It is the year 2016, in New York City. After many years of genetic modification experimenting, scientists have developed a set of cells that produce a birthmark that brands your skin in order to display how 'ideal' your genes are, and are also in a specific shape. There are 16 different shapes; each shape corresponds with one of the 16 personality types. The color of your brand, which is either gold(most ideal), grey(less ideal), or red(the least ideal), decides a lot about your life. This color decides which of the 3 wards you live in, what schools you can attend, what jobs you can have, and what opportunities are open to you. There is a school called ZAGS (Zeria Academy of the Genetically Superior), which is located in the Gold Ward. It is the most prestigious gold-only academy in all of the world. Golds from all over the world apply to this academy, but it only has an acceptance rate of 2%; accepting about 2,000 students out of roughly 1,000,000 that apply each year. Not only are grey's and red's not allowed to attend or apply, they can't even step onto the campus let alone the entire gold ward without a work visa or some type of government ticket. Graduates of ZAGS always become famous or unbelievably rich in their adult life. Seeing how amazing this opportunity is, red's and grey's start getting creative; painting or even illegally tattooing their brands gold to get into the school, and hoping nobody finds out, because brand incognito is one of the most taboo federal offenses, punishable by execution. How far will people go for success in society?

1. Segregationalist - Someone who supports the segregation of wards based on brand color. (Commonly referred to as "Segs" for short)
2. Anti-Segregationalist - Someone who is against the segregation of wards based on brand color. Most people who are Anti-Segregationalists aren't open about it. *In no way am I saying people who are deaf, blind, etc. are lesser than people who aren't. In no way am I saying I think discrimination or segregation should be supported. NONE of the negative standards of this made up society reflect my own personal opinions.
BRAND COLORS
Brand tattooing is the act of getting a new color tattooed over your brand. Gold tattoo ink is illegal because people have tried to get their brand tattooed before and were caught. If you have the right connections and know the right people, you can get your brand tattooed with illegally obtained gold tattoo ink, but since gold tattoo ink is so hard to obtain, the tattoo artist usually charges 30-50k per person. Finding someone who will do this for you is very hard, plus then you need to find a hacker that can make a gold ID for you with an accurate pin number by adding you to the gold database. The procedure is very rarely pulled off, but still possible. Most reds or greys have to purchase gold paint and paint over their brand every day, hoping that it doesn't chip off or get wet.
GOLD - People with gold brands have the most desirable genes. They usually have the most symmetrical faces, and naturally attractive features. They don't have any unhealthy recessive genes, genetic mutations, or acne. On average, they live longer than reds and greys. They are much less likely to have malignant diseases or terminal illnesses. They are over-all much healthier than the other wards. Their high rates of healthy citizens is mostly due to the fact that they have accessible health care and much better living conditions. They are seen as the most driven, talented, ambitious, and smart out of all the other brands, but in reality, those traits appear in other brands too. The government and the media just portrays the reds and greys as less ambitious and talented and provides golds with more opportunities to make it seem like golds are just more capable. All of the world's celebrities, politicians, and public figures are golds. Golds make up about 10% of the population. To be a gold, you must not carry and unhealthy or undesirable dominant/recessive genes. Golds own all the big companies and corporations, and hire greys ad employees and reds as custodians or cafeteria workers. Golds are allowed to travel through wards as they please, but often bring security with them into the red ward because golds are often attacked or killed in red wards. Golds can make as much money as they are able. On average, golds make about $800,000 a year.
GREY - People with grey brands have less desirable genes than golds, but more desirable genes than reds. They often look just as "attractive"(even though beauty is subjective) as golds, but there are more unhealthy people or people with unwanted recessive genes. Someone who has a recessive gene(meaning they can pass it on to their child but it doesn't show in themselves) for colorblindness, deafness, blindness, or anything of that sort will be classified as a grey. So if you are a holder of a "genetic impurity" as they call it in this society, you are classified as a grey. If you show a genetic impurity or hold more than 2 recessive impurities, you are classified as a red. Greys are seen as the average joes; people who work as accountants, retail workers, bank tellers, own small businesses, and different average white-collar jobs. Grey's are not allowed to own big corporations, and are set at an annual income maximum of $150,000 a year. The average adult grey makes about $55,000 a year. They are allowed to enter the red ward, but they aren't allowed to enter the gold ward unless they have a work permit. Grey's make up about 50% of the population.
