Even though she doesn't demand things like a true spoiled princess, she is used to getting a lot of nice things. She's used to not wanting for things. If things do not go her way, she has a tendency to tear up and cry, a tactic she learned works well on her father (though not so well on her mother).

Holds onto Grudges: Something she learned from her mother, Mara is adept at keeping a grudge. When her father's secretary first apologized to her at the age of 5, Mara didn't fully comprehend why it was necessary. Now that's she's a little older, she understands more that the secretary had something to due about her parents' divorce. Watching her mother bear grudges against both her father and his secretary taught Mara herself how to hold a grudge. Wronging Mara in any small way, might get you a one-way ticket to her bad side, and it's a long, arduous journey back from it.

Self-isolation: Due to both her parents' busy schedules, Mara is often left alone to her own devices. Though she receives a lot of attention from her mother, Mara still obtained the tendency to isolate herself from others. She's used to being on her own, but it is often that she feels quite lonely in her isolated bubble. Because she is off to the side-lines a lot of te times, people don't always notice her.

Forms Attachments Easily: Another side effect of a lonely childhood. When Mara finds people she likes, she latches onto them and tends to interact mainly with them. People tend to assume that she's shy due to her lack of conversing with others, but that is not the case. Mara isn't nervous or intimidated by others, she just is impartial to them and hence doesn't feel the need to being overtly friendly with them. Mara doesn't have a ton of friends, but she has a small circle of close-knits ones.

Impulsive: Like many other kids, Mara has a tendency to be impulsive. Whether it be drawing on her father's walls with crayons or suddenly trying to make a meal to give her mother a break and almost burning the house down, Mara acts on impulse at times. Giving no forethought to the consequences of her actions, she will do whatever makes sense to her in the moment.

[div class="tag cyan"]virtues[/div]Quick Learner: Even from a younger age, Mara has always learned things quickly. She's never had problems in school, learning all material from English to Math with ease. She's by no means a child genius, but she's never truly struggled with picking up a new subject.

Curious: Alongside her ability to learn quickly, Mara is filled with a deep curiosity for things. She constantly wants to learn how to do new things. When she was smaller, she pestered her father with questions about his work but he waived her off. She also pester her mother about her line of work and school, and her mother was more than happy to let Mara learn beside her.

Patient: Mara grew up to be a calm, gentle, and patient child. Having to wait for her mother to come home from a long day at work and waiting for the weekends with her dad to be over caused Mara to be extremely patient. She doesn't lash out and get angry with others when she's upset or faced with a problem. To her, it is far easier to confront a challenge with a calm mind. This is not to say that she can't get angry and lash out, she is just less likely to.

Observant: Due to the fact that Mara isolates herself, she has a tendency to observe from the sidelines. She notices things other might skip over and is fairly intuitive about what she sees. With people tending to forget she's even there, sometimes Mara overhears things she wasn't meant to.

Easy to Please: After all, Mara is 9-years-old. It can be fairly easy to please her, especially once you discover what she likes.

Since divorcing her husband, Mara's mother works full time in a hospital as a nurse. Working full time leaves little time for Mara's mother to spend time with her; however, her mother does her best to make sure she has time every day to play with Mara, no matter how exhausted each day at work leaves her. She loves her daughter dearly and will do anything so that Mara can have the best life possible. While she resents Mara's father, she doesn't feel the necessity to keep him away from their daughter. Mara means the world to her mother and if anything were to happen to Mara, her mother would be heart-broken and inconsolable.

Father: Mara's father works in a fairly prestigious law firm as a successful lawyer. He earns enough money to live a comfortable life, but is by no means rich and his bank account isn't overflowing with an excess of money. When Mara was 5-years-old, he cheated on her mother with his secretary. Four years later, the two are still in a relationship and are considering marriage. Because of his job, he too is exhausted from working into the very late hours of the night. Commonly, he has a nanny for whenever he has Mara and doesn't spend too much time with her. He's not the best father, but he too tries his best in his own way.

Father's Secretary: The most Mara had ever interacted with her father's secretary was on the rare occasion she visited her father at his office. Some of those visits were while her parents were still together, but most of them were after her parents' divorce. When she visited with her mother, the secretary was kind but never got too close and always avoided Mara's and her mother's gaze almost as if she were guilty of something. When she visited alone with her father, the secretary was more open and talked to her openly. She apologized to Mara, though Mara didn't understand why at the time. Whenever Mara comes to the office, the secretary would bring her own son who was the same age so they could play. Mara and her father's secretary are technically strangers, but the secretary is trying to close the gap and become closer to her future stepdaughter.

Secretary's Son: Only seeing him at her father's office, Mara has a close connection with the secretary's son. She usually has no one to play with whenever she's with her dad and only stayed alone with the nanny in her room while reading or drawing. The secretary's son was almost like a savior. He wasn't snobby or bratty, only a little shy at first. Now, the two are practically inseparable when they are together.

[div class="tag yellow"]history[/div]Mara's parents married early into their lifetimes. While they were still in their honeymoon phase, Mara was conceived. Soon after her birth, Mara's parents started to fall out of love with one another. When her mother realized she no longer loved her husband, she went back to school in order to become a nurse. She knew she couldn't live alongside her husband anymore, but she wasn't going to leave him without have a plan after the divorce. At the time, she wasn't thinking of taking full custody of Mara, but she still wanted to be able to provide for her daughter. Her mother earned her degree shortly after Mara turned 5-years-old. It was around this time that Mara's mother learned of her husband's affair with his secretary.

It's hard to say when Mara's father's affections shifted from his wife to his secretary. Around the time that Mara was 3-years-old, his relationship with his secretary officially began. As with most affairs, this one was accompanied by working more business trips and working extra late-night shifts that didn't get him home until well after Mara was in bed asleep. They managed to keep their relationship secret for 2 years before Mara's mother found out. It happened one day while Mara was at the office with her dad, playing with the secretary's son. Her mother came to the office early after job hunting to pick Mara up and take her home. Though there wasn't any love for her husband, Mara's mother's was still hurt to find out that her husband had been cheating on her. Mara and her things were quickly gathered and Mara's mother immediately sorted out the details of the divorce. Mara's father didn't fight much during the divorce process due to the guilt he felt. He knew he shouldn't have started a relationship with his secretary while still married to Mara's mother, but had done it anyway. Once divorced, Mara's mother retained full custody while still allowing her ex-husband visitation and custody on some weekends and holidays.

During the next 4 years of her life, Mara lived the majority of her life happily with her mom. Soon after the divorce, her mom found a job at one of the best hospitals in the city. Her mom became very busy with her job, but when she was home the house was filled with laughter and joy. Mara received all her mom's attention when she was at home and they did many things together. Dishes, laundry, watching TV, reading. All these were done together in some way.

In contrast, spending time with her father was lonely. Her father was swamped with work most days and hardly saw his daughter. In order to make sure she was well cared for while with him, her father hired a nanny. While the nanny played with her, it couldn't compare to time a child should spend bonding with a parent. As another way to make up for his absence and lack of parenting, Mara's father would buy her top of the line toys and gadgets. Sometimes, when he could, he would bring Mara into the office to play. He did it as a way to be closer with his daughter, but he still never really had the time to interact with her. To help supplement, the secretary would bring in her son like she did in the past. It was then that the two children became the best of friends. While he tried to be a good father, Mara's father could never quite do it right. He loved his daughter dearly. He just wasn't quite cut out to be a parent.

Trying to think of a way for him to better bond with his daughter, and for her to bond more with his future fiancee, Mara's father thought of the wonderful idea to take everyone on a cruise. Convincing his ex-wife to let him take Mara on a cruise alongside his secretary and her son took a while, but soon enough he got permission. Mara wasn't exactly thrilled to be spending weeks with her father and his secretary. She also wasn't thrilled to be on a boat because she never learned how to swim. The only saving grace of the trip was that her best friend would be there too. The last image she saw before boarding the boat was of her mother waving at her from shore with a worried expression on her face.

She's very quick to anger, though she doesn't always act out on her anger. She's more likely to sit and simmer in her own agitation than to lash out back at the person who made her angry. To her, it is far better to sit back and wait until she's not angry to talk to a person rather than to duke it out in the midst of her anger. When she is angry enough, she's not afraid to utilize her kickboxing skills if the situation calls for it.

Impatient: Waiting for things is not Asta's strong suit. Rather than waiting for someone else to get things done, Asta would just do it herself. This aspect of her personality leaves room for people to take the opportunity to walk over her, leaving her to get all their work done. A lot of the times this bothers her, but she also knows the job will be done right if she just does it herself anyway. Asta is always moving and sitting and waiting for things is unsuitable for her.

Sarcastic: Sarcasm goes hand-in-hand with Asta. Whenever someone asks her a dumb question, no matter how serious the matter at hand, Asta always has a brusque response ready. Her sarcasm is something she learned from her fathers. They'd always have a quick, witty response ready and waiting. After living with them for 22 years, there was no way that their sarcasm wasn't going to rub off on her.

Unyielding: Asta is unyielding in the sense that nothing can sway her once her mind is made up. She's stubborn to the end and will refuse to give in to anything she believes to go against her morals. Not only will she not give in, she's not afraid to tell you how stupid she thinks whatever you are saying is. After having grown up with a open-minded family, Asta will not compromise if someone tries to keep their own mind closed and acts like an ass. One could argue that that is close-minded-ness in and of itself, but Asta doesn't care.

Insecure: Even though she grew up with parents that loved and supported her dreams, Asta is no stranger to insecurity. Just like most other people, Asta has her own insecurities. And it's only gotten worse without the warm encouragement she received from her parents. Asta constantly questions if she's making the right decisions. Is this really the best for her? Alongside the insecure feeling of her decisions, she also gets insecure about her singing. Even though she graduated from one of the best music schools, she still doubts whether her voice is actually good enough for her dreams.

[div class="tag cyan"]virtues[/div]Thick-skinned: Years of being bullied about her family gave Asta very thick skin. Harsh, biting words against her doesn't get to her and make her feel inferior. The moment you start insulting a person she cares about, or an innocent, Asta's temper lights up and she's after you. Bullies as a child didn't upset her because they were making fun of her, it was because they insulted her family.

Courageous: In spite of her fear or impending danger, Asta will commit to whatever needs to be done. While she may feel insecure about a decision she's made, she will go through with it no matter what. She's made her bed, so now she must lie in it. The main things that make her hesitate are the things that she fears the most. Even when filled with fear, Asta makes quick decisions without letting fear consume her.

Intuitive: Sensing things about people, her experiences, and her surroundings comes strongly to Asta. Most of the time her intuition comes from a sense of foreboding. Whether she's looking at a person, a place, or thinking about a decision. When it comes to people, she'll have an instinctive dislike of them, though she doesn't always know why. However, her intuition isn't perfect. Asta can't make the perfect decision about everything. And she's been known for a couple of her really bad ones.

Cheerful: Throughout her childhood, Asta was a cheerful person. Always with a positive outlook on life and a smile plastered on her face, Asta goes through her life radiating happy vibes. The only time when her cheerfulness left her was when her parents died. But even then, her cheerfulness broke through, even if it was fake at the beginning. For the most part, Asta's cheer is real and bright, only clouded on the occasion when her grief makes a reappearance.

Resilient: While Asta is known to be unyielding by a moral standpoint, she is very resilient is all other aspects. Asta rolls with the punches. She keeps moving on. This aspect of her personality, along with her genuine cheer, helped her move past her parents' deaths. When trouble knocks Asta down, she stands right up and starts swinging back.

However, nothing would stop them from adopting Asta. After finding her in the orphanage, they knew she would complete their family. Asta and her fathers were very close, almost acting more like best friends than parents. They supported Asta through all her dreams, while also making sure grew up to be a smart, strong woman. Their family was tight-knit and happy. Losing her parents, nearly broke Asta. But knowing how they'd want her to continue living, Asta worked hard to make sure that her parents would be proud of her, even in death.

[div class="tag yellow"]history[/div]At the time Asta was conceived, her birth mother was in the midst of an abusive relationship. After finding out she was pregnant, Asta's birth mother finally found the courage to leave her abusive partner. In order to stay hidden from her abusive partner, Asta's birth mother used what little money she had to move several states away. Once settled, she found any possible job she could in order to support the baby growing inside of her. She never found any consistent work, always bouncing from small job to small job. Knowing she'd never be able to support another living being on her own, Asta's birth mother faced a difficult decision. After giving birth to Asta, her birth mother refused to see the baby, opting to send her newborn child to an orphanage so she'd have a better chance at life. When filling out Asta's birth certificate, she never filled out the slot for who Asta's birth father was. She wanted no connection between her baby and the brute who was her father. If there was a chance that Asta went searching for her birth parents, her birth mother never wanted Asta to know who her birth father was.

Since Asta was a newborn in the orphanage, Asta's chances at being adopted were high. Pretty soon a middle-income couple adopted Asta. The couple themselves were unable to have kids themselves due to the fact that they were both males. Rather than dealing with a surrogate mother, the couple decided to adopt a child instead. The adoption process was lengthy and complicated, but eventually the couple made it through all the legal hurdles. When looking at the children at the orphanage, Asta immediately caught their eye. It was love at first sight for the couple, and there was no way they were going to leave without Asta. After bringing Asta home, their family finally felt whole.

Growing up, Asta had a loving and happy childhood. Both of her fathers were provided all Asta could need both physically and emotionally. They supported Asta with whatever goals she had in life. The most devastating part of having two father's was when she found out that they were not her blood fathers at the age of 6. But knowing that she was chosen by her fathers showed Asta that family is not just blood, it is more than that. While she was raised with love, Asta was also faced with bullies. Full of prejudice, many kids tried to make fun of Asta for not having a mother. Whenever faced with such people, Asta was not afraid to stand up to them and call them out for their bigotry. Not once, did she ever feel the need to search for her birth mother.

When Asta was 18 and graduated high school, she got accepted into the Curtis Institute of Music. There she majored in Voice Performance in the hopes of becoming a singer one day. While in college, Asta made plenty of close friends and even devloped a new hobby. During her second year at the Curtis Institute, one of Asta's friends was assaulted. As a show of support, Asta convinced him to take self-defense classes with her. During the self-defense classes, she learned kickboxing and fell in love with the sport. Since then, she's developed a strong affinity for kickboxing. College life was stressful yet full of fun and amazing opportunities. But in the winter of her last year, tragedy struck. While on their way to visit Asta, her fathers got into a car accident. The wreck was fatal, killing both of her parents. One of her dads died upon impact while the under died in the ICU. After having the funeral, many of Asta's friends urged her to take a break from school to give her time to grieve. However, Asta worked through her grief, knowing her parents wouldn't have wanted her to let grief consume her and stop her from living. So, she worked through it. She worked through her grief and finished school as she planned.

After graduating, Asta struggled with finding a job that involved her dreams. She was only able to find part-time work in retail and waitressing. However, a break came through for her when her friend informed her of a job listing for a cruise ship entertainer. Asta dream wasn't to be a cruise ship singer; however, singing on a cruise ship was better than the current job she had. She jumped on the opportunity and managed to land the job. Finally feeling like things were looking a little brighter, Asta happily accepted to sing on the cruise ship.

[/div] Joey Walters’ upbringing was an average one. She doesn’t have many stories to tell, nor many misfortunes to grieve. Her parents had her when they were still pretty young and actually wanted a boy. Her mother was however not that keen on experiencing another pregnancy, so they settled with naming their daughter a predominantly masculine name; Joey. Now, Joey was never very fond of her name as a child, as it got her a decent amount of teasing, but in her later teens she stopped caring.

Raised in Washington by two parents working well-paying jobs, Joey was an only child. This meant her parents had to work most of the time instead of spending time with Joey, leaving her to find her own ways of entertainment. Her dad eventually bought her a Gameboy at age 8, and she has yet to let it go. Joey was devastated when she realized she had lost it on the ship.

As a child she was very curious, something that has definitely faded away, and she had a fascination with electronics. This curiosity followed her throughout her younger years and at 12 years old one of her favorite pastimes was disassembling and reassembling electronics around the house. [/div] Jaime’s parents had fallen in love at a young age and stayed together ever since, so it was to no one’s surprise that they raised their children in a loving home. Jaime was the oldest of 4 siblings and he helped his parents take care of his brother and two sisters from an early age.

They grew up in a town on the south coast of Spain, right by the sea. In the summers the town would be flooded with tourists, while it was sometimes annoying that there was never any parking space, Jaime really loved to see his town sparking with so much life. Through a family friend, Jaime got his first job at fourteen in one of the chiringuitos (a restaurant located on the beach) lining the beaches. That is when he fell in love with restaurant life and cooking. As he grew older, he went from dishwasher to cook, and occasionally he’d cover the position of bartender too.

When Jaime was eighteen, he decided to move out of the small town he had grown up in. He wanted to explore the world and learn new cuisine, so he packed his bags and spent some time in France, before moving further north to the UK. It was on a late night in a pub in London where he met her. Her name was Rosie and Jaime fell head over heels for her. They had a fiery relationship and he loved her like he had never loved anyone before, of course he was only twenty years old at the time and hadn’t loved many before her, though apparently, she had. And she didn’t love him like no other. To Rosie, it was only for fun. To Rosie it wasn’t exclusive and it wasn’t a big deal that she didn’t tell him.

Needless to say, after years of hanging on to her, Jaime decided it didn’t work out. She was no longer worth it. He went back home for a year to be with his family before he felt like he needed something new. A friend of his had moved to Brazil and worked as a bartender on cruises, and so once again Jaime packed his things and went on his way. To his surprise, it wasn’t long before he got a job in the ship’s restaurant, eventually working his way up to head chef. It wasn’t long after his promotion that everything kind of went to hell.

Ryu was born with a silver spoon in his mouth. His Appa (father) is the CEO of a large pharmaceutical brand, Bae-Plex, and his Umma (mother) was a chairwoman. He grew up spending more time with his baby sitters and the maids in the house than with his own parents. When he was twelve, he discovered that his Appa had an affair with one of the his assistant which lead to his parents divorce. Ryu moved in with his Umma who left the Bae-Plex after receiving enough money from the divorce to live comfortably. His Umma began to spend time on her art work – something which she had a true passion for but put on hold when she became a chairwoman – and made a name for herself without her husband.

Once a month, Ryu would visit his Appa as ordered by the courts. When he was fourteen, Appa’s girlfriend gave birth to a son, Ji-Sung. All the sudden, his Appa (who already had little time for Ryu) had even less time for his eldest son. Whenever he was over to visit, his Appa would spend all his time, love and effort on the newborn child. Once Ryu turned nineteen (18 in international age), he cut off all ties with his Appa and focused all his time with his Umma. Now he was officially an adult, he didn’t need to visit his Appa once a month.

It had been five years since he had last seen his Appa, and a lot had changed since then. His Umma passed away when he was twenty-two, after complaining of chest pains. At the age of sixty, she had a heart attack and died during surgery. Ryu was left on his own and struggling to find work, so had to turn to his Appa for some money (something that he wasn’t proud of). After providing his son with an income for the last two years, he asked Ryu to join them on a holiday vacation on a cruise ship. When Ryu declined, his Appa then said he would stop the income. Which then lead Ryu to say ‘sure, I’ll come’.

Ryu saw Eun-Kyung more than he did with his Appa as she would have dinner and tuck him to bed at night. After the divorce, he decided to stay with his Umma and they healed their broken relationship. She was his best friend and vice versa. One day, Eun-Kyung complained about chest pains and was soon rushed to the hospital. She was brought into surgery after being diagnosed with a heart attack but as they performed on her, it was too late.

Step-Umma – Lee Jang-Mi – 36 - Jang-Mi was Ryu’s Appa’s secretary in which he had an affair with. No matter what, Ryu can’t find himself to trust her. He has always disliked her from the beginning. He’s convinced that she’s always been a gold-digger, out to get his Appa’s money and has no heart. After all, she was the reason his parents got divorced.

Step-Brother – Bae Ji-Sung – 10 - Ryu has a love/hate relationship with Ji-Sung. When he was first born, he resented him because of all the love and affection he received compared to him. However, there are times where Ji-Sung has been entertaining and times where he’s been a downright little shit. He knew that his step-brother never asked to be born into this shit show of a family and will give him credit for that. However, there’s always this underlying resentment towards the younger child.

Since the day he was born, Bae Ji-Sung thought that his life has been easy sailing. He had an Umma and Appa that loved him very much, he had great friends in school, and he was excelling in all of his classes. The only area that he seemed to struggle with is with his step-brother, Ryu, who – for some strange reason – was very bi-polar with him. There were days where Ryu would love to play with him, and then days where he acted like he was the scum of the Earth. In fact, it made him so upset that he confined his emotions to his parents. A week later, his Appa announced that they would be going on a cruise for a holiday with a big, special surprise – Ryu was joining them also! This meant he could spend time with his older step-brother and learn more about him like he always wanted!

Umma – Lee Jang-Mi – 36 - Ji-Sung feels very blessed to have both an Umma and Appa that love him very much. All she ever knew was her adopted parents, and America. Though she was born and adopted in Italy, her parents moved to America shortly after adopting the young girl. Chaeri's parents were nothing if not upfront about the fact that she was adopted, and both parties were fine with it. She seemed to lack the natural curiosity of who her mother and father really were -- she just knew she had a comfortable life and had no desire to venture beyond that. And little Chaeri had little time to ruminate on such things, as from the age of 3, her parents enrolled her in a figure skating program.

From the very beginning, the ice seemed to meld around her, and Chaeri took a loving to it. Her talent was almost prodigious, and the little girl found more fun than challenge in learning the next jumps and spins. But her mentality towards the sport took a drastic turn when she turned 10, and saw her first Winter Olympics. Chaeri was taken by the artistry and grace each skater held, the way they danced across the ice like they were flying. She loved it. She loved the idea of it. She loved the idea that she could be the one on the screen one day. She started working harder, putting her all into every practice even though she was barely old enough to understand the techniques that went into each jump. By 12, Chaeri was working on her double axel, and she was hooked on the idea of that she could be in the Olympics when she was older. Everyone knew that she was on the right track. Her parents had given their full support to her skating, and Chaeri started going to practice daily.

By 14, she had an elite, private coach and was near finished with a checklist of skills she'd need for the Olympics. The masses of medals and trophies in her room had spilled over into the rest of the house, taking up every bit of mantel and shelf space that there was. All she knew was skating, and skating had all of Chaeri; her heart, her soul, and her time.

When Chaeri didn't make the cut for the 2018 Olympics, her whole life fell apart. She went into a severe bout of depression, her personality hardening, leaving only a shell of the lighthearted girl whose love for skating was innocent and pure. Now she was fueled by bitterness and anger, spending all of her waking time working on her triple axel and lutz. She obsessed over her mistakes, and other skaters who succeeded where she failed.

But, after a year, Chaeri had dragged herself out of the pit that consumed her with a triple axel and lutz, and she was determined to do the absolute best. She had no sense of her ability, only eyes for what she couldn't do. And that was her stepping stool to success. Pushing herself further and further was only natural to Chaeri. She was unfazed by the fact that, at 19, she had never had a boyfriend or a true friend, because the only thing she needed for dopamine was another win. Chaeri was devastatingly good, almost too good for her own health. She received an offer to an invitational that she knew would get her noticed, and gladly accepted. It was overseas, but her parents quickly sent her off, knowing that she would only fall into another depressive episode if she couldn't go and wanting to see their daughter win just as much as she did. The catch? The ship she was sailing on was the cruise ship Divinity, and she would never see the ice of her competition.

adopted mother; odessa blythe bayard | Chaeri's relationship with her mother is one of with a near professional stiffness. They barely speak, Chaeri's mother only to tell her how to improve and Chaeri only to acknowledge her mother. In truth, Odessa's heart glows with pride every time Chaeri wins, but she only sees a true victory if the routine is perfect.

adopted father; corentin blythe bayard | Corentin is Chaeri's rock. Each time she fell, he'd be there with a smile and motivational hug, and each time she won, he'd do the same. He always had the words to help her find some good element in her routine, no matter how bad she felt the runthrough was. But in truth, after her depressive episode due to not making the Olympics, he became slightly alienated to the idea of her skating, seeing how badly it tanked her mental health. Sadly, he knew that there was nothing he could do to make her stop, and simply kept on smiling from the sidelines.

2 )[/div] [div class=point]juliette pearl meyer was born on the twenty-sixth of may to her parents matthew eliott bennett and lauren rose bennett. she lived quite the tranquil life in barcelona, spain with the beach as her friendly neighbour. her parents were happy go-getters and more than ecstatic to finally be starting their own family and life together.[/div] [div class=time]early childhood ( ages 3 - 8 )[/div] [div class=point]growing up, juliette was looked after by her parents and throughout that, the bennett's attempted to conceive to grow their family. unfortunately, they suffered the loss of a child due to a miscarriage when lauren was eleven weeks pregnant. but nonetheless, they continued to attempt on having another baby. yet, after years of struggling, it was discovered that lauren suffered from blocked fallopian tubes due to a uterine infection that was caused by her miscarriage. although heartbroken, matthew and lauren kept their hopes up high for the future.[/div] [div class=time]middle childhood ( ages 9 - 11 )[/div] [div class=point]things in life seemed to be going okay for juliette and her parents. matthew and lauren both accepted that they would appreciate what life had given them and continue to make their little family work. they had many other options to consider, such as laparoscopic surgery to remove the blockage or even adoption. and adoption was what they turned to. welcome five-year-old faith ruby bennett who was incredibly welcomed into the family. but little did juliette and faith know that this was when her dark era began.[/div] [div class=time]adolescence ( ages 12 - 18 )[/div] [div class=point]at twelve years old, juliette suffers from an incredible loss that she forever blames herself for. it all happened in the span of one night. she and her mother spend the evening watching movies and munching away at snacks. but when juliette falls asleep on the couch and her mother experiences a deathly allergic reaction to peanuts ( anaphylaxis ), juliette is clueless and unsure what to do. the young girl panics, watching her mother struggling to breathe, which she'd never seen happen before. until eventually, her mother's lifeless body is laying on the floor of their living room and juliette is hiding in the closet, crying. sooner or later, matthew and faith return home, only to be welcomed by the sight of a very pale body. two weeks later and juliette is standing beside her father and sister, watching her mother being buried into the ground. that’s when things began to go downhill. her father involves himself in alcohol and gambling to help the pain and loss of his wife. then, the physical abuse begins. juliette is only sixteen when her father first lays a hand on her and it begins with a slap, but it gets worse. most of the time, she’s protecting her younger sister resulting in taking all the hits and having many bruises. she resorts to stealing food and the necessities that she and her sister need because her father no longer supports them. but it’s when juliette’s father threatens her with a knife that she decides she and faith can no longer stay at home him. so, they run away. they get onto the first train to anywhere just to escape.[/div] [div class=time]present ( ages 19 + )[/div] [div class=point style="margin-bottom: 0px;"]most of the time, juliette and faith focus on looking after themselves. they jump from sleeping in cars to homeless shelters to motels when they can. all through that, juliette is trying to keep on the down-low from getting caught or into trouble with the police because she knows her father is doing anything to get both her and faith back. juliette believes that if she's hopping from place to place, then they won't be found - 2 )[/div] [div class=point]at one years old, faith was found in a trash can by a homeless forty-something-year-old man fishing for food scraps. handed over to the police, faith became a warden of the state and was given the name june as she was found in the month of june before she was put into a foster home.[/div] [div class=time]childhood ( ages 3 - 11 )[/div] [div class=point]for whatever reason, being abandoned in a trash can was an especially shameful way to be cast aside, and for that reason, growing up, faith was ostracised by the kids living with her. they often called her 'trash-girl' and she preferred to keep to herself most of the time. however, despite this, faith tried to keep as optimistic as possible. at some point, she knew that she would be adopted and loved by her new family. that's when matthew and lauren bennett came into the picture. faith was finally adopted at five years young and just a couple weeks after, her name was soon changed to faith. life got better for faith. she was loved dearly by her parents and elder sister, fitting right in. even at school, kids treated her better than how she was treated in foster home. for once in her life, her future seemed to look incredibly bright. until the night she saw her mom’s lifeless body on the living room floor. dead. then, everything began to go downhill. her father began to get angrier and scarier, coming home drunk every night. faith only had her elder sister to rely on. she was the only one that would read her bedtime stories and be the one to feed her breakfast and take her to school. until the abuse and the stealing began. her father was just a big bad monster.[/div] [div class=time]present ( ages 12 - BIOGRAPHY.
nate was the third born child to ruth cherevin, and he never knew his father. in fact, none of his sisters know their father's either because they all have different fathers. that's just the kind of woman ruth cherevin was, in her youth, and she had her first child at sixteen. despite all of it, nate would admit that back in the day, she was good at making money, even if it was illegally.

for the most part, nate had a decent childhood. his mother worked hard to provide for he and his sisters (though not always legally), and although they never had a lot of money to spare, life wasn't bad. eventually, ruth fell on even harder times and stumbled into an alcohol addiction, which left polly to care for him and lila, though nate had already started getting into trouble at that point. he'd always been a mischievous kid, and the fact that his mother was no longer paying attention to him fuelled that mischievous flame.

while nate had many talents growing up, including being a skilled artist from an early age, his grades suffered in school. by his junior year of high school, nate had fallen into the wrong crowd and ended up dropping out, but he felt like he was doing fine. he lived with polly and lila for a while, till he eventually became an apprentice at a tattoo studio and made enough to move out and get his own place. it was small, but it was his own.

nate still stuck with a bad crowd, but they were loyal, and that was all he could ask for, after having a distant mother who went on to love alcohol more than her children. she tries to reach out, but the siblings all know it's because she wants alcohol to satiate her addiction, and nate, though he knows how bad it is, can never bring himself to say no.

recently, his mother confided in him about some debt she was in — and it was a shitload. it came at a bad time too because nate was finally turning his life around. he stopped dealing (and manufacturing) and he was doing well at the tattoo studio, but to help his mother out, he decided to take one last job. it landed him on ship divinity with a trunk full of drugs, and no matter how dangerous it felt, he was going to follow it through. or try to, at least.

→ unknown: nate's father ran out on him when he was born, or maybe he didn't know his mother was pregnant in the first place. nate's mother has told him so many different stories that at this point, he knows he'll never get the full truth, so he stopped asking.

→ lila cherevin: lila is perhaps the most sane one in the family. she's smart, well read, and she's ambitious. at the moment, she works as a journalist, and nate couldn't be more proud. it was what encouraged him to try and leave his reckless life behind, but of course his mother had to step in.

PERSONALITY.
→ stevie is a very optimistic and quirky person. she finds joy in things that most people don’t and se always finds a way to make the best of a horrible situation. a very kind soul, stevie is constantly trying to help others that need it or make them smile. she has a unique sense of humour, which some could describe as a little morbid, and she can sometimes be seen as quite sardonic, but there are hardly many other people that could master the language known a sarcasm better than her. while she is patient, there are certain occasions when stevie could get angry, though those are incredibly rare, and she tends to do things on a whim, believing that she should live each day like it's her last — especially since in her case, each day really could be her last. all in all, she’s a lovely person to be around, and you can bet she’ll make you smile one way or another.

HABITS.
→ stevie tends to bite her nails a lot. she doesn't need to be nervous or anxious to be doing so, it just happens frequently.
→ she also has a habit of talking to herself when she has a lot going on in her mind.
→ when stevie is nervous, she tends to fidget, usually with anything she can get her hands on.

FEARS.
→ hospitals: she's spent way too much time in them, and they only remind her of the fact that she could end up there at any given moment.
→ feeling breathless: due to her condition, it's a feeling she can get every now and then, but in her youth it was much more frequent and severe. she never wants to feel that again. it's terrifying.

background

BIOGRAPHY.
most of stevie’s childhood was spent in hospitals because she was diagnosed with cystic fibrosis quite early on. it wasn’t exactly pleasant but she tried to make the best of it. her disease stemmed from a gene since her mother’s father suffered from it as well, and while he died at twenty-six from it, stevie was expected to live a little longer.

because her mother was reminded of all the suffering she went through, seeing what happened to her father now happening to her daughter, she believed she couldn’t take it anymore so one day, while stevie and her dad were in the hospital, she just packed her bags and left. stevie’s never seen her mother since that day. she was ten when it happened and she holds a lot of anger and resentment toward the woman for being selfish and leaving them in the lurch. the family had struggled with finances before but now, with just her father trying to hold up the family and her hospital bills, things were hard.

stevie continued to grow older and while sometimes complications arose, she was still more or less healthy. at least, as much as one could be with cystic fibrosis. stevie was homeschooled so she never experienced what actual school was like till she turned fifteen and demanded to go, but her father and brother were always so protective of her, and she began to feel smothered.

instead of going to college to get a degree, stevie used her love for drawing to start making small comics for the local newspaper, while working on a bigger series that she hoped to publish one day — if she lived that long.

when stevie was nineteen years old, they found a bacterial infection in her lungs, something that was, for the time being, incurable. she went through various medical trials but nothing seemed to help. eventually, she decided she didn't want to be a burden anymore if nothing was even going to work. her dad and brother had suffered enough, so, with the money she had saved up, she got herself on ship divinity and decided that if she was going to go, she was going to do it in style.

EXTRAS.
→ while stevie has cf, unlike many other patients, she doesn't require constant oxygen therapy. ideally, she sleeps with a mask on at night, but during the day, she needs to abstain from excessive physical activity (but she won't) and take the prescribed antibiotics.

relationships

FATHER.
→ daniel mcleod: it broke her heart to leave her father behind after everything they'd been through together. he gave up so much to keep her safe and alive, but at this point, there was no hope anymore. not for her, and she didn't want to take his life away from him like that when he had so much more to live for. she ultimately decided that things were just better this way.

MOTHER.
→ eleanor mcleod: having never seen her since she was ten years old, stevie felt no inclination to try and find her before she boarded the cruise ship. the woman chose to leave her life years ago, and as far as stevie was concerned, she made that decision for the both of them.

OLDER BROTHER.
→ calvin mcleod: cal has always been protective of stevie, since she was four and he was eight. even so, he was at least a little better than her father when it came to 'smothering' her and ensuring she was safe, which was why stevie enjoyed her time spent with him, even if there were times when he was downright frustrating. she didn't tell him of her plans to leave home, but she left him a note detailing the reason behind her decision, as well as that she loved him. she even left behind a comic that she finally finished and wished for him to read.
