Mysterious Character
Welcome to Calsyren Academy

The world is full of talented individuals. Some are born with good looks, some are very dexterous, some are good with a blade. Music and artwork, strategists and warmongers--everyone has something that they are good at, and some are blessed with wonderful genetics. These people are normal, and tend to like their niches in life. They like to be without fear. These people live in naivety, and if they ever find a part of the other world with gifted individuals, they tend to shun them, report them, or like the witch trials of old, burn them at the stake.

The world is also full of more unique races of individuals. These races tend to blend in with normal society quite well, as the society is belligerent and does not like to see the aspects that make individuals unique. These races tend to be more accepting of the more unique properties that individuals may posses.

Then there are the gifted individuals--those who by some lucky chance seem to have abilities that transcend the racial bases, those who can manipulate the very nature of things around them. These individuals are known as gifted, and if found out, manhunts ensue. Granted, the man hunts no longer focus upon finding them and burning them at the stake, but one could consider their fate if caught much, much worse. People cannot stand to be around Gifted, or attack them outright--and once the government gets wind, they attempt to capture and experiment with them in order to try to harness these abilities, or to understand how they work, usually resulting in a long, drawn-out, torturous death. So what does an individual do when they find out that they have these gifts?

They receive a letter in blue ink:

Dear _______,

We are pleased to announce that you have been accepted into Calsyren Academy.

Calsyren Academy is an exclusive school for gifted individuals, such as yourself. We've been around for thousands of years, and have taught many such individuals to enhance and better control their abilities. We have been monitoring you for a good amount of time, and have determined that you fit the criteria for acceptance at this school.

We have grown interested in your abilities, and hope to further develop, empower, and allow you to fine-tune your control over them. We understand that it's difficult to be different, but it is our differences that make us unique and set us apart.

Here at Calsyren, we are dedicated to you, as students, rather than having a teaching agenda. Each course is self-paced to help you both better understand your abilities and to help you fit in when your time with Calsyren is complete.

We hope to see you soon.

Headmaster: Rysdan Elson

The letter comes with just an address, almost as if they know you will accept and will meet them there.

Upon arriving at the academy, there are people there to greet you, everyone is ushered into a large auditorium for orientation. At the door, there are pamphlets for the rules of the academy, maps to the different sections, and ID cards, which are somehow individualized even though each student has arrived at random intervals. There is also what appears to be a removable tattoo inside each one. On the back, there is a disclaimer:

This tattoo is required in the academy. It will not come off until you graduate from Calsyren. Please apply thoughtfully, wherever you please. To apply, remove the plastic cover, and get the backing wet. Press against your skin for 30 seconds.

This tattoo is small enough to fit on the back of your hand, though it seems that only a few staff members have made choices to display the symbol openly, rather than hiding it.

After orientation, everyone goes up on stage to meet the headmaster and get their room assignment. The headmaster seems very attentive, and introduces himself individually to everyone, memorizing their names as they come up to him. Before they leave, one message is clear:

Welcome to Calsyren!

  • Leina Gallette

~=~In time you slow, yet I begin to quicken...You will just stand still~=~

"Nix, quit bouncing!"Leina rolled her eyes while watching her brother. Nico was excitable sometimes, and this place was going to teach him all about himself. They were supposed to have all the answers. Leina buried her nose back in the book she was reading. Soon, the a strange gate came into sight--something that she might not have noticed were she not looking for it.

"Oh good, we're here. Maybe some of that excitement will turn to fear. Ooh! That rhymed!" Leina put her book away as a smile came to her face--she absolutely loved rhymes! Even lame ones. The door to their car was opened, and there were a couple of female staff members to greet her and her brother. It seemed all too quick; they were ushered through the gates and escorted to the auditorium in the main school building. Her and her brother were handed pamphlets--which she didn't open, instead paying attention to orientation. The orientation didn't last long, but soon they were called up to get their room numbers and meet the headmaster.

"Hello, Headmaster. I'm Leina, this is Nico--he goes by Nix most of the time." She said with a sheepish grin. The headmaster in front of him simply bowed before them, and introduced himself as Rysdan Elson. He bade them a good day, and let them know they would be seeing him again soon. That totally wouldn't be creepy...right? No, they were sure it was part of his regular checkups.

Leina and her brother were ushered out of the auditorium almost as soon as they came in, and they found a group of pairs--they seemed to be going to building 2, which was the building they were assigned to--so they followed along, being quiet, holding hands as scared siblings often do when they are young. They didn't want to get separated, especially when those around them could have crazy, ultra-strong abilities. They finally entered the building, and were ushered up to the third floor, where they found their room: It had a simple label next to it saying 328. As they opened the door, they were utterly surprised--

The dorm room was huge! It could essentially be two rooms--it didn't seem to fit it's space correctly, like it was bigger than it should be inside the building. There was a restroom next to the front door, equipped with full-sized tub and shower, and when entering the room, there was a curtain they could draw in the center to divide it--not that they would use it, they often slept in the same room back home.

What was the most surprising, though, was the decoration--Leina's side had plenty of bookshelf space, and had a color scheme that she adored! The bed was comfortable, and had one of those thin veil curtains on it. Everything was in her favorite colors, though it was mostly just the essentials: A bed, a desk, paper and writing utensils, space to hook up a computer if they wanted...The only odd thing that they noticed was a small plant in a pot near the window that was dead center in the room--it seemed to be reaching towards the sunlight.

Leina got out the map that they had been given--well, her map. Nico had gotten his own. She lay it on the floor so that she could go over it with Nico and commit it to memory. Nico got a sheepish grin on his face, suggesting that they go explore. Leina gave a hesitant nod and followed Nico out of the room.

    Toren the Portalist

    ~+~+~+~+~+~+~+~+~+~+~+~+~+~+~+~+~+~+~+~+~+~+~+~+~+~+~+~+~+~+~+~+~+~+~+~+~+~+~+~+~+~+~+~+~+~+~+~+~+~+~+~+~+~+~+~+~+~

{ The front gate was a curious feature upon arrival to the academy. Toren had stepped out of his fancy car and put his sunglasses on the top of his head. His personal driver had stepped out and began unpacking his luggage from the trunk. Not thinking too much about his belongings, Toren started walking through the gate. He really didn't care for the vines that hung above him in the canopy, as though they were tentacles waiting to drop down and wrap themselves around those who walked beneath them. He looked warily at the vines as he passed through. As he was walking he was greeted immediately by staff and was directed to follow a certain path towards the auditorium. Due to being new to the grounds, he felt it best to take the path and see the sights. A decent walk couldn't hurt him, right? When he finally arrived at the auditorium door, staff members handed him some pamphlets. He took it, but did not look at it. Toren walked inside and looked all around him. There was a decent amount of students there already, though they all seemed apprehensive though lightly chatty with excitement.

It is like I've walked into a meeting that I don't want to be at.. Ruefully, Toren took a seat on the end of one of the aisles. Getting comfortable, he finally pulled out the pamphlet and started flipping through it. Inside he found a list of rules, which he skimmed through, a few maps of different areas of the campus, ID cards with his name and picture on them. This startled him and he stared at them. They've already got me setup with cards and the lot! Do they really think I'll be staying here all year? With a bit of surprised annoyance, he pulled out his wallet and stuffed the ID cards inside and proceded to look at the remaining item within the pamphlets. It was a weird looking tattoo with the letter "C", a weird symbol, and a lilac flower popping out of it. Recognizing the image, Toren went back to the pamphlet to confirm his suspicion. Indeed, he was correct. The image of the tattoo matched the academy's emblem that was appropriately decorating the pamphlets and staff. Turning it over briefly, he read the disclaimer with the provided instructions and sighed. So they expect me to wear this? He pocketed the tattoo and decided to stare ahead at the students seated a few rows ahead of him. I'll put it on later. I don't know where I want to put it yet..

It wasn't long before the orientation started and students were called up one by one, some two at a time. The Headmaster was up on stage distributing dorm assignments and bowing to each student. Something about him made Toren raise an eyebrow. Once his name was called, he slowly got up and walked down the aisle towards the stage. He had the pamphlets sticking out his blazer pocket and his hands idly stuffed in his jean pockets as he walked up. Doing like those who went before him, Toren received his dorm room assignment, number 3523, and introduced himself.
"I'm Toren. Pleasure to meet you." His instinct was to hold out his hand for a shake, but with the room full of students, he let the urge die and got off the stage as fast as his legs would let him. Now that he had his dorm number, he was allowed to leave the building in search of his dorm. He was directed towards Dorm Building #3 where he proceded to the fifth floor. Toren was relieved to discover that the fifth floor was less crowded than the rest. The other floors were stuffed with noisy guys shuffling around and bumping each other while seeking their rooms. The fifth floor was much quieter and not as many guys had passed him in the hall. Reaching the door with his number on it, he opened it up and was thrilled at what he saw.

    "Wow! They've really out-done themselves here. How'd they know I'd like a room like this?" Talking to himself, he tossed the pamphlets on a side table and explored his room. He opened every door and drawer within the room. He sat on the corner of his bed and examined the room, committing it to memory. If I want to portal back here quickly, this is the first room I need to memorize everything about. He studied the dimensions of the room and the decorations. The room was mostly bare, with just the necessary essentials. A potted plant was the only odd thing in the room, but he let it go because it was by the window, seeking sunlight, and it wasn't in a location that would bug him. Just when he thought he was done with the room, he suddenly realized that all of his luggage was already in the room. He didn't know how they got there, but he appreciatively unpacked one thing from his bags. It was a picture of him with a girl at a park. He lingered on it temporarily before putting it down on his bedside table. "So now I am here. Let's see how much this academy can really help me." Turning on his heel, he pulled out the maps and stared at them. "It is about time I explored this place from top to bottom. Now...where do I want to go first?" His stomach growled and he grinned. "Agreed, stomache! I should learn where all of the food is so that I can get to it quickly tomorrow!" Laughing at his personal joke with himself, he pocketed the maps and left his dorm room, a smile finally across his face. }

Leanna had walked to school with a silent step. She wasn't sure what she should be thinking right now... should she be excited that she got to get away from the other Valkyries? Afraid she wasn't going to amount to anything here? Perhaps determined to become the best Valkyrie ever? She doubted any of those was going to actually happen... besides her unique gifts, she was just a Valkyrie. She would collect souls, tend for them until it came time to fight, then... then what? She would die? She didn't really know how it was going to go down. She had grown up believing in her fate... but then this school sent her that letter...

She paid half attention at orientation. It was pretty interesting but at the same time Leanna was too busy worrying about everything really. When her name was called up, she went to go speak to the headmaster. “Leanna Valkyria.” She said, giving a slight bow. “Thank you for allowing me this chance.” She says, got her room assignment, and headed out to check her new room out.

“Oh... oh my.” She said, surprised. It was pretty spacious. There wasn't much Leanna required... but the bed she was on was soft, so she could spread her wings out without them getting scratched on anything. There was nothing in the room to block her death senses, and she found a few items she could store soul energy in, and a place to put loose feathers. That was the kicker- Valkyrie Feathers could be cursed... with enough of them you could force a Valkyriee into servitude... there were horror stories about some that were forced into becoming wives, and she always shuddered as she heard those.

“Right... this is promising.” Leanna said fluffing her fings then folding them, and she exited. She had no idea what she would do at this point...exploring seemed useful enough, so that's what she dead, heading out... maybe the place had a gravesite or something similar.

Episode 0, the Eyes of Arachne

Umbrie, a childlike Nyxad, a Nymph of the darkness and a member of the Assassins guild called the "Eyes of Arachne" after repeated failures trying to capture a specific Arctic Fox Spirit she promised herself she would capture alive as the bounty specifically requested. had finally found the fox after decades of failure. while other bounties over the years had helped her fund her sisters. she had finally followed the silver haired and 9 tailed trickster to a Vine Covered Gate.

while the young bounty hunter, had cornered her mark, the prey she had pursued. the gates had opened for them and the sly silver tongued individual bolted through the garden towards the school building, leading the young nymph towards the academy. it turns out there was going to be no bounty to feed her sisters with, and well, it turned out this silver haired trickster lead her to the academy in a 3 Decade Long Game of Tag. the girl, appearing no older than about 12. clad in her black gothloli dress with a charcoal grey pair of thighlength stockings and a black pair of flat bottomed top buckled italian formal boots. had to take a close examination of the place, it was a school. she wasn't supposed to catch him, she was supposed to follow him, and she was already at the deepest part of the metaphorical rabbit hole. through the courtyard she ran to the vine covered school to be directed towards a large central office. only to find a paper of her completed registration. a paper the trickster had her beleiving was a bounty. she was a little bit miffed, well, extremely miffed. it was the dead of night, as she was expected to make it by. and well, she was hastily assigned to building 1 room 228. escorted by the trickster that led her. this was her first time encountering supernaturals that weren't connected to her own bloodline, having spent a great deal of time amongst humans, well, time to hone her skills and learn here, and hopefully, she could became a Titania of the Night.

Episode 0 Act 1. the School

because of her haste in being assigned a Room, the little Nymph hadn't had much time to be shown around the campus, and she noticed she wasn't assigned a proper set of classes yet. so the youthful nymph had to be escorted to the school building with the figure from before. the fae child still wasn't used to the campus, and would spend time exploring it with her "guide" as it could be put. after a good mini tour, she would be escorted to the headmaster's office to be assigned her classes.

Throst quietly walked through the front gates, the world had changed so much over the past years since his death. He had always heard about all the new technologies from other fallen in Valhalla. He looked around at the other students that were also walking by, "it's nice to see people who aren't killing eachother regularly," he mummbled to himself. This 'secret' school was a perfect place for Throst to lay low from the valkyries that are hunting him down for leaving Valhalla.

Orientation was boring seriously back in Throst's time everything was about killing, and other good stuff. When the headmaster called his name Throst aproached him, "Throst Ljotsson," he said in his heavy Swedish accent. And giving the headmaster a firm handshake.

After orientation Throst headed to his dorm. "Dang," he said when he opened the door. The room was extremely spacious, and it was modeled after a old viking house, so Throst felt right at home. Throst left his dorm and started to wander the school.

Soteri stared in awe as he scanned the campus.

"Uwah.... It's a big school, alright!" He blurted out.

"Don't get too carried away, we still need to get to the opening!" The spirit nagged. Soteri sighed and walked into the main hall. It was magnificent. The walls were draped in beautiful banners, the floor covered in strong oak wood. He sat down and listened to the speech that was given, his hand glowing with anticipation (It did actually glow). Afterwards, he was greeted by a member of staff who took him to the headmaster's office.

"Soteri Gikir"

"And I'm Kirada!"

He was given his timetable and was taken to his room. It was a medium sized room, with three separate ornaments, which supposedly held his weapons. 'Thank goodness... It's a lot of energy to drag these around' he thought in relief as he summoned his 3 blades and placed them on. He sat back in the rocking chair that was there and pulled out his dad's favourite fantasy book.

Location: Building 3

Acquaintances: No-one, really...

Thoughts: "I've got a good feeling about this place... (falls asleep)"

"...come for me... Winged courier... I am worthy... I am worthy..."

"It seems that another warrior has fallen in battle. The demons should be on their way to try and claim him... Or maybe her, I never understood humans... Anyway, let us go!"

"GRAAARGH!! THE VALKYRIE GUARD COMETH TO SAVE THEE, BUT WE WILL DESTROY HIM!!"

"You demons have never been good with languages, even after a thousand years. No matter, you will be slain!!"

"Ah!!". Soteri jumped out of his dream in surprise. The last thing he remembered from it was being in a silver, angelic suit of armour, a pair of wings on his back, Valkyr drawn and smashing down into the ground; where many monsters had been standing. "Ugh, what a dream..." He mumbled groggily. Kirada chirped in response "Well, it was just a dream. And, if it was a memory, the Valkyrie Guard always won, didn't he?" Soteri nodded at the air, shook off his sleep and got dressed. The blades disappeared from their ornaments and appeared on Soteri's back briefly - indicating that the spirits had joined him once again.

He walked outside of the building, his cloak reflecting the light of day as he made his way down the winding path, towards the main building.

After getting a good layout of the place Throst left the main building and walked outside into the courtyard. He looked up at the clear blue sky, "it's been a while since I've been to Midgard..." his voice trailed off at the end. Valhalla was located in Asgard, so Throst never felt fully at home.

Throst fell to the ground, and he let out a loud sigh. He always felt better when he was outside due to his father being the god of nature. Throst looked up at the sky and watched the clouds roll on by. Eventually his eye slowly closed shut, and he fell asleep.

Soteri walked down the winding stone path that lead to the main building, pondering his most recent dream. "What was the point of that dream? Maybe my abilities are strengthening?" He thought out loud, Kirada keeping quiet this time. He usually talked with her a lot, but sometimes she would stay quiet, to let him think for himself. He noticed a man, laying in the grass. He walked over. "Hi, am I bothering you?" He asked tentatively.

Throst slowly opened one of his eyes, and looked up at the boy, "no..." He said cautiously. He didn't know the modern slang or how people talked to each other in this modern age. Both of his eyes were open now, and he was staring straight up at the boy, "need something?" He asked.

Soteri was surprised by the man's response. He wasn't used to such a quick response. "Well, I just wanted to make friends..." He replied nervously. He wasn't the best at making friends after the accident.

Throst sat up, "we'll I guess making friends are good, so the name's Throst Ljotsson," he said while reaching out for a handshake. Back in Valhalla Throst didn't make very much friends due to Throst locking himself in his room most of the time.

Headmaster Rysdan Elson

~The plants, they call, I cannot hold still...~

The orientation drew to a close. All of the students up to this point had passed through--but this didn't mean that Rysdan's job was over.

His finger lightly tapped against his jeans as he walked back to his office. He paid no attention to his surroundings--it all blended into background noise for his thoughts. Any students that arrived after this, any students that were late, would meet him in his office directly. But first, he had a student he needed to meet with. He entered his office, and spoke into one of the plants, the sound resounding throughout the entire school's campus, as if he was everywhere on the campus at once. "Orientation has officially come to a close. All new students are to be directed to my office if they did not attend orientation. Class postings will be available tomorrow at noon in the Auditorium. Everyone at the academy can select which classes they like. Those still of high school age will still have a few requirements."

That was that. Next order of business was to meet the new ancient student they were holding here. The Nyxad. Pointing his finger to the ground, a plant rose from the floorboards to greet him. He whispered to it, "Tell Inteus to bring Umbrie by the main office." The plant seemed to nod with it's tendril, and receded into the ground. It wouldn't be another moment before Inteus was notified, though it may take him a bit to get back. He decided to give another announcement.

Speaking into the plant that broadcast his voice once more, "Everyone, remember to apply the academy symbol. This ensures that you cannot die on academy grounds, and grants free access to leave/enter academy grounds as you please." Rysdan had the tattoo himself, on the back of his left hand. "Anyone attending the academy is required to wear this symbol. It will not be removed until your graduation."

The announcements he needed now being over, Rysdan leaned back in his chair--which was made of plant vines-- and continued tapping his index finger against his jeans.

~The endless tapping, unending, unfulfilled~

Therapist Inteus

-Arctic Fox-

Inteus, who had been showing Umbrie around campus, paused immediately once he felt a tug at his pant legging. Looking down, he noticed a tiny plant--he watched it for a moment before nodding and looking back to Umbrie. "Ahh, after his announcement, he did say he wanted to meet with you. Come Umbrie, let's go meet the headmaster!" He had intentionally been leaving the school building out of the tour until last for the girl because he knew of the Headmaster's intent to meet with her personally. She was a different case--she hadn't received a letter, she wouldn't have responded to one--but nevertheless, she did belong here.

It didn't take long, and soon, Inteus' knock resounded on the headmaster's door.

Tag: @Umbrie

Umbrie would follow Therapist Inteus, she seemed to Enjoy the Tour, but she knew she would have to meet with the headmaster. fact it took her so long to follow his lead, was her own fault. she thought it was a literal bounty. she was only recently aware of the Academy. well, she would have responded just fine to a letter, but as a student who was older than the headmaster, even if she didn't appear as such due to her youthful appearance and seemingly innocent nature. she knew the headmaster knew her secret, and well, she had missed orientation, so she would follow the Arctic Fox to the school building and into the hallway en route to the main office. while she followed her way to the main office, she would take time to eyeball all the new and exotic flora as she came close and would eventually knock.

Soteri shook his hand excitedly and replied "Nice to meet you, Throst! My name is Soteri Gikir".

Soteri heard the announcement and felt very stupid. "Symbol- oh right!" He cried, slapping his forehead. He pulled out a small sticker that looked like a removable tattoo. The staff member had given this to him beforehand, but he had forgotten it's use. He attempted to place it on his right hand, but a symbol glowed into realisation and stopped him from applying it.

"You don't want to do that, Aria..."

"If that symbol is put there, you can say goodbye to us spirits..."

"Be more cautious, boy. Only two others before you have done such a thing. It did not end well..."

Three male voices - the first learned and wise, the second strong and brave, the third powerful and destructive - echoed in his mind. He shuddered at the thought and applied the symbol to his left hand instead. It glowed a quiet blue for a moment, then faded back to black.

"It's a pleasure," Throst replied. He pulled the symbol out of his back pocket, and stared at it, "huh... sounds like Valhalla," he mummbled quietly to himself. Throst placed the symbol on his right shoulder. It glowed blue before branding itself into his skin.

@Eagershadow3

"What sounds like Valhalla?" Soteri asked curiously. He had some interest in Nordic mythology and religion, since his sword spirit was the Valkyrie Guard, the only spirit that seemed to have some grounds in history.

Throst jumped, "oh uh nothing, I was just blabbering about nothing," he said nervously. If word got out that Throst was hiding out at this school then he would be hauled back to Valhalla in a matter of seconds.

@Retro109

"Yes, what sounds like Valhalla?" Leanna asked, walking forward. She had been wandering around, exploring the grounds, taking in the sights when a sense... and a word had caught her. She sensed the dead, and that had led her to the talking men. She pupils slightly widened... an Einherjer got into the school? Odin was NOT going to be happy to hear that.... In fact, she had half a mind to tell him. After all, anything that reminded her of home was to be crushed... she was ehre to get away from all that. She unfurled her wings menacingly.. "Odin will not be happy to find that one of his warriors has gone missing. Shall i tell him?" She asked with a smile, plucking one of her feathers to use it in a spell to contact him.

She looked to other boy for a moment, then looked back, not sensing anything special about him to warrant her care.... not that she was really looking. Dealing with the annoyance should come first... and t was. i nothing else, the Einherjer would have to reconie that there WAS someone who could shove him to Valhalla if she was pissed off... that made for excellent blackmail.

Throst jumped to his feet, "don't you dare tell Odin," he barked back. "I shouldn't have even been sent to Valhalla, my father is Frey so I should have been sent to my aunt," he finished, but something dawned on him, "aren't you supposed to be in Valhalla too? Last time I checked valkyries don't get days off."

"They made an exception for me, actually." She said with a smile. "Lord Odin wants me to hone my unique abilities so i can use them properly, so im on standby." She says with a slight smile... this boy was annoying, especially when he was trying to turn the tables on her. "But you, however, are not permitted to be here. " She says, turing and waving. She intened to head back to her room to call the god and tell him a warrior was on the loose. "Let's see, the last time a einherjer left without consent... why, i think we use him as bait. The monsters of joutenheim waters do love unique food." She grins

He let out a long sigh, she wasn't giving in any time soon, "what do you want me to do?" He asked half annoyed. He knew that she was going to black mail him, but it was better than being stuck with the Thousands of meatheads back in Valhalla. Plus Throst remembered the time of the last einherjar got out.
