Fantasy Alchemist's Stone

Ancient History

There have been many legends throughout the history of Ithlul, such as the tale of four knights, the Tale of Rings, and the many stories of the gods. Most know such tales, however, everyone knows the tale of the Alchemist's Stone. Before our world, the god Rilos began his first ever project in stonesmithing: the Alchemist's Stone. He worked day and night on his project, using every element known to man. Finally, after hundreds of years, he finished his creation. The stone was able to do two things: grant any wish, and transform any material into another, no matter how rare or common. Rilos knew of the dangers his creation would lead to, and because of this, he used it once, to become the king of the gods, then hid it away where no one would ever find it. However, the gods had known of his plan, and as such began fighting for the creation.

The War of the Gods was a thousand year period in which god fought god, brother fought brother, mother fought son. Gods were killed, gods were resurrected, the entire period was full of grief and sadness among the gods. Rilos knew he needed to win, and, deciding his cause was important enough, retrieved the stone again and created creatures, mortal ones that could be produced quickly, but were by no means as strong as the gods. He created armies of Humans, Orcs, Dwarves, Gnomes, Elves, Demons, Angels, and more. Rilos won the war, and promoted each of the gods who had supported him to a position of power. He hid the stone away again, for the last time. After this, he set the many races free and created a new world for them: Ithlul.

Each race created its own cities and towns, which interacted each other of their own accord. Humans spread throughout most of the world, being the most varied race. Elves settled in the forests and snow covered tundras of Ithlul, separating into the Drow (snow elves) and the Wood Elves. Orcs created encampments and fortresses in the desert, as they required little water to fuel themselves. Dwarves and Gnomes combined into one technologically advanced civilization that settled in snow-capped mountains. Demons desended to the depths of Ithlul, only coming out to fight and breed. Angels rose to the heavens and were allowed to join the gods, though some decided to stay with mortals and live among them. Various other sentient creatures settled throughout these civilizations, creating an incredibly varied landscape.

The Beginning of the War

Years passed as the races lived in harmony. The gods watched over the mortals with interest, finding their various exploits amusing. Some intervened from time to time, others decided to stay out of the creature's affairs. What really peaked their interest, though, was when the War started.

The Orcs of the desert began instilling strict laws throughout their land, including what type of people could take certain jobs and how one should be married. Human and Elf settlements began arguing with the Orcs, finding the growing control over their people to be unfair. Tension grew between the Orcs and the Human-Elf alliance until, one day, the Orcs attacked a human settlement, leaving no survivors. This began the War. The Dwarves and Gnomes joined the Human-Elf alliance, which had named itself "The Kingdom Alliance". The Demons joined the Orcs, and rose from their earthly cities. Despite the Kingdom Alliance having double the amount of support behind it, the Orcs' military genius and the Demons' ability to reproduce at such an alarming rate meant that each sided matched each other with equal power. Various people of all races switched sides based on their beliefs, meaning that Humans siding with the Orcs and Demons was not unheard of, and Demons who believed in less control often joined the Kingdom Alliance.

Modern History

Over a hundred years have passed since the beginning of the War. Neither side has gained an advantage. Recently, through, both have had a sudden realization: the legend of the Alchemist's Stone is true, that has been confirmed, and the power of the stone is beyond imagination, so whichever side that could get that would be the one to win the War.

The World of Ithlul

The Kingdom Alliance has a varied architecture, depending on which race's cities you inhabit, however as a general rule, Kingdom Alliance architecture has a more refined and clean aspect when compared to the Orcs' and Demons'. Stone bricks, towers, triangular rooftops, and the like are much more common. Elves, however, tend to use wood more and houses in trees tend to be a common theme. Dwarves and Gnomes use a lot of metal, however they also tend to use machines and gears to try and improve their buildings, though with mixed results. Humans seem to enjoy stone buildings and crowded cities.

Orc and Demon architecture is identical: mostly wooden shacks, outposts, and guard towers that look as if they were built within just a few hours (as they usually are). Spikes are common, as both races enjoy being prepared for attacks at any time.

In terms of technology, the Kingdom Alliance has a large advantage. Dwarves and Gnomes have built rifles and pistols, both of which are very loud, however always kill with the first shot. Bombs, mines, and other explosives have been nearly perfected by both sides of the war. In general, the technology of Ithlul can be compared to steampunk, but with a fantastical twist in its aesthetics.

Rules

1. No godmodding of any kind, your character will be denied if there is any.

2. You CANNOT steal a character from any franchise, meaning you cannot have a character who is directly from an established series of books, video games, etc. Inspiration is fine, of course.

3. Be creative! A Paladin with an issue with a certain god, a kleptomaniac thief who still tries to do the right thing, a mage who has studied magic all his life but always messes up his spells, things like this make for an interesting and fun story.

4. At least three lines to a post, no one liners. Also, proper grammar is REQUIRED, so periods, proper punctuation, etc. is expected.

5. Try to post at least every two days, I'd like to keep this RP going for a long time.

6. Curse words are allowed, just don't take it too far.

7. Romance is allowed, but fade to black if needed.

8. If you have read the rules, post 'Rilos' creation will end it all.' in the 'Other' section

9. Violence is allowed and will for sure happen, so keep that in mind.

10. Our characters will be searching for the Alchemist's Stone, if you didn't catch that from the summary.

11. There will be 5 people total in the RP, including me, so I will only be able to allow 4 people to join.

12. Any fantasy race or creature is allowed, as long as they aren't overpowered in any way.

Connor fiddled with the note in his hands. The messenger had said to come to the royal palace, and now here he was. There were few stone steps leading to the large, wooden doorway. The palace stood at least seventy feet tall, featuring elaborate glass windows and neat stone designs. Shadow approached his owner and examined the building as well. "Shadow." After a moment, both wolf and human head the screech of a hawk fill the surrounding area. Soon, Connor felt a light weight rest itself on his shoulder. "Talion." Despite the odd looks he got from palace workers, he smiled at his two friends. They'd always been there for him, and he would hope that they always would be. The hunter decided it was time and walked up the stairs. He reached to open the door, but stopped. He thought about the note he had been given. 'There are five of you total, wait for the other four.' Connor sighed and took a seat next to the doors, with Shadow lying next to him and Talion looking out over the human capital.

Sebxe looked at the paper in his hands as he walked, some people around were either giving him strange looks or a wide berth, and he couldn't bring himself to care at that point. "There are five of you total, wait for the other four." Sebxe looked over the strange note, noticing that a small map was printed on the back, showing just where he was supposed to meet the others. Eventually he spotted a palace, which looked rather similar to the one in the map, and the gnome made his way to the gate. Noticing a human with a wolf beside him and a hawk on his shoulders, Sebxe wondered if the stranger was another of the 'chosen five' for whatever mission they were to be given. Sebxe spoke when he was at a fairly comfortable speaking distance from the stranger, "Hello there." His voice almost chimed as he spoke, it was melodic and soft, but easy to listen to and understand despite the mask slightly muffling it.

Connor looked up and saw a shorter man standing in front of him. He wore a mask that covered his entire face, something that both puzzled and intrigued the hunter. Talion tilted his head while examining the new person, while Shadow growled and nearly got up from the ground, stopped by Connor, who put a hand on his back to stop him. The taller of the two men pulled out the piece of paper he had been given and showed it to the other. "You here for this?"

Sebxe saw the man hold back the growling wolf and he relaxed a slight bit. He held up his own paper with a nod. "Indeed. Do you, happen to know what this is about, or why we are the ones who were chosen?" Sebxe stood quite still, wary of the aggressive wolf by the man's side and he tilted his head slightly towards the other, showing that he indeed was listening and giving him the gnome's attention. Though despite that, Sebxe was getting rather hot and wishing for some shade as he generally stayed in cooler climates than the human city.

"No." Connor shrugged. Many things had been happening over the past few weeks, from spies infiltrating enemy ranks to villages being captured, the war never ended and its events never stopped effecting people. There had been the legend everyone talked about, but he highly doubted that anyone would be recruited from outside the military to do anything about it. "All I know is that five people were given this note, which says to meet here, at the palace." Connor thought for a moment, trying to think of a way to figure things out. "How did you receive your piece of paper?"

Sebxe was momentarily surprised at the question, but answered immediatly,"A courier, from the Council of the Alliance." It probably wasn't what the man was looking for, but Sebxe was damned if he was going to tell a stranger about.. then... Yet he didn't continue and Sebxe unconciously let his left hand wander to the sheath of his whip on his thigh as the memories assaulted his mind slowly.

Connor nodded understandingly and let his eyes wander for a bit. That wasn't going to help his investigation, so he decided to forget about it for the time being. Shadow's low growl interrupted his thoughts. His eyes darted to where Shadow was staring, and saw that the man had his hand next to a weapon. Connor eyed his suspiciously, and moved his hand a bit closer to his axe, just in case. "Everything alright?"

Sebxe heard the growl of the wolf and nearly flinched away, hearing the tall man's "Everything alright?" snapped him out of his memory and the masked man shook his head to completely rid of it, even though it was futile. Moving his hand away from the sheathed whip Sebxe nodded, voice slightly quieter than normal. "Yes, everything's fine." The masked man was still tense and discreetly looked around to search for anything unusual or suspicious.

Not to far from where 'The Five' were to meet, a shadow watched the encounter that was happening below her. Aurai, perched gracefully on the ledge of the castle's roof, stretched out her aching wings. She had been flying for what seemed like weeks in a attempt to reach the location she had received from the back of her invitation card. Supposedly there were to be two others, besides herself and the gnome and human below, who would join in on whatever it was that they had been invited to do.

If Aurai was right in her speculations, those who were chosen were only picked for their skill. For knowing the alliance, they had to be only putting together this group for one reason, to tilt the tide of battle in their favor. While the cloaked angel wasn't a battle hardened warrior, her unique magic abilities would make her quite the formidable opponent.

Now, her gaze drifting over the two who had been picked below, Aurai stood up on the castle ledge, balancing with perfect ease. Then in one swift movement she let herself fall. The wind brushed heavily against her pitch black wings as she came in for a landing, not stumbling once. She now stood before the human and gnome with wings tucked behind her and a dark cloak covering over her body. "Have you two been given this?" She asked, flashing the note that a messenger of the alliance had given her.

Sebxe watched the newcomer as she came suddenly and flashed the card, holding up his own he nodded and observed her cloaked form carefully. She was hiding something, and not very well given the glances in their direction by civilians passing by.

Connor's eyes widened slightly at the site, but he quickly changed his expression back to his serious gaze. He grabbed the piece of paper and showed it to the woman. The shorter man did the same. Talion examined the newcomer extensively, though Connor could not tell why. After a moment of thought, he realized that he had not introduced himself to the short man, or to the newcomer. He looked at them both. "Connor."

Sebxe looked up at the sudden word from the man, and realized, it was his name. Then the masked man nodded slowly to Connor. "Sebxe." He chimed in, honestly, what was the probability of either of them recognizing his name from the Alliance's Death Roster or any mission records. Afterall, that was about a century ago when he had been one of the Alliance forces. Then Sebxe began to wonder, how old were these people? Why were they summoned? Why was he summoned, he was supposed to be dead afterall.

Eyes narrowed, the angel of night contemplated the words that the two men had both said. Because Aurai had spent most of her life just watching the world from above, she was not familiar with all of Ithlul's diverse languages. After a moment going through what she knew of Ithlul's main language Aurai came to the conclusion that they were stating their names and blushed in embarrassment. How could she have not noticed that quicker? In that moment she felt slightly stupid, but what would you expect from someone who technically had only been on the world for a little more than 2 years.

With a genuine smile, both from her realization of the two stranger's names and to try and be friendly, the winged girl pronounced her name proudly, "I'm Aurai". As she spoke she also stepped into some shadows that were being cast by the large castle next to them and dropped the hood of her cloak. A brilliant and soft face appeared that had been hidden beneath the cloak, one with misty sapphire eyes and dark hair that fell over her shoulders.

Of course Aurai hadn't noticed that several of the civilians were glancing towards her and now the other two. This was most likely because the angel had just flown down from the castle's roof to join the group. Currently though her black wings lay tucked back underneath her cloak hiding them from eyesight as if she hadn't just shown them off in public.

"I grow tired of this petty game!" Beredor bellowed, sweeping the pieces off the game board with his arm. It was a derivative of chess, with a few more odd, manipulable rules. It was not for him, as was plainly visible. But he had other business to attend to, and his divine patron could play games with someone else.

"Do not fail me, Rage. As the Stone once was used, so it shall be used again. Insure it is used correctly."

These were the last words the Angel heard before his very skin immolated, reducing him to a pile of ash. A ball of red light, a miniature star, was left in his wake. It hovered alone for a moment, fizzling and sparking, then plummeted out of the skies, down to Ithlul. The will of the gods guided him to his destination, a palace currently inhabited by his would-be partners.

The star continued to shoot down, a steadily growing ball of flame. It crashed through one tower of the palace, obliterating the upper level and leaving little more than rubble in it's wake. The star settled a few feet from the group before taking shape. As the star fizzled out of existence, Beredor was left kneeling in it's place, a bright pair of flaming wings erupting from his back. He stood, dusted himself off, then turned to face the others as the wings faded out.

"Rage has come. The gods are with you, mortals." He said, looking each of them over.

Sebxe turned back with slight alarm after the mysterious woman spoke her name in greeting, a man, no, angel crashed to the earth, speaking of gods. "Well, uh, hello to you.. to?" He didn't know how to respond to the rather abrupt enterance but the masked gnome felt the need to answer to the angel. Sebxe glanced to the others, searching their reactions to the fiery angel which had caused a bit of destruction. Speaking of which, the tower he collided with was crumbling down and a bit of the rubble was slowly heading their way.

Glancing up, Aurai witnessed as a ball of fire flew down from the heavens and landed next to the three. Unlike the man named Sebxe who stood next to her, the dark angel was not surprised in the least bit. Rather than jumping back her fascination drew her closer.

Back in heaven the woman had seen many strange and weird supernatural occurrences. So something as odd as a flickering flame appearing before them and turning into a burning angel wasn't exactly 'out of the normal' for her. But what was strange was that the fiery angel had mentioned the gods and not only that, but he had also just labeled her as a mortal. While it was true Aurai now looked human with her ebony wings hidden deep inside her cloak, she still felt wounded by the remark. Stepping forward, but still keeping herself within the shadows cast off from the castle, the angel of night growled back at the fiery man, "What do you mean 'mortals'? I am no mortal!" However her words did little to prove this as she still appeared mortal on the outside of her garments.

Beredor glared at the woman, his eyes darkening. "You carry not the mark of heaven. You're mortal, or tainted. I care not which, but you are no angel to me." He replied, his eyes flicking over the woman.

"Pardon the damage. The gods pay no heed to mortal constructions. They are impermanent, weak, and monuments to the folly of mortal emotions." He said, gazing at the bits of rubble raining from the sky. He threw one hand in the air, producing a wall of flame above them that vaporized whatever rubble reached them.

Connor and his animal companions simply stared at the sight before them. A woman with wings, a shorter fellow, and some kind of being sent from the heavens were all in front of him at this very moment. Four of them had arrived, as it seemed, so that meant that only one was left. He decided to stay quiet for the time being, intent on learning more. The young man also had to wonder as to when the doors would open. Hopefully soon, he was getting rather curious as to what in the world would call upon this group.

-Daniel Frost-

Daniel loved seeing new things and here he was in a city full of attractions. Daniel was disappointed, however it vanished when his curiosity went back to the mission at hand, 'I wonder who will be there.' Toast (Daniel's pet and companion) was following close behind but took upon himself to sniff everything.

Daniel looked down at the paper the man had given him. "There's a map here Toast." Toast barked in reply. "This must be where were supposed to meet, its only around the corner." Daniel said. Toast had already wandered off again and was sniffing an old pair of boots next to a shoe stand.

Daniel followed the map and approached the 5 other members of the team. "Hi. My name is Daniel Frost." Daniel said readjusting his blindfold.

(Bump)

Taking off her cloak entirely now, Aurai's wing's unfolded from her back and she crossed her arms over her chest. Normally she preferred not to be anywhere close to sunlight unless she kept the cover on her body, but the woman's wings had begun to ache again from being kept too tightly against her back and from the journey she had made to come together with these strangers. With her large black wings prominently now displayed the angel felt prouder of who she was. Hiding her wings always left her feeling like a stranger to this world.

As a wall of fire leaped above the group's heads, thanks to Beredor, Aurai grunted a response back at the fiery man. "And who are you to judge me as one who has not been touched by the gods? I've flown round' the gates of the purest heaven, dined with the creators of our kind, and sang with the divine in the clouds above. From the roots of my being, I'll be damned if you cannot see the angel within me." Stopping to gather her thoughts, the fallen one wondered if the rest of her company was as confused as most people from Ithlul tend to be after experiencing the gods sending down an angel. It was odd that this angel of flame had decided to come down to the land so close to the eye of the public, but then again she assumed that this was not really her concern. After all she did recall him saying that 'the gods were with' them. If that was true then it was easy to guess that this man of fire was here to aid the group on their adventures.

"While it is true I can no longer touch the golden gates of the skies above and perhaps you may even call me tainted, I am as much an angel as I was back in the realm of the gods", Aurai continued on with her speech still watching the rubble burn as it came into contact with the wall of flames. Then she was quiet, her eyes shifting away from the fire and Beredor and onto a odd looking inhabitant of Ithlul who was walking towards the group. As a blindfolded man who appeared quite icy walked closer and introduced himself, the angel of night watched with interest. This was a species on Ithlul she had yet to meet.

-Daniel Frost-

Daniel turned his attention to the angelic figure as she gave her speech, "Wow, are you an angel?" Daniel asked fascinated. Daniel had heard tales of angels granting miracles to the common races that lived with one another, However most of Daniel's kind resented and didn't believe in such creatures. Perhaps Daniel's kind was sore that they had not payed them a visit. Daniel's people have suffered much, Then a thought came to Daniel. 'If angels can grant wishes and perform miracles... Then maybe she can remove my curse. I will ask her when I get the chance.. I don't want these people to start hating me like my village. I still haven't gotten to know them yet.'

Daniel smiled, "That was a silly question for me to ask. Of course your angel, I wear a blindfold and even I can see this. Truly your magnificence exceeds the tales. Never in my life would I thought I would get a chance to meet one." Daniel complimented warmly.

A frozen man now, too. Connor had to wonder the reasoning as to why they, of all people, had been chosen for whatever this was. The wooden doors opened suddenly and slammed against the walls. Talion , Shadow, and Connor all stared at the doors. I guess we head in... Connor got up and entered the room. It was large, with a long wooden table in the middle. Multiple chairs ran along the sides of the table, enough to fit at least fifteen. The room itself was mostly stone with a carpet stretching to each end of the place. Multiple paintings, weapons, and statues stood as decorations.
