I've finished quite a few story arcs, or had RPs grind to a halt and pseudo-'finish' but I don't really write for final endings - the journey is what interests me. So I've never really written much of a closed-loop or had an otherwise final ending set from the start.
I think it's fine if we disagree honestly haha. It's not a matter of right or wrong, just personal preference.
And for 100% of my writing I don't give a shit about line OR paragraph count so it's not really a subject I feel strongly about enough to debate it - just shared my thoughts on...
Nah I just read the opening post and started spouting off, and they mentioned lines; I was not responding to yours or (if it came off as that) attacking you and I apologize if I did come off that way!
The actual definition of a paragraph is very hard to lock down - it can be as short as one...
I don't really have a specific minimum (oh shit, this post is only 2 paragraphs, time to fluff it out with some purple prose!) but as a rough rule of thumb, I personally find that 2-4 paragraphs is where most posts start, tell a story, and end appropriately without intentionally extending or...
Excellent post overall, but I especially agree with those comments. Trying to proscribe one-size-fits-all limits for how people SHOULD write is incredibly short sighted and in my eyes is a sign of someone who has no business giving advice at all - such a huge part of writing IS in breaking or...
To be honest, it's a bit of everything from the poll, but the biggest part is collaborative story writing for me. It adds an element of freshness and unexpectedness that no amount of dice bullshit or surprise plot twists can match; I can be surprised by how my own characters react for sure...
Female who almost entirely RPs girls (or 3000 year old female spirits, or female dragons, or.... you get the idea), but I do enjoy playing male characters a lot - it's just that the vast majority of my ideas end up being female. When a dude worth playing comes up hell yeah I'll play them out...
If that's all you got from my entire post then yeah you definitely missed the point. All the other examples of stuff in a convo that might be relevant? Even using your bare bones example, WHY and HOW does it grate his ears? Does he not have any brain at all to the point that he literally doesn't...
Nothing wrong with that! I do it as well in moderation, but I enjoy 1x1 so much that's where most of my attention goes. Get a good partner and... mmmh.
I think that's more of a difference between 1x1 and group RP, imo, than detailed/non detailed.
I'm definitely a more detail oriented RPer - but the character interactions are a HUGE part of RPing to me (otherwise I'd just write smut about humanized planets or tide pod-chan making out with...
Man... I used to use a lot of colors, but learned the hard way that especially on sites with multiple background options, it gets unreadable FAST. Gold and greens are some of the worst offenders, what looks amazing on one skin can be literally unreadable on another.
Nowadays I just bold...
You know - that's really interesting. I HATE writing samples with a passion. Either I write something new for a character I've never touched (and is thus not likely to be my best work lol, much less an example of my normal work) or I jack a post I like from an old character (most likely from an...
As a girl it's (SURPRISE) easier for me to play a girl. Mindblowing I know. I do have some male characters I quite enjoy but admittedly my inspiration tends to skew more female, when I do have a good male concept I generally do OK with them but it's definitely a minority of my menagerie.
I've been in some RPs for 7 years (and ongoing) and others I haven't even finished characters for. There's SO many possible reasons to bounce or stick around it's hard to really give a reason why someone bounced.
For me personally, if I'm going to stick around, I just want some kind of...
Obvious mod power abuse (as appropriate) or jackassery is an instant no-go for me. These are the people setting the example for everyone else; if they still can't be bothered to act like decent human beings, I already know for sure that I'm not going to be happy there long term.
I personally...
It depends a lot on the scenario (ex. multiple topics with 1 character vs 1 topic per character, how fast I post on each, etc) but as a loose estimate I'd say I can typically juggle 2-3 RPs or ~7-10 chunky posts a day reliably, as much as 2-3 times that in shorter bursts if I don't have anything...
I mean I've been on sites with required post lengths that have been alive for 10+ years. If you want high quality members, does it really matter if you weed out those who can't be bothered to do a certain amount? The few that do stick around and learn to meet them have usually been glad they did...
I don't join sites that require character images of real people. It's less "pretentious" (interesting choice of insults there) than simply that I find real-pic-only sites tend to be fairly anal retentive about a lot more than just that, with a topping of pretentiousness on top of that...
As long as everyone feels like they can contribute and the plot/setting doesn't revolve entirely around the powerful character, it can certainly work fine in RP, and it can even be an impetus FOR great RP. In another posts=power type site I frequent, I'm 300 posts ahead of my favorite RP partner...
