Right. IMO months lends itself to intrigue, diplomacy, and politics well enough, as these things don't necessarily happen overnight (so to speak). Especially any ideological shifts or roads to War.

I would suggest 1 turn/post batch = 1 month. That's 12 turns per in-game year, so if we want some noticeable progression but don't want to fly through decades, it might be a good option. I was even going to suggest weeks, but that is probably too grind-y. For resolving battles, I may be able to...
