This is an alternate earth, the nations DO NOT have to coincide with any existing historic timeline including that of the DC universe. However tech level is set in the iron age at the most advanced with tribal hunter gatherer at the lowest. The oldest empires are up to 4,500 years old, prior to that some great disaster brought Mankinds numbers everywhere quite low. Ruins of nations from the Golden age prior to the disaster dot the land, some have even been occupied by later settlers.

Culture: Mepolis is a nation of Celebration and joy Known for their twice monthly Lunar Celebrations of the Full and New moons, And their Quarterly seasonal Grand Banquets. These parties attract merchants and revelers from the world over and a strong economy funds constant cleaning crews which keep the city pristine. Either in spite of or perhaps because of these community building and stress relieving celebrations mepolis manages to maintain a very industrious workforce with her merchants and smiths and tanners and all manner of trade flowing freely in and out if her. The cities architecture is an odd mix of very old yet very ornate and pristine both because of the stable climate of the area and the nature of its origin. Militarily Mepolis maintains one of the best equipped, trained, and organized armies on the planet though its limited in size and scope due to mepolis being one single city rather than a collection of them, Its military is bolstered by the two paladin orders of the Sun and Moon. Who guard the Night and Day.
History: When the great disaster struck the world several miners were stowed away in their mines far to the north near the point of impact. Several nearby villagers who had seen the comet coming fled to this very same mine managing to get there before the impact shook the world and sealed the mine entrance protecting them from the flood that would encompass most of the northern hemisphere. These miners would take their great relics which could move the very earth using nothing more than sound and carved homes for themselves and these villagers into the mountain itself where they would dwell for upwards of a year. Eventually upon emerging from the caves they would see a world in ruin and devoid of any signs of life near them. Thus they began to carve homes into the mountain they had been mining, the very mountain that kept them alive, the great mount Polis. Over the next couple hundred years, these sonic mining machines would be utilized to carve the great city, and when those finally ceased their functions due to lack of maintenance, magic took their place, and eventually the twin deities came to the Settlement.

Enemies were kept at bay by the great cliff-sides, and by the copious amounts of metal that was extracted from the mountain as the city was being built. Massive farms and villages of farmers would begin to gather around the city to feed its growing population, likewise a network of tunnels and abodes were built all the way throughout the mountain like a giant Anthill. The thick stone walls of Mepolis and their great Order of the Sun Paladin’s, And Moon Paladins would keep the City safe Day and Night throughout the Invasions of darkseid and his Armies, Mepolis’ Patron deity the sun god Helios And His Sister Yune were among the many who rose to face the Otherworldly Evil Deity, And though the knights of their orders would survive their battle, The god if the sun himself would not, yet he promised that one day, The sun god would walk among them again. The moon goddess took her brothers body to rest on the moon and has yet to return.

It was During the Day of Devastation That the royal line of Kent Was Severed, And the Luthor Family was elevated to the throne, Where they actually managed to earn Countless victories due to their strategic minds after all they were A military family prior to the throne. Even still They have ruled justly and with honor for the past 500 years however the current king Lionel Luthor’s reign is plagued by unwanted war. During the reign of Lionel Luthor, Mepolis was struck with a miracle, the Apparent Return of their Sun God, something they would announce to the entire world, though with vague details. Currently the kingdom is locked in a three front war against her adjacent neighbors. Luckily “Gods” have yet to get involved on either side.

Led By sir Perry white The Order of the sun is made up of Bold Battle tested Frontline Knights, and paladins who harness the power of the sun the unleash upon their enemies. Their magics include healing light, shields of solar energy, beams of heat, and burning swords/armor to Reduce the enemies of Mepolis to ash. Thanks to the wealth of Mepolis and the Compact size of their military, paired with the Prestige of the Order since the Days of Destruction, The Knights and Paladins of the sun are very well equipped with master crafted and enchanted weapons and armor. You are more likely to encounter magical arms than mundane. They are very competitive by nature with both the standard army and the order of the moon. Always trying to attain higher glory than either but especially the latter. For the Sun is Arrogant but with good reason, its light beats back the cold dark that wishes to consume all things, and its fight never truly ends, though it may fall darkness may come, always the sun rises again, ALWAYS it conquers the dark.

Led by Lady Lana Lang The order of the Moon is made up of Master Hunters and assassins, Protected by a line of Paladins who call upon the mystic energies of the Moon. While the Sun knights train in combat and physically destructive magic. The magic of the order of the moon Utilizes Mental assaults, Illusions, Teleportation, Stealth And Subterfuge to leave their foes Unable to mount proper defenses Effectively breaking sieges and shattering enemy morale. Unlike the competitive nature of the Order of the Sun, the Order of the Moon is a sacrificial one, they give their wealth to those in need, and thus must rely more upon their magic and wits, than their equipment, save for a few weapons and shields of quality enchantment they tend to be more mundanely armed. They reflect Glory away from themselves crediting the General armies of Mepolis, Its guard, and even the Order of the Sun, For the Moon is Not prideful, She is Humble and gentle, yet ever present and without her, the night would be so much darker.​

Culture:

Zertaris has become known for their powerful mages, but also their creativity. They are lovers of entertainment and the arts. Many civilians are masterful painters, sculptors, musicians, illusionists, ect. Many have traveled far and wide to see shows in their cities and join in celestial festivals of this land. There is always a large scale theatrical presentation in the cities closest to the capital once a month showcasing the best talent they have to offer. They sell for a hefty price which keeps the nation afloat, especially the costs to maintain their capital.

They are still a land known for it's mysterious history that's kept under lock and key taught only to the elite of the land. It's everyday civilians don't even know the whole story.

Mechanically they are not among the most advanced civilizations, but what they lack in military, and mechanical innovation they ty to make up for in magic substitutes. However even they are aware that doesn't help with everything hence their strong push to making ties with other nations to learn from them and grow stronger in what they lack.

They have grown out past their capital and have smaller woodland villages hidden under tree tops. These are where most visitors of the nation go and explore if not high ranking. They still are very protective of their capital and who they let in and out of it, but have no problems letting people traveling through and visit the surrounding parts of their domain. The elites take frequent visits to these outer cities and it's not uncommon to see them among the common folk. The exception is the royal line. They are rarely seen outside of the capital.

They have gods, but the outside world think they have more then there are. They consider those of the elite families to be descendants of gods and sometimes worship their family names, and heirs. This is mostly done by family lines not native to the kingdom.

Climate wise the area is very humid most of the time, and it rains often but a lot of the inhabitants have grown used to it.

History:

The ancestors of this nation actually date back to before the great disaster that sank Atlantis. The Homomagi died that were there which was the majority of the population, but the race didn't come to an end because due to their advanced understanding of their magical capabilities were testing portal travel (Also there lies the possibility that some were away and survived with other pockets of mankind). What was originally a massive spell gone wrong on an outlying city saved the lives of 5,000 Homomagi teleporting them to a different dimension, Zerox. They missed the beginning of the rebuilding of the world, but they did have to start over in their own new world that didn't play by all the same rules as earth, as well as not having any of their written knowledge. Sadly these were not the elite of the race, but your average day to day users of magic.

They spent the next 2,000 years trying to rebuild and find their way back to this world. Finally they were successful, but there was a split. Only half of the new civilization wanted to return. So with only half their numbers they finally managed to return to this world, and it looked vastly different then what had been passed down through the ages. So they cast that knowledge and idea of that society aside believing it to just be a lie in favor of creating a completely new identity. One they new from Zerox, s they named their new home Zertaris. With new nations they'd never seen or heard of before all around they kept a low profile tucked away deep in the nearest forest (think amazon rainforest type). They used their magic capabilities to for the second time start to rebuild a life and nation for themselves. This time there were at least more. The first colony being only 50,000 people strong.

As time progressed people left the woodland nation to other nations. Some stayed gone, but some came back and shared knowledge of the new world. They eventually started learning more about the technology of the era, and used that to build. They still heavily relied on magic, but they were slowly starting to intertwine technology with it.

Just before the invasion of Darkside they'd just started building a new capital hidden even deeper in the forest in a waterfall. They still had surrounding villages that most of the population lived in. Once the attack happened many perished, but those who escaped to the still unknown and hidden capital survived. A lot of the more powerful sorcerers of the nation did all they could to protect the city, but the most notable was that of the Zatara line. Hecate Zatara not only helped protect the city but dealt crushing blows to his forces enough to spark stories about her to travel across the land. She became revered as a deity, a goddess among men even though she was just like any other pureblooded Homomagi. Thing was as time had passed the bloodlines had mixed. Only the elite sorcerer family were still pureblooded. Since pureblooded Homomagi live longer then mixed blooded and much longer then humans that even more so made them seen as gods once the dust settled. While people of the nation know this, they allow other nations to believe this narrative thinking it'll keep them safe if they think gods favor and live with them.

Now for the third time they were restarting basically. They retained a lot of their magical knowledge and poweress, but lost once again quite a bit of their technological knowledge and libraries. This time they focused on the capital city believing that it's location was key in protecting it from the invasion. Even with magic rebuilding has taken a long time, and this time the nation has decided not to be hidden. They've opened their doors to others of the other nations especially academics because in the event of another global disaster they think having allies would help them not have to restart from scratch again. in recent years they have strategically sent ambassadors from their elite sorcerer families into powerful nations in hope of making alliances through trade or marriage. Never the heirs, but the spares. All except those of the Zatara line because they are believed to be the most powerful of the families. They are not the royal line in charge, but are close advisors. In the event the royal line is ever whipped out they would most likely rise to that position if there isn't a civil war over getting it among the elite families.

Culture: Magic is not just some form of entertainment, or even a source of power in Ulgen it is life. The two are interlinked and interweaved in a way that one can not go a step without seeing some form of magic or another. From the lowest of peasant to the highest of noble magic is a birthright gifted to all by the gods of the lands. This advancement in the mystic arts has eliminated many mundane tasks with Animunculi taking over the physically intensive jobs or unwanted jobs. With the need for workers lessened the country has long valued education teaching children from a young age to master the mystic arts and the mysteries of the world, from mathematics to astrology any child is educated in them all. Still this is not some complete utopia as those without the touch of the gods are looked down on and while not completely shunned, their prospects for advancement are limited and they make up a majority of the poor or homeless. This view is ingrained deep enough heirs have been disinherited and banished from their families when they could not develop any talent for the mystic. All power is decided by magic and heirs are not chosen just because they were born first but because they could defend their position from all their siblings male and female. More than one ruling dysnasty has fallen because the gods did not bless them with magic and a new stronger family managed to unseat them. Still should someone lacking a knack for magic prove themselves with their knowledge or skill with a blade they can manage to climb to high positions in society, but this is rare.

The lay out of the nation is centered around the river vitea where Dr Fate first brought those that survived the end times. As they learned the city grew and soon other cities were founded many in areas further and further from the life giving river that had sheltered the first inhabitants from the harsh deadly desert. They tend to like to build with stone and crystal then decorate the buildings with plants and running water. This is all a show of their mastery over the desert and its scarcity that they can make any place they chose and oasis. Often times to truly show their power and skill one person or a group of people will join together to create massive flying structures and many logic defying architectural designs that machines could never hope to replicate.

When it comes to military matters Ulgen tends to focus heavily on using their War Animuculi magic and metal men animated simply to kill and follow orders. They like to mass these magical puppets and use them to tar pit enemies tying up their forces while more elite and smaller forces ensure victory. Where the enemy is weak swordsmen skilled at the arts of the blade as much as they are with the magic of destruction are sent to break through. Where the enemy is strong groups of mystics weave together great spells of mass destruction. With chariots borne aloft by astral steeds lightning strikes are conducted on the enemies flanks when air superiority is established. Of course they also include mystics whose entire role is counter any mystical assault and or attempt to summon in reinforcements. When situations are Dire The nations guardian Dr Fate will show up to ensure a victory, this however is never assured as Dr Fate never shows up in conquests.

Trade is welcomed though should anyone try to peddle new technological marvels they will find themselves quickly without any buyers and likely sent out of the city. Technology while not seen as inherently bad is blamed for the end times, men to blinded by their vanity in what they could do were destroyed by the gods. So any contraption that is highly complicated is practically forbidden and inventors are treated as criminals to be. They only tend to accept technology when magic is intertwined and see it as pure then. They however do like important many raw goods and exporting mystical tools to help in more basic tasks. They however do not export any animuncli to try to sell or buy them with an outsider is a death sentence.

One thing of note is while they don't technically inhabit all of the desert they dwell in the government considers all of it their land and whole they go through periods they are more often defensive keeping others from their land and only sometimes taking over outside the sands. While not a theocracy religion to a pantheon plays a heavy role in the day to day life of anyone in Ulgen and priests while not government officials do have the ear of many officials.

History: The story of Ulgen starts with then end, the end of all things. The details have as one might expect been lost to time and highly distorted through cultural bias. They say long ago man grew not in the talents of the arcane but in mastery of the mundane. They created technological blasphemies that angered the gods. This caused them to decide to destroy man and all he had made. Still they did not wish to destroy all mankind thus were some spared, through divine protector or secret divine aid. For ulgen their protector was Dr Fate, a being from the times before that saw the end coming and secreted away many people to protect them from the end. When the end was over Dr Fate brought them into a new clean world and taught them Magic. Always would they revere Dr Fate as their guardian and guide a divine spirit below the gods, yet above human. While Dr Fate taught them many things their culture and government was their own, though their building style was introduced by him.

For thousands of years Ulgen would grow in power and territory, sometimes expanding out of the desert only to some time latter abandon those gains after taking all they brought back with them. Each high Pharon would wage war or expand trade as they saw fit , though most spent their time building more and more mystical monuments or education, or religious centers. it was simpler to leave their mark on history by building than by conquest as while the world outside was interesting the desert was their home so expansion was never truly that likely to take. During this time Dr Fate very rarely appeared only showing up when the nation was under assault, a monarch was becoming a tyrant, or some other issue was becoming to destructive.

Then came Darkside and his monsters that burst forth seemingly from nowhere. The military having never had to much in the way of experience was easily overwhelmed by the monsters bred for war. Many saw this Darkside as a god of evil and destruction here to visit a second end upon the world. it was as the nation seemed like it would fall that Dr Fate would once more save them. Emerging from nothing he brought with him a scouring flame that burned away the invaders leaving not but ash as it washed over the desert. Tried by this Dr Fate instructed the most powerful mystics to create a shield to keep those outside out and while he dealt with the god. The Nation would return to peace when the dark god was defeated in another land, and the great shield let down. With news of foreign lands starting to fight one more they watch carefully through their scrying as they prepare for war should it come.

Culture: Not much in terms of culture as it is a militaristic order rather than a nation's and fairly recent in its inception. What it does have for it is that it's multicultural. The order has members from every nation out there and so had become a melting pot of cultures and traditions with each knight bring its own habits. This has actually had another unintended consequences of making the castle a found of knowledge and stories from all over the globe. Something coveted by many, but the order's strict entry policy for knights, a mystery in itself as it appears largely random. This had led to the knights in their travels to act as teachers and storytellers providing to those that are willing to go listen and willing to provide a donation to help them in their travels.
History: One of the youngest nations in the world, at least is it can be counted as a nation in the traditional sense. It began with a young rich noble of Mepolis descents, Lord Harold Jordan, a typical rich brat who inherited the lands from his father after he died in battle. Harold spend the money on hedonistic things, abusing the peasantry and losing any good will his father had gained. He brought the peasantry to near rebellion when a meteor landed not far from the castle one night, glowing with an etherial green glow like nothing that was seen on earth before. Hal was the first one to get to the meteor but what he saw and what happened was never revealed. For the next couple of days an ominous green glow seemed to emanate from the castle followed by flashes of green light and natural noises. Rumour had it that Hal had discovered a new kind of magic from the meteor.

When Hall appeared again he was a changed man with a renewed focus wearing plate armour of pure green light and a large claymore held with one hand, including the ability of flights. He became a champion of justice coming into aid of those who were wrong caring little of titles or money. He wiped out bandit gangs, stopped wars single-handedly even disposed a dictator. However, despite his skills he could not be everywhere at ones. Several more meteors seemed to hit the area outside the castle and during the days that followed, a few select people seemed to be let into the castle of different background some with no military training. They, too, stepped out of the castle wearing similar emerald ethereal armour and weapons. Thus the forming of the Order of the Emerald Frame was born with Harold Jordan using his connections to make his order an independent organization of justice seekers. Known not only for the green magic but also their Oath.

Methods and traditions are closely guarded secrets and few but the order knows the full extent of their powers and numbers. Over the years there were several stories of the orders members coming to the aid of people, some falling out of the skies as angels or as beggar suddenly starting glowing green. People in all nation seemed to have stories of being saved by a member of the order. Though there secretive natures and strong powers courted mistrust and envy as long as they are used for the greater good seemed to keep the people's good will. It is an unofficial rule that a traveller carrying the ring of the emerald fire is intituled for free room and board in any tavern.

Government type: Scattered tribes
Leadership: The Mighty (The strongest chief at any given time.)
Culture: A secluded land of tribal people who happily live in harmony with the land…but not one another. Conflict and bloodshed fill the history of this nation but have lead to it producing some of the hardiest people on the planet, it is no exaggeration to say one man and one woman are all that are needed to forge a nation. Their long lifespans paired with their self sustainable culture tends to make this nation slow to progress but very quick to recover from any losses or disasters. That said, they do not deal well with outsiders as they so rarely have any.
History: The celestial body that fell 4500 years ago had several strange properties that went unnoticed to most due to the far more pressing concerns of Global devastation. Yet these properties would he felt by the world. Firstly the area of direct impact, a crater nearly 45,000 square miles in area (A little smaller than Pennsylvania.) never froze back over. This land while initially a barren fiery wastland, however after about thirty years it would cool, and very quickly new life would fill the now fertile land. It would be another Five hundred years before this lush paradise was found by glacial explorers Investigating the impact site of the world ending comet. After losing their way and several of their team in an expansive ice cave, and eventually bashing through an ice wall they found This fertile valley. They intended to bring the record of their discovery back to the world, but a naked man with long black hair and Inhuman strength beat them, took their supplies and fled down their created tunnel, collapsing it on their way. With no way back home these people would irk out a living, build a community, have children, and become the first Tribes of Skartaris.

For almost 3,400 years these people would grow and develop. As it turned out the Celestial body had released some form of Cosmic radiation which permeated the environment and stimulated Rapid evolution. As a result the Creatures here were Adaptable and Dangerous, even the plants were involved in the constant biological arms race of nature. As it turned out the Human settlers were not out of this loop. The micro particles of the radioactive minerals from the comet were in the water, the ground, in every plant, and every animal, it was even in the very air. As a direct result the Human tribes grew stronger, smarter, More hardy. To the point where the Exceptionally rare visitors to this land would report it to be a land of young savage gods. They could easily wrestle dinosaurs, go days without sleep, food, or water, and even withstand being struck by lightning or falling from a high cliff. The people here were clearly something more than normal humans. Sadly one calling himself the Warlord would spread like wildfire through the clans conquering all and driving out all outsiders, a warning of a coming series of raids and invasions to be launched.

The Skartari raids would come mere months before the forces of Darksied made their appearance. Their small war bands of 10-20 Warriors would lay waste to small villages in the northern lands and even hold their own against much much larger forces retreating from huge armies while exacting costly tolls on any pursuant forces. Even the mightiest of Gods and Kings can attest to the sturdiness of these warriors having on multiple occasions been shocked that they remained alive after being struck by their fury. Over the course of six months and among four kingdoms, only Six of these Raiding Warriors was ever recorded being felled in battle. The raids continued into the Darksied Days of Devastation, however nations began to shift their armies leaving supplies unguarded so as to invite these raiders into battlefields where the greater enemies forces were. This tactic actually proved invaluable as slowly but surely the Skartari raiders abandoned targeting nations and directed ALL their assaults on the invasion force, with one attack party even being responsible for the downfall of Stephenwulf, and Another Felling a Fury. The raids would continue for fifteen years after the days of devastation, counter attacks launched against them always ended the same, with the raiders fleeing into northern ice caves and NO ONE who entered after them ever emerging again. The raids would suddenly end one day however and rumor has it that a new The Mighty took over, one with far less interest in the outside world. Wether that is a boon or a perk only time will tell, however in the past 485 years only five Skartari people have come down from their northern home.

Other: Skartaris is basically a giant Hole in the ice Sheets of Greenland about the size of the state of Pennsylvania. The valley of green is surrounded on all sides by a 2.5 mile thick wall of ice, at the top of which is an endless expanse of ice…if you wanted to climb up the Glacial wall, and walk from the Skartari valley to civilization, your shortest route would be journeying South east through the glaicial ice in constant whiteout blizzard conditions for 79 miles, there you will eventually find a massive canyon that goes down 2.5 miles to the glacial valley floor. You can then walk this canyon for another 121 miles until you reach the northernmost parts of the northern coast of the UK. Entering is actually much harder, that same massive canyon has countless ice caves burrowing into the Glacier, they interconnect, dead end, and wind into a terrible maze of tunnels. One of these tunnels and only one Snakes all the way to the Skartari Lands. It is believed that the tunnels are spillways for the water melted by the comet to unleash into the atlantic ocean causing the sharp rise in sea levels, but some are undeniably manmade, carved by the Fists of the Skartari people.

"Welcome to Gotham! Yes yes I know you have concerns but its ok. Yes we have King who could flip his shit at the toss of coin but its ok you likely won't have to meet him. How silly sure we have the most insane criminals compared to any other kingdom but its perfectly safe for we have a bat that drinks their blood........Actually forget I said that. Now come let's us continue the tour of the Grand Kingdom of Gotham! I've promise there's not another kingdom like it."

Gotham is as two faced as their king. During the day the kingdom comes off bright and inviting. Then at night criminals and terror run through the streets. Even though Freya and Cameztotz are the main gods over Gotham during the time they were sealed settlers took over and brought with them their religion. These settlers worshiped The 7 Great Saints. It was said that these saints were originally humans and they worshipped the the Almighty One. These followers were so devoted to the Almighty One that when they died they became The Almighty One's right hand and would were now basically gods. The People pray to them in hopes these saints will grant their request. Each Saint represents something different, so if you want something specific you pray to that saint in hopes of the prayer being answered. But Even with this religion people whose blood goes back to the original natives still pray to the original gods Freya and Cameztotz and these followers have began to build. Though it is not as big as the Saints followers. There are beautiful gothic style churches built in honor of The 7 Great Saints and hold mass every Sunday. With this religion of course comes holidays celebrated throughout the kingdom. One in the spring and Winter. In the summer the kingdom has a festival just for fun with food and entertainment with no religion attached. And there is one more holiday, this particular one is dedicated to the gods Freya and Cameztotz this holiday takes place in the fall and is basically a night ritual done for worshiping and celebrating Freya and Cameztotz buuuuuut the settlers changed this into their own little holiday having it to be a spooky night with costumes and balls. (Quite frankly that really doesn't really sound to different from any other night in Gotham does it?). But the followers of Freya and Cameztotz still perform the ritual despite the kingdom not recognizing it themselves.

History:
Before the kingdom Gotham was even a thought originally there had been natives that lived there and worshipped two gods, Cameztotz, the Bat God of Death, Vengeance, and Sacrifice and Freya, the Cat Goddess of Love, Allure and luck. They were always at odds and fighting one another. They would also use their followers by each choosing one to grant powers to and then fight each other. The gods caused a lot of chaos and eventually the natives got tired of it and sealed the gods away however this seal wouldn't last forever. As time went by the seal weakened and eventually the two gods we free again but they came to realize everything had changed what was once a land of the natives had now turned into a kingdom called Gotham. Even still though after all that time the two gods rivalry had not faltered. So they continued on their rivalry but this time they weren't as obvious about it. They each choose their new representatives and watched the fun though their new representatives didn't care as much about the gods rivalry but they did cross each others paths.

Freya and Cameztotz weren't the only gods who had been sealed in Gotham there was another a foul and dangerous primordial god that was born from the catastrophe 4500yrs ago, Jhekuur, the Serpent God of Madness, Chaos, Dreams, And Nightmares. It can possess nearly any creature or being but only one at a time, and only those who are susceptible to madness. It posses them when they are at their most vulnerable. They gain strange and random abilities and often become wickedly mad. They appear randomly and the one possessed by the mad gods curse will remain that until they die. Freya and Cameztotz both agree that Jhekuur must not be released from his prison and shackles in Gotham. If the shackles are loosed it can take multiple victims at once, if the seal is broken his influence can spread beyond Gotham. But surely that won't become a problem...right?
