Walking down the crowded streets of Hogsmeade, Adrien couldn't help but feel a little exposed. Deidra followed along beside him, a set of shopping bags floating with them as they walked. "Master Adrien seems extra quiet today," the house elf remarked, not actually looking at the young man. He scoffed a little, dipping his head a little lower. "No need to worry Deidra. I just wanted to avoid my peers is all- get the shopping out of the way."
If he was being honest with himself, he knew that wasn't really necessary. People parted ways when his foreboding presence was around, like a great dam barring the way of a flowing river. Adrien had almost always had that effect on people, and even more so now. A scowl graced his features. Not that he cared of course. The other students were just not worthy of him anyway, even in the precarious position he now found himself.
Deidra had seemed to accept this answer and made no more mention of her masters poor mood. For a house elf, she was less of a servant to Adrien and more of a extremely devoted companion. Raising her master had probably had that effect- Adrien simply didn't normally order her the same way others ordered their elves. And Deidra was different from other elves in that she didn't mind in this either. Usually elves would feel useless or even aimless without the order of their masters. But Deidra was on the younger side when it came to elves and had mostly only ever been with Adrien and their unique situation.
And Adrien- having few true people he considered true equals- didn't really notice the difference. The dried leaves falling from their parent trees crunched lightly beneath his feet, the crinkle almost seeming to release the smell of soft decay and that mild hint of spice that always associated with autumn. He paused outside The Three Broomsticks and looked inside the windows. The little pub was packed with students and teachers, as well as a few locals, drinking butterbeer and socializing on their day off. For a moment, he considered passing by, but a familiar pair of faces caught his attention.
A smile twitched at the edges of his mouth and, against the soft squeak of protest from Deidra and possibly his better judgement, he dismissed the house elf and entered the pub, making his way towards the back wall where a girl sat by herself.

Rosaline rubbed her fingertip thoughtfully along the edge of the mug of butterbeer, the thick foamy substance sticking to her finger. Her yellow robes were hanging loosely on her shoulders in a small effort to cool down from the warmth of the thick pub atmosphere. A few of her fellow students passed and waved, to which she would flash her dazzling smile and wave back. Her friendliness and cheerful nature ensured that she would probably always have her pick of friends, but at the moment she was only waiting on one.
Where is she? I know I'm a little early, but she knows that... Her dark eyes roved again over the other patrons, keeping a lookout for another girl about her age. Rosaline was looking for a head of curly brown hair and a pair of shining blue eyes. Her best friend and fellow Hufflepuff Elaine had promised to meet her here, but no sign of her yet. Instead, she saw another face. Bright green eyes met hers and a heavy voice spoke up. "Hi Rosa."
Adrien wasn't particularly cheerful in any way, but that didn't prevent Rosaline from smiling warmly and waving him over. "Hi Adrien! Haven't seen you around in a little while." The large Slytherin slid into one of the stools across from her and rested his arms on the table. He nodded before responding. "Busy, I guess. What are you doing in here on your own?" She could see that something else was bugging him- more than usual anyway. He was always that kind of distanced and brooding, but he'd been even less available of late. "I'm just waiting on Elaine. You haven't seen her around have you?"
He shook his head and glanced about the pub on his own, looking about the students with his own keen eyes. The three of them were friends, though it was more like Rosaline and Elaine were best friends and Adrien had somehow deigned them worthy to be in his company years ago on the Hogwarts Express. They had grown closer, in their own way, and all shared a unique friendship. But this year, things had started to change- Rosaline could feel it.
