The End of the United States
The United States as we know it has collapsed. The 2016 election had brought the American people joy for the first year, but after that, everything crashed. How one man seemed to surpass even the stickler Congress was unbelievable to everyone. What was meant to be a foolproof government power restriction system, ended up being a target for exploiting their flaws. When PRESIDENT JOHN MOREGO rose to power, he had promised better things to come to the United States of America. Reform programs were supposed to continue, better medical for the general public, educations were supposed to be better funded, et cetera. And for a while, they were. Miraculously, they were.
PRESIDENT MOREGO was loved by the people. His first term (four years) went exceptionally well. The feedback he received was astounding and The United States grew and developed as a country. They were quickly rising up the ladder to become leaders in the medical, science, business and economics fields. PRESIDENT MOREGO was so popular and influential that prior to the next election, he was able to persuade Congress to repeal the 22nd Amendment to allow himself to run for another term. The man gained influence wherever he was seen or heard. It was almost unnatural how charismatic and lovable he was, but also threatening and terrifying.
But when MOREGO'S third term of presidency began, things started to change. Some of the more opinionated and influential political powers within the nation started to bend to the new radial and near paranoid ideas of the president. The United States went into a high security status, closing their doors to several countries that they had trades and foreign policies with for many years. Closing off borders and ports lead to various economical issues--none of which were ever fully addressed. Within two years, the American democratic government fell to the pressures put on by it's people. Everything that had been established in the ten years of MOREGO’s reign was being undone minute by minute. Most political supports stepped down in fear for their lives when the president literally found a way to hold the country hostage.
PRESIDENT MOREGO was assassinated June 15th, 2027 by a member of the Five Star Rebellion, which consisted of three eastern states and two western states. The Vice President, Stacy Lauman, was forced to take the position of president. She was very reluctant, but took the position regardless. However, within a matter of months, the country was so far off the deep end that it fell into a state of anarchy.
The Divide -- In Come the Eight Petal Lotus
Several of the one percent had foreseen this unfortunate event and secretly drew together a fail-safe plan to keep the country from spiraling into complete ruin. Politicians, corporate bigheads, even multi-million and multi-billionaires came together to form the Eight Petal Lotus-- an organization that was meant to control a chaotic mess by dividing the country into sectors so that it could be governed easier. Each one of the eight figureheads would take a region and create their sector. By 2028, there had been eight sectors established:
Each of which, had their own ideas of what to do with their sector. There was a major migration pattern from 2028 to 2030, where people would cross through checkpoints of various sectors, attempting to find the one that suited their beliefs the best. Regulations between sectors were relatively loose during this period, allowing migration to occur. It wasn't until 2036 that each sector were able to flourish in their own right, and clearly show their strengths and weaknesses.
