Walking down the crowded streets of Hogsmeade, Adrien couldn't help but feel a little exposed. Deidra followed along beside him, a set of shopping bags floating with them as they walked. "Master Adrien seems extra quiet today," the house elf remarked, not actually looking at the young man. He scoffed a little, dipping his head a little lower. "No need to worry Deidra. I just wanted to avoid my peers is all- get the shopping out of the way."

If he was being honest with himself, he knew that wasn't really necessary. People parted ways when his foreboding presence was around, like a great dam barring the way of a flowing river. Adrien had almost always had that effect on people, and even more so now. A scowl graced his features. Not that he cared of course. The other students were just not worthy of him anyway, even in the precarious position he now found himself.

Deidra had seemed to accept this answer and made no more mention of her masters poor mood. For a house elf, she was less of a servant to Adrien and more of a extremely devoted companion. Raising her master had probably had that effect- Adrien simply didn't normally order her the same way others ordered their elves. And Deidra was different from other elves in that she didn't mind in this either. Usually elves would feel useless or even aimless without the order of their masters. But Deidra was on the younger side when it came to elves and had mostly only ever been with Adrien and their unique situation.

And Adrien- having few true people he considered true equals- didn't really notice the difference. The dried leaves falling from their parent trees crunched lightly beneath his feet, the crinkle almost seeming to release the smell of soft decay and that mild hint of spice that always associated with autumn. He paused outside The Three Broomsticks and looked inside the windows. The little pub was packed with students and teachers, as well as a few locals, drinking butterbeer and socializing on their day off. For a moment, he considered passing by, but a familiar pair of faces caught his attention.

A smile twitched at the edges of his mouth and, against the soft squeak of protest from Deidra and possibly his better judgement, he dismissed the house elf and entered the pub, making his way towards the back wall where a girl sat by herself.

Rosaline rubbed her fingertip thoughtfully along the edge of the mug of butterbeer, the thick foamy substance sticking to her finger. Her yellow robes were hanging loosely on her shoulders in a small effort to cool down from the warmth of the thick pub atmosphere. A few of her fellow students passed and waved, to which she would flash her dazzling smile and wave back. Her friendliness and cheerful nature ensured that she would probably always have her pick of friends, but at the moment she was only waiting on one.

Where is she? I know I'm a little early, but she knows that... Her dark eyes roved again over the other patrons, keeping a lookout for another girl about her age. Rosaline was looking for a head of curly brown hair and a pair of shining blue eyes. Her best friend and fellow Hufflepuff Elaine had promised to meet her here, but no sign of her yet. Instead, she saw another face. Bright green eyes met hers and a heavy voice spoke up. "Hi Rosa."

Adrien wasn't particularly cheerful in any way, but that didn't prevent Rosaline from smiling warmly and waving him over. "Hi Adrien! Haven't seen you around in a little while." The large Slytherin slid into one of the stools across from her and rested his arms on the table. He nodded before responding. "Busy, I guess. What are you doing in here on your own?" She could see that something else was bugging him- more than usual anyway. He was always that kind of distanced and brooding, but he'd been even less available of late. "I'm just waiting on Elaine. You haven't seen her around have you?"

He shook his head and glanced about the pub on his own, looking about the students with his own keen eyes. The three of them were friends, though it was more like Rosaline and Elaine were best friends and Adrien had somehow deigned them worthy to be in his company years ago on the Hogwarts Express. They had grown closer, in their own way, and all shared a unique friendship. But this year, things had started to change- Rosaline could feel it.

“Always take care of him, for me won’t you el?” She replayed the words over in her mind as she walked with her fingers in her robes. Crinkling her nose, she should have been at the pub where her best friend would be waiting. Yet, here sh was smiling at people she knew and at the people she didn’t as she stood outside WEASLEY’S JOKE SHOP waiting for her younger brother a first year student to come back out with her change.
It wasn’t like the two, had been gone from home before. Both very much muggle born, the two of they didn’t have each other would slightly be lost. Or that’s how Elaine felt anyway, her brother was fitting in rather nicely with his other first year peers. It was harder sometimes to remember they came from the same family.
In this special place she sadly just couldn’t pull out her phone, and call Rosaline as much as she wanted to, those things weren’t really allowed. Her brother had insisted she say outside, saying with his very high pitched voice, that he didn’t want his friends to think he wasn’t cool.
Yet, just like clock work She stuck her own arm out for the change, as he and his friends walked past. The heavy thump of the coins in her pocket, reminding her, they weren’t even in the United States anymore. “Be good.” She warned him, as she watched her younger brother with his blonde hair saunter away, with a large smile on his face.
Rolling her eyes, she sighed talking to herself. “That boy! If she’s left already and gone back to school...” lifting her robes up, to step over the large puddles that lined the ugly cobble stones, she was off.

Adrien sighed a bit, avoiding Rosaline's vaguely interested glances as he pondered where Elaine could be. He tried to tell himself that the only reason he felt upset was that he'd have to stick around for longer- wasn't gentleman like to leave Rosa alone- but really, in the back of his mind, he wanted to see her. It had been a mostly busy semester and as it was coming to close, he suddenly felt he hadn't spent enough time with either of the ladies who kept most of his company.

"You off in space there, Addie?" Rosa's voice had a teasing curl to it as she used the nickname she knew he hated. He scowled at her but shook his head. "No, I'm just tired. Do you think she'll take much longer?" His feelings of goodwill were now fading a little is the face of Rosaline's curious looks and that mild smirk of entertainment. Even in her regal features, there was some side of mischievousness to the prim girl.

With a shrug, Rosaline leaned back in her chair and glanced around again. "She should have been here a little while ago. I know she had to do something with her brother, but she said it wouldn't take long." In her own mind, Rosaline knew she probably should have known better. Elaine was usually very punctual, but her younger brother was another thing. He seemed to throw a wrench into her day to day life, and Rosaline couldn't always help with that.

Looking back to her companion across the table, she noted that his mask of disinterest had returned. Obviously, not before she could note the initial transformation. Something had been off about Adrien for the past...well, she couldn't say how long for certain. He'd disappeared for a bit and the last few times she'd seen him, he'd been even more distant. He also seemed to be paler and his eyes were sallow in their sockets. She wanted to say something about it, but didn't know how to bring it up.

She let it go for the time being and took another look around. The little bell above the door chimed in the din of the building and her eyes were drawn there. A grin broke out over her face and she raised her hand to wave. "Elaine! Over here!"

How exactly do you tell your best friend, that you and your other best friend were actually sneaking out to see each other late at night? Or that, you had a very dark, red mark on the inside of your neck from a very certain friend?
Oh, you didn’t. You kept those things hidden, just like he was keeping his sunken eyes and downcast excuses away from you.
Moving out of the way, of a very busy waitress Elaine plopped down in the wooden chair between the two of her friends. One smelling like pumpkin the other smelling like, she wasn’t exactly sure what is was, a mix between clean laundry and arrow root.
Pulling her curls to one side, Elaine placed her hands firmly onto the table. Her pale skin looking even whiter against the dark table. “Sorry, Nick you both know how he likes to take his time..”
