Restoration Day celebrations have been starting to wind down in the Wosten Urbzone. Turnout at the speeches and parades was disappointingly low, although the regularly-scheduled holiday remains in effect.

Despite most people having the day off, you are still on duty as a distribution officer for the Civic Logistics Service, tasked with handing out state-issued food at one of Wosten's several ration terminals.

You are currently wearing the uniform of a CivLog worker, which consists of a peaked cap, brown uniform and orange armband. You have a utility belt that contains a few pouches, as well as a clip for your radio, set to the local CivLog frequency.

You are currently inside of your work booth. The shutters are closed, but they will be opened once the morning shift is ready to begin. Old RatPak dispensers are lined up behind you, and three have been marked for today's operations. The RatPak variant that has always been served is the STANDARD ration pack, which consists of a tin of the tasteless, bacterially-derived nutrient sludge known as Nutra, along with a section of cold, butterless mashed potatoes, a bag of mushroom crisps, and finally, a serving of Varm meat from the rat farms. In the SEAFOOD SPECIAL ration packs, Varm is replaced with a serving of meat harvested from the "scorpsters" that are hauled in from the depths of the ocean. Finally, the ever-popular (but limited in supply) CHICKEN SPECIAL is the package that probably most resembles a pre-Ashfall meal, with sliced chicken serving as the meat portion; it even includes a tiny seasoning packet.

The lines have already increased to the hundreds at the various booths, each separated by different fences. Assisted by the regular police, CivLog guards patrol the area and make sure that orderly lines are maintained, each of them carrying an automatic rifle and wearing their distinctive berets.

Your equipment is in all place, including the Ration Point display screen and the ticket feed system used to activate the proper dispensers. The clock is counting down, and you have a few minutes to prepare yourself before the shift starts.
