"Bring him in alive, or kill him," had been his father's exact words, but Lance knew that it was better to bring the specimen in alive. The curious joy oozing from his father's voice was more than enough to tell Lance that this particular specimen was important to the development of "God's Plan." It was something beyond his understanding, but it wasn't for him to understand. He had been taught at a young age to do what he was told, and to not ask questions, and in doing so, he would continue to survive. It had worked out for him so far, so why change the routine?
He sat leaning forward on a bench, hands clasped, eyes closed, listening intently for the sound of footsteps in the dead of the night. He didn't check his watch. His timing was always correct. He had been doing this for a week now, watching his target's mannerisms, what time he came down this path to go home, if his target would take a different path. It was too easy, and tonight was the night where Lance would strike. He had the element of surprise on his side, the eerie sense of mystery.
A single footstep came into earshot, and his eyes shot open. His target was coming... his target...
