The year was 18 hundred and 15 in the year of our Lord, in the 5th of June. It was the year the French-English East India Trading Company arrived in Egypt. Gigantic, wooden ships sailed into the port of Alexandria. There were tales of a black gold in the region: Oil. They were told to head east, then north to find the richest in the area. Of course, they were essentially held at gunpoint, as the merger between the French East India Trading Company and the English East India Trading Company ten years ago had created one of the most powerful mergers in the world at the time, and competition eventually ceased, creating a monopoly. The company used the vast amount of power and money they had to fund pro-business campaigns in France and England that would not hurt this monopoly. And so these huge ships left as quickly as they came, and within weeks they arrived in what was to become Nusl'ah. What they found was absolutely ideal. Very few natives, which would make drilling the region even easier. But the FEEITC found a way to make much more money than just drilling the region of its riches. They could create a colony. As the years passed, this idea floated around the company's head, until the governments in France and England approved in 1825.

And so it was done. By the 1850's the unclaimed area had become its own country, the Commonwealth of Riyahm. There were about 11 major cities in total, with the biggest and largest being the seaport of El-Alamien. The country had become the FEEITC's playground, and as such they introduced the fruits of the Industrial Revolution. Railroads connected all 11 cities, with of course rest stops and small towns along the way. Aeroplanes were introduced to the country, carrying people and passengers to each city that had a landing strip and Aeroport. The FEEITC also paid contracts to Colt and Remington to arm the country's de facto armed forces with new and powerful weapons the world had never seen before: Colt revolvers and Remington Autoloading Rifles were used by every member of the Commonwealth's military. Electric horses pulled carriages across town streets as oil-lights were installed to light the cities at night.

This high tech advancement was to become the FEEITC's downfall. Nearby countries, such as Egypt, Jordan, and the Ottoman Empire were getting nervous and requested the FEEITC left the Commonwealth, recognized its sovereignty, and declared it free from influence or corruption from the FEEITC itself, England, and France in 1865. The FEEITC begrudgingly agreed, as citizens began to riot in France and England to free the merchant world from the shackles the French-English East India Trading Company had cast upon it. The FEEITC soon began to lose money when they finally backed off. They struck a deal with Britain and France to leave the country alone, but divide the northernmost part of the country into two small sections that France and England would own. The two sections were called French Lebanon and British Lebanon. The FEEITC was losing a ton of money as cheaper merchant companies arose with better prices in oil, coal, and the like. Within time, the FEEITC left the Commonwealth, which became simply known as Riyahm, and the country will hold its first democratic elections in 1880.

1880 is the current year.

-----------------------------------------
The 1,001 Electric Arabian Nights is the story of a country, upon freeing its shackles from foreign influence, trying to find a sense of identity and purpose. It was a country created as a concept, a playground really, for a massive corporation spanning all around the globe. But with its creator gone, can Riyahm survive into the 20th century and beyond as a major actor on the world's stage? Or will political instability kill the seed before it takes fruit for something potentially beautiful?

If you haven't guessed, this RP's main goal is to determine Riyahm's destiny. Start a political party, and advocate for Democracy. Or perhaps serve as a hitman, destabilizing your employer's rival party. The choice is yours, use it wisely! There are no real rules, except for abiding by RPN's rules, and being courteous by using general RPing rules. Any and all post lengths are welcome, just add to the story is all I ask. One day after the RP starts (ingame), I shall add some NPC parties, and shall you request it, your party as well.
