A note on equipment:

This is what your soldier will have based on historical standard issue gear of the time:

France:

Uniform:

Horizon blue clothes

puttees which are tightly wrapped bandages worn on feet.

Adrian M1915 helmet, first metal helmet, provided some protection from shrapnel.

Rifle: Berthier Rifle Model 1907/15: 3 round magazine, bolt action, effective at a couple hundred yards (Exact number being researched)

It's important to note that the French were in a bad supply situation, as all links to the main line except for a light railroad had been cut by the Germans prior to the attack. Keep this in mind

Germany:

Uniform:

Uniform: Dark gray clothing, provided better camouflage

Picklehaube Helmet: Leather, sporting a large spike coming out of the top. It provided virtually no protection, but hey it looked cool.

Rifle: Gewehr 98: 5 round clip, bolt action, range same as Berthier.

Bio: Franz was born in the industrial city of Stuttgart. His father was a factory worker, who when having a son raised him to be a soldier in his nation's military. At age 17 Franz left to enlist in the army, where he has served up until the beginning of the war. He had managed to survive through the initial invasion thru Belgium and France. Living through the murderous first month of the great war. He had fought in the Ypres Salient, and now begins the grueling Verdun Campaign in the German Empire's name.

Also, Some fixes on your german soldier gear,

Uniform: M1915/16 Bluse

Helmet: M1916 Stahlhelm

Just trying to help, but German soldiers in the Verdun campaign would use this uniform, and the German Army stopped using PickelHuabes for enlisted in 1915 because enemy machine gunners could see the spike right before they would charge and would result in heavy casualties. Also the Stahlhelm was made of steel and was better protection against shrapnel.

I didn't think the Stalnhelm was produced enough by Feb. 1916, thanks for the help, though!!!!

When the Verdun campaign started, all troops in the campaign were issued M1916 Stahhelms as a field test. They didn't produce enough for the other offense until around summer of 1916. But the Verdun campaign did use them. I hope this helps.
