Anabeth Blackwater: Captain of the Black Phoenix

Anabeth stood watch at the bow of her ship, leaning on the rail as she stared at the land slowly coming into view. Unfortunatelly, this trip to land was not meant to be a pillaging one, but rather a "refueling" oppurtunity. She had planned everything out. Her crew was divided into three groups; one to get food, one to get rum, and one to get weapon supplies. While they were doing that, she would go "shopping" for some new boots, for hers were wearing out.

The crew did not require their captain to give the orders to weigh anchor when the time came. The crew was very self-sufficient when it came to tasks like that, which made Anabeth that much happier. The colors were lowered before coming into sight of Port Smith, and a tattered british flag was put in place of the Jolly Roger. Everyone on the ship glared at the flag, but it would keep them safe while they were low on ammo. The sails were wound so the unusual black color would be less noticeable.

The second the crew stepped foot on land, they took off in different directions to make this stop a quick and easy one. It took almost no time for Anabeth to find a perfect pair of boots, and they were almost too easily stolen as the man turned his back. With extra time to spare, Anabeth found a nice jewelry shop and began to look around inside. The shopkeeper was very nice to her and gladly pulled out every item Anabeth wished to see. Anabeth put a large ruby medallion around her neck and admired her reflection in the mirror.

"That looks lovely on you, dear" the elderly shop owner said with a smile. Anabeth smiled back in agreement. "You don't think it's too gaudy, do you?" Anabeth questioned. "Oh absolutely not! It accents your body perfectly, if I do say so myself."

Outside, Anabeth noticed one of her men flagging her down, a signal that all of the men had finished loading the ship and were ready to set sail. "I must be off" Anabeth said to the old man, pulling a pistol out from her jacket. "Oh, and I'll be taking this with me." she smirked as she waved the gun in front of the man's terrified face before slipping out the store and back towards her ship, singing softly one of the many songs her father had taught her.

"Yo, ho, haul together, hoist the colors high. Heave, ho, thieves and beggars, never shall we die....."

Take what you can...

As Anabeth headed quickly towards the docks, she noticed three officers on horseback searching the streets, coming from the direction of the shop she was just at. Immediately, she tucked the ruby into her breasts and slipped into the nearest alleyway to avoid being found. Had she been in any other port, she would have stayed and fought them if the need be, but not in Port Smith. The Navy's largest port was not a good place to pick fights, even for the most skilled of fighters.

Once she was sure the men were far gone, she left out the other side of the alley and showed up in a large courtyard with a well-kept gallow in the center. The sight of the noose made her stop in her tracks. All she could see was her father standing there, looking at her with his half-smile, as the hangman pulled the lever and ended his life in one quick drop. She wanted nothing more than to go back to that day and kill the hangman. Kill the guards. Kill every man that had a hand in the murder of her father. As she stood there, the sadness she felt at first became mixed with rage and she slipped into the nearest pub to drown her emotions and mellow her out once more.

...give nothing back.

Evangeline smiled as she lingered on the Black Phoenix, walking around and checking everything out. Most of the crew has gone out to rummage through things and steal with the captain, Anabeth Blackwater, daughter of the previous owner of this ship. The Black Phoenix was definitely a feared ship on the seas. The previous captain had killed many innocent people, making most people flee at the sight of the magnificent sails. She had shivered at the thought, but it was the cost of being a pirate. Killing was definitely a part of being a pirate. Stealing as well, but she didn't go along with the others mostly for the fact that she didn't feel like participating. She had told the captain that she had to plan out the best place to go after looting this place. Evangeline already knew the best route to go, she studied the seas with her dad as her teacher for years. Her dad traveled a lot and very efficiently, since she came from a rich family. Nobody knew about her past life, she has an ongoing lie about her past. The typical 'poor merchant that's actually a great fighter' story. A lot of people believed her. Her crew only knew her as Eva, the Quartermaster. There was no surname, just the short Eva. She had all the riches in the world, yet she decides to run away and be a pirate.

Her parents thought it would be a phase, that she would eventually come back. But in Evangeline's mind, it was permanent. She joined the Black Phoenix and she was going to stay on the ship until mutiny brews, or until the ship sinks in battle. She trained herself in fighting and stealing for a few years, before she joined the crew. Evangeline was kind of close to Anabeth, so she felt bad for lying to her about her past. But the lie was ongoing, it's been months since she started it. If she told Anabeth now, she was sure to be kicked off the ship. "A pirate's life, eh?" Evangeline said to herself, sighing and looking down at the beautiful ocean waters.

A mop of brown, messy hair slowly lifted itself from the cover of the rum barrels. He heard the muffled sounds of footsteps coming out of the deck of ship as he struggled to get up, his head groggy. A terrible hangover, this one.

From the way that the ship had gently stopped it's swaying movement, he guessed that they have landed at a port. Disappointed, the hungover man wanted to join in their 'little heist', but he was out cold last night.

"Tsk, none of the lads bothered to wake me up..." Ronan grumbled, a sweaty hand rummaging through his hair, trying to tidy it up.

The lead Gunsman of the Black Phoenix was an occasional drunk, only when there's a situation that he couldn't handle, a bit emotional or just for fun. And he's been with the crew for more then a few years, or even more. Ronan couldn't remember the exact details since he was barely managing his way up the ladder and onto the main deck. Poking his head through the hole, his eyes temporarily closed itself before opening again due to the wind hitting it.

His vision still a bit blurry, Ronan could make out the main deck and only a few the crew was left behind. At least he wasn't the only one that missed out. He also noticed that the captain was gone as well, drat. Would've been one hell of a heist then.

Grunting, he pulled himself up and onto the deck.

"Good mornin to ye all!" Ronan yelled, stretching his arms broadly before rubbing the back of his head. He should tie his hair into a ponytail, but sadly, his tie disappeared while he was asleep.

Evangeline heard the man's call to everyone and the remaining people on the ship just groaned. They all must've wanted to go along with the captain and steal with her. She was adored by most of the men on the ship, that captain Anabeth. Evangeline didn't mind, she admired Anabeth as well, just not in the same way as the men. Anabeth was a great pirate and a great captain and Evangeline aspired to be like her. It wouldn't be easy for a 'prim and proper' girl like Evangeline, but she had to try due to her facade. She wished that she didn't have to hide anything to do what she loved. Especially about her own past, that was hard to cover with lies. She hasn't even caught on to the pirate slang yet, which leaves her with an awkward smile when not understanding her shipmates when they're talking to her. She may know the seas perfectly and she may know how to steal and fight decently, but she wasn't a full on perfect pirate. Evangeline was still working on the walk and the talk. It was difficult for her to do all of them quickly, so she mainly focused on the lying part. That was the most important part; making her lies believable. She loved being on the seas with this crew, they always sang and laughed and played their little gambling games. It just made Evangeline happy to see those kinds of things.

Evangeline brushed her pink curly hair out of her face and gently placed it behind her ear. She adjusted her eyepatch and looked out into the town from the boat. The crew wasn't coming back and they probably weren't for a while. Maybe she should join them in stealing and drinking at the bar, but maybe she shouldn't. Sighing, she looked back down into the water and stared at the fish swimming around the boat.

Anabeth found her peace at the bottom of a bottle of rum and stole another bottle on her way out. She pulled the cork out of the bottle with her teeth and spat it on the ground, knowing the rum would be gone soon and there was no more need for the cork. She headed back towards the ship, taking what she could on her way there. She passed a drunkard with a nice hat and plucked it off his sleeping head, brushing some of the dirt off before putting it on her head. Upon realizing it was too large, she found another man with a nicer hat and quickly switched the two before he realized what had happened. One passerby's wallet was sticking out just enough for Anabeth to pick it out with ease and slip it into her bosom. She yanked the strands of pearls off a rich lady's neck and disappeared into the darkness before the lady could see who had done it. She came upon a very wealthy man who seemed to enjoy the way she looked, so she went up to him and caressed his cheek and put on quite a show for him as she removed his rings, emptied his pockets, and took his glasses.

She finally reached the ship, half of her new bottle of rum already gone. She swayed a bit once she set foot on the ship, her sea legs failing her under the influence of alcohol, but she quickly regained her footing and strolled across the deck. She noticed many of the men who had left had yet to return, and that was okay with her. She knew they were enjoying themselves, just as she had.

She spotted Ronan looking quite hungover. His hair was a mess and he was obviously not fully awake yet. She handed him the rest of her bottle of rum and simply said, "The best cure for a hangover." She then spotted Eva and asked "Have you plotted our next course? I am eager to see where we shall sail next." While she stood there at the bow of the ship, she decided to lighten her load a bit.

She turned her back to the port and began to unload, so to speak, or earnings. She pulled from her bosom an array of treasures, including everything from shillings to jewelry to even a watch. The ruby medallion, though, she kept on and simply untucked it from her breasts.

Ronan's emerald eyes sparkled as he saw his captain arrive back at the ship, loaded with treasure and pretty sweet-looking hat. She handed hum a bottle of rum and his grin grew wider.

"Well, thank ye Cap'n" the gunsman chortled before gulping down the bottle of rum. He already felt better. As the refreshing rum spilled onto his chin, his eyes trailed to Eva and Anabeth, wondering what the two were doing.

As much as he wanted to join in, he was too busy drinking himself drunk, again.

Evangeline smiled at her captain, as she took out beautiful jewels. She almost laughed at the place where her captain stored them, but it must be normal for a pirate, right? Grab whatever you can and store them wherever you can. Take what you can give nothing back, as they say. "I have. There is this island that they say is beautiful, with beautiful jewels and treasure hidden around the island. There have been settlers on the island for a while, they might've already taken the treasure. We could probably take it from them." Evangeline said, drawing on the map with her finger. The route was pretty easy, passing through some murky, dangerous places, but that's what made it fun. She always dreamed of that island. Inside the ground were riches that no one has ever seen before, and the fruit there was delicious as well. Well, that's what her dad told her when he traveled there. Evangeline's finger rested on the place where the mysterious island would be. She grinned as she looked up at Anabeth. "Let's set sail!" Evangeline yelled to everyone the ship, raising her sword.

Anabeth smiled at the thought of an island full of jewels. "All hands on deck!" she shouted. She leaned over the rail of the ship to count the number of crew members that were returning to the ship. "12..13..14...That's everyone who went ashore." she said to herself. Once everything was loaded up and the ship was once again fully stocked, she stood at the wheel and shouted "Prepare to set sail!"

Her crew knew exactly what to do and didn't need any further instruction to push away from dock. "What's our heading, Eva?" she asked.
