Name:

Moss and Roo.

Nicknames:

None.

Age:

Both twelve.

Traits:

The twins are, at least to a certain point, opposites. Moss is analytical and wary, a pessimistic, quiet and cynical boy who can come across as very bitter. Probably because that's what he is. Though he has a good heart and can be very loving, he is cold on the exterior due to years of mistreatment, more mature than he should have to be and very responsible. He has a logical mind, with more bravery in his little finger than most grown men have in their whole body. He is very loyal and exceedingly protective, especially of his sister. He can be a bit aggressive, but that stems from his defensive nature. He doesn't actually mean to harm anyone, but if he feels threatened, he becomes hostile. Roo, on the other hand, is a very open being. She is far quicker to trust than Moss, managing to hang onto some shred of innocence whereas Moss abandoned his to give her a chance to be a child. She is the optimist of the two, wanting to believe that they will someday be saved, but even she is losing hope. Affectionate, sweet and shy, she comes across as very demure, and in truth, she is rather meek. However, despite what it may seem, she is very courageous, not afraid to step out of her comfort zone to help Moss. She can be very clingy and is rather awkward, but she is overall a precious girl, and it's hard not to adore her.

Appearance:

The two are very similar in appearance, being twins. Both have curly golden blonde hair, Moss's reaching his earlobes and Roo's her chin, and almond shaped ocean blue eyes. They have the same beauty mark under the outer corner of their right eye, with round faces, straight noses and thin lips. Both are worryingly thin, standing at significantly below the average height for their age with spindly limbs. Moss has scars on his back and forearms, while Roo has them on her shoulders and the backs of her legs. Due to all their time in the darkness, their pupils have grown to be abnormally large, giving them the ability to see to the dark to a certain extent, and considering neither have ever seen sunlight, they are obscenely pale, little blue veins shocking visibly beneath their skin.

Biography:

Their father, Elliott, was a drug dealer, and their mother, Leah, was one of his clients. When Leah began running out of money to pay for the drugs, she found another, rather unorthodox, way to pay Elliott, resulting in her becoming pregnant with the twins. Neither of them wanted to responsibility of children, and another member of the underground, a certain Peter Malroy, heard of their problem, and approached them. He offered to take the children off their hands, no legal requirements or anything, and the parents readily gave him the infants. If they'd known the awful life they were condemning their children to, even they wouldn't have handed them over. For Peter Malroy was a sick man, with a twisted passion for inflicting pain on the helpless. He kept the children locked in his basement, beating them brutally but never killing them. They were his pets, his possessions. The craving for murder was fulfilled using children plucked off the streets; they weren't special like his pets. They were
his, his pretty little children. Their screams delighted him like no others did. He was going to keep them alive, because he enjoyed them. The twins have grown up without seeing daylight. They've never seen nature, or even another human being besides each other and Peter, who they dubbed "Yama" as children. Since they didn't have any real names, they named themselves, piecing together random sounds until they found a combination they liked. The boy became Moss, and the girl became Roo. That's who they were, and who they'd always be. The torture, the suffering, it molded their personalities in different ways. Moss became cold and defensive, with room for only his sister in his heart. Roo, on the other hand, became kind, wanting to ensure that she never put someone through so much as a fraction of the pain they went through. Considering they'd spent their whole life in Yama's basement, one could understand their surprise when a stranger came marching down, declaring that he was here to save them. The next few hours were a blur, unknown faces and white rooms and too many questions. Finally, after a day of confusion and fear, they were brought to a lovely house by the man who'd taken them from the basement. Though they were still frightened and trying to figure out what was going on, both a little wary and very broken, they couldn't deny that the new life they were presented with was very nice.

Extra Information:

+ More often than not, Moss tries his best to protect Roo from Yama, as she is his precious sister and he doesn't want anything to happen to her. (This habit infuriates Roo, since
he is her precious brother, and she doesn't want anything to happen to him.) Unfortunately, Yama has a major size advantage, and all he really has to do is give Moss a few good kicks to make the boy unable to defend Roo.

+ Yama has an unsettling fondness for whipping, which resulting in the scars on Moss's back and Roo's calves and thighs. The bloody welts are hard to look at, and often the children do just about everything they can to avoid laying eyes on them. All the same, they suppose the physical abuse is a better punishment than some of the other things Yama subjects them to, particularly when he has too much to drink.

+ To be discovered.
