Personality:
While her appearance may give off a relaxed vibe K is actually a worry wort. She admittedly doesn't care about her appearance, valuing comfort over style but she is the type that plans not weeks but years ahead. Her friend's often joke that while some girls have their dream wedding planned K has her dream job, dream wedding, dream house, dream kids, and dream funeral planned. Her phone is bursting with list and plans. While her planning may seem a bit much it can come in handy when her friends decide they want to do something. As she is always prepared to find the best way to do it. Rather its going to the new club in town or going across state. And she know's not to make just one plan but to take into account several obstacles and to not let it ruin her fun when something doesn't go right or according to schedule. After all there's always another way.
Her worrying has caused K to be dubbed the mother hen of the group. It was also made her the most dependable one and her friends often turn to her for an open ear, advice, or comfort. She know's when it's better to soften her advice or tell it as it is and is always willing to help with homework. Outside of her group K is a loner and tends to stick to herself as she is a bit socially awkward. This has caused her to face some bullying but they stopped when it was revealed that she can be positively hostile to those that try to bully her. Using her brain to come back with stinging retorts and none of their comments seem to hurt her anyway. Secretly though K is very aware of their comments and their affects but clings to the knowledge that she shouldn't change herself because of it. It makes her friends opinions of her that much more important. Her friends, brother, and hobbies are her only sources of comfort when it becomes to much.

Biography:
K and her twin brother were born into a rough home life. They were raised by their bipolar mother who turned to alcohol and drugs to control her mood swings. She had two older children with a different father from K and her brother and when K was five she gained a younger half brother. K and her twin brother were both close as children but drifted apart when he became friends with troublemakers, started stealing, and got sent to Juvie. Her older siblings lived between their mom, dad, and aunt. They were quick to party and smoke weed and both fell into addictions late into K's teenage years. Her older sister eventually moved to New Orleans with her dad and her brother, after one two many fights with their mom, left soon to. K herself had cut off contact with her own father after to many broken promises and last she heard he was in jail for stealing. Again.

K's little brother was the only sibling K got along with. His father was married with three children and was the only one of the three fathers that really took an interest in their kids. Often taking her brother for the weekend and making sure he knew better then to do drugs. When he moved his family away across the country K almost convinced her mom to let her brother go with. But the knowledge of her younger brother's blooming sexuality and his father's biased opinion of it paired with the knowledge that he couldn't stand his father stopped her. Instead she convinced her mom to send him to his dad's during the summer so he wouldn't go off the rails like her other siblings did and so he could see his sisters.

Being the most mature and responsible of her siblings K found herself learning to pay bills and grocery shop at a young age. Once she knew how to do that her mom seemed to give up acting like an adult at all. She went from semi stable to going to work then coming home to drink herself into a stupor. If she didn't go out partying instead. K found herself as the adult of the house even before her older siblings left but took to the responsibility well. The constant flow of people through her house caused her to be a bit of a recluse and when she had to face them and their often immature or rude comments she always did so with a sassy or biting retort. Making it clear that while they were friends of her mom or older siblings she was the woman of the house and wasn't afraid to drive them out. Especially when they were drunk and high. And as she got older she eventually managed to make sure no more people came through her house without her knowledge. It was almost a relief to her when her siblings started to move out at the beginning of her freshman year. So she could then start coming out of her shell and make friends and figure out who she is.
Now it's the end of high school and K is beginning to realize that while she has gotten out of her shell and made friends she hasn't had any big adventures. With her younger brother old enough to start taking care of himself she is wholeheartedly putting herself into this trip. She wants to make sure it's their best summer yet. Maybe she will figure out herself along the way as well.

personality: Tan is full of energy and easily excitable. They are the first to begin an activity and always seems to take whatever mundane activity up a few notches. This is fueled by their midas touch, it seems that no matter what Tan tries it turns out amazing. This has allowed Tan to excel in nearly all aspects of their life. Tan is ride or die, even for a stranger. On a more personal level Tan is funny, and goofy, they love to make people laugh even if it's at them. Tan will do whatever it takes to keep light and happy conversations. They avoid intimate conversations at all costs, Tan hopes to change this on this vacation. In the past few years Tan has been distancing themself from this group and running with people who share more of the energy and recklessness that Tan has. Tan has turned to less savory habits, and this has manifested in Tan's personality. They are still high energy and happy but it teeters on self-destructive reckless energy.

Tan grew up in a strict household with parents that suffocated them with expectations, and rules. Tan quickly developed two sides to themself. There was the quiet, shy, and scared Tan that was present around their parents and there was this expressive and fun-loving side that came out with friends. As Tan grew they began pushing back against their parents, challenging them and standing up for themself. Tan had several rough years but ultimately things settled and Tan blossomed into a confident, and happy individual. They did their own thing and their parents had kind of given up caring. Around the age of 15 Tan came out as nonbinary and changed their name and asked everyone to use they/them pronouns around this time Tan was blessed with an adopted brother. He was around 4 at the time and this new family member redirected attention from Tan to their new brother, Clayton. This gave Tan the space to really begin living their authentic self. They seemed happier and their energy was positive and they were social and all around just living the life any teen could want.

High school was a breeze, Tan was very smart and did great in school. They played sports, were involved in clubs an soared through academically. Around junior year though Tan began running with a different crowd. While Tan's energy had always been genuine and natural, this new crowd seemed to run off of manufactured energy. Simply put, Tan began using drugs and was quickly enraptured by this crowd and the fun they had. Tan maintained grades and involvement in clubs, in fact their popularity and success seemed to skyrocket. They could do things in a few days that it took other people weeks to accomplish. They ran through college applications and are now looking at a variety of great schools to attend. As their high school career came to an end they decided to join some old but still valuable friends on a "last summer vacation". Tan had been neglecting these friends and felt horrible about it. They want to made amends for leaving the group and have an opportunity to express some honest gratitude for them.

Vani is smart, and sweet, but so, so shy. Only ever comes out of her shell when she's around her tight knit group of friends, and even then, there's a fearful distance that she keeps. She wants intimacy and friendship, but it scares her to let people too close, because what if they leave? The most she'll talk is when she's sharing about the stories she reads and writes, going on for hours about all the twists and turns of the plot.

biography:
Her parents died when she was very young, so she grew up with only her grandfather and his books. They weren't very financially stable, but bookstores always had a used book rack selling beat up paperbacks for a quarter, so she was never without something to keep her occupied. Paper was also cheap, and after discovering a guide to origami, Vani picked up a new habit, folding swans and cranes and little angels. And this was how she grew up, drifting away on paper wings into a fantasy of her own making.
Soon, Vani began writing her own stories, tales of drama and fantasy, dragons and princesses and magic. It got her through middle school, and it got her through high school. She knows that she can't live in an imaginary world forever, but she's not quite ready yet to leave it all behind.

Madeline inherited her easygoing, mostly laid back attitude from her parents. She loves nature and the outdoors, though she's definitely thankful for things like electricity and indoor plumbing. She's got a big heart and isn't afraid to show it, though she's also not afraid to say what's on her mind or tell you the truth about something, especially if asked. She hates liars and refuses to be one of them.

The downside to Maddie is that she's a bit naive about the world despite the fact that she's so grounded and close to it. She wants to believe that people are naturally good, and because of that she can forgive someone over and over again even if they continue to hurt her. Madeline was born second in the Zabielski clan, her older sister being five years older than her. Their parents never married, since they viewed marriage as a way for the government to control and keep track of them. They were the true definition of hippies-- they lived life to the fullest, and didn't live by any specific definition or standards of society. Hell, as kids, Maddie and her family didn't even have running water and they spent alot of time couch surfing with other hippie friends.

Thankfully, by the time Maddie was to start school, her parents had figured out that she and her sister Janessa needed a little bit more stability in their lives. So, they bought a run down trailer from a greasy haired seller, and that's where they've been ever since. All her life, Maddie has been known as Nessa's little sister, or Henry and Tessa's daughter. Constantly thrown into someone's shadow, she never really had the opportunity to get to know herself.

Not that she didn't try. She tried all sorts of extracurricular activities, trying to make friends and figure out what she enjoyed. They all fell flat when her parents refused to pay (or just flat out couldn't afford to pay) for things such as cheerleading sneakers, uniforms, physicals, band trips, choir auditions... none of it.

At the age of eighteen, Janessa had had enough. She skipped town right after graduation, leaving her sister and parents in the dust. She put herself through school and became a no nonsense lawyer, and the best advice she could give her sister was to do the same. Fear and a touch of pride are holding her back, but Maddie is almost eighteen. Everyone has to grow up sometime, right?
