punishment, three generations of the Garkara family would be enslaved; Wyoming was the fourth generation. The sentence extended itself for another four generations after the lady of the house accused Wyoming's aunt for poisoning her food.
  
  
  By the time Wyoming was born, her family was the lowest of the lows. In fact, you couldn't even call them a family because they were almost never around one another. They were always working. Wyoming couldn't remember how her mother screamed in protest when they took her newborn child away from her but she did remember how her great-grandfather's theft and aunt's supposed attempted murder affected her life.
  
  
  She was raised like cattle, beaten and battered into shape. The only love in her life was from her mother, who would just barely sing Wyoming to sleep at night. The older slaves also took pity on the young ones like Wyoming, who were forced into slavery due to their ancestors mistakes; the gifts were little, such as extra food and water, but what could one give when they had nothing? Wyoming was a child slave and she had yet to experience the worst.
  
  
  Wyoming was only eleven years old when she was tied up, gagged, blindfolded and shoved into a tightly packed ship. For the next twenty-four hours, darkness, fear, and other bodies was all that Wyoming knew. However, after she emerged from the ship, she often wished she was back inside that cage that also kept all the evil out. She never knew the reason why she was sold to the black market but Wyoming just prayed to God that she would not be prostituted.
  
  
  Normally, an eleven year old knowing about prostitution would shock an adult but this was the world that Wyoming grew up in. It was filled with sin, drunkards, and whores. Wyoming was a lucky one, even she knew that when she was brought to the podium to be auctioned off. At least she had an idea of who was going to buy her, unlike those who would suddenly find themselves locked in a wine cellar.
  
  
  She was taken far away from her only family and was thrown into a dark room along with several other children. It seemed to Wyoming that she was one of the older ones. The dwarf didn't know how long they were trapped in the room. Was it hours? Minutes? Perhaps it had been days? But when the door opened and light streamed through, Wyoming soon found herself and the other children being dragged deep into the mines of Gaul.

  Diamonds Are a Girl's Best Friend

  The eleven year old could hardly breathe. Surely if she weren't a dwarf but a human she would have died from the sudden decrease of oxygen. Wyoming could see as the other less fortunate children become lightheaded and seemed as if they were about to faint as the older slaves taught them how to mine. She saw that some of them had to be carried out on a trolley to the surface.
  
  
  Wyoming could guess what happened to those children as they came back beaten and bruised. They were better off fainting. So, she did what she thought was best; listen mindlessly to the older slave and do what had to be done, but not well enough to attract attention to herself. The more attention she had, the more likely she was to be punished. But the moment Fiora was the one who approached her, Wyoming was doomed.
  
  
  Fiora was an elf in his mid-forties but he still looked pretty young, it was the way that he talked and held himself that showed off his age. He was a rather new slave, having been captured from his village and sold to gladiator fights in the Holy Roland Empire before getting injured and being transferred to Gaul's mines. Wyoming learnt all that about him over the course of a few hours.
  
  
  He was friendly and kind to her, acting like an older brother who would assist her in any way. Wyoming was a bit wary of him but she opened up after a day or two. They would talk quietly to one another, exchange smiles and jokes when the supervisors weren't around. Wyoming grew to love Fiora and he her. It was a year later when Wyoming found something priceless and lost everything.
  
  
  They say that diamonds were the masterpieces of the earth but Wyoming didn't see anything special in the rough shiny piece of rock. It looked about the same as ever other jewel that was found but Fiora was the one who told Wyoming not to throw it away in the pile with the other jewels.
  
  
  He told her it was a diamond but it didn't look like one. It was small, dirty, and wasn't shaped at all like a diamond. Wyoming frowned and stared at the gem. She began to brush the dirt away and buff it a little. That was when a fire was lit within the dwarf, a love for treasure and shiny things that got her great-grandfather arrested. She didn't think much about it when she did it, Wyoming didn't think anyone would notice, so she slipped the diamond inside her pocket.
  
  
  Wyoming would admire the jewel at night when everyone was asleep and over time, she would buff it. Night after night, the diamond became more beautiful. She became borderline obsessed and would think about the diamond while she worked, tuning out even the shrieks of the slaves being whipped and abused. Normally, Fiora would have to cover Wyoming's ears as she would tremble in his arms but no, she simply continued working.
  
  
  One day, a year later, Fiora confronted Wyoming about it. She had been acting strange lately and he wanted to know why. That was when Wyoming reluctantly showed Fiora the diamond she had been buffing night after night. The elf gasped and quickly snatched it out of Wyoming's hands. He asked her why she had kept it and she shrugged; she wasn't sure why she had kept it, it just never occurred to her to put it back after she had put it in her pocket the first day.
  
  
  Fiora frowned at Wyoming and was about to put the diamond in the pile of jewels when a guard snatched the diamond out of his hands. Before Fiora could explain what he was doing, Wyoming saw the guard strike the elf across the face and begin beating him. She ran to the elf's side, crying out for the guard to stop, but she was simply struck by the man and pulled back by the other slaves.
  
  
  She watched as her only friend, her only family, was beaten to the brink of death, knowing that she couldn't do anything. After that incident, Wyoming never saw Fiora again. She assumed that he must have been transferred or thrown into prison, perhaps he even died? However, that event struck a chord in Wyoming, a rebellious fire that burned to escape from slavery.

  The Lady in Black and White
