I have two stories both about dubious players, both from ages ago. Buckle up, they're wordy.
1 - Is this real life, or is this just fantasy?
"Tom" joined a RP I was GMing in a horror survival setting. Tom started to develop Actual Real Feelings for one of the characters his animeboi was having...
I can't RP against [most] characters that are self-proclaimed geniuses. I don't mean scholarly, smart, or storied. I mean the 'instant prodigy baby genius IQ of 599' type of characters.
For starters; the wise man knows he knows nothing, and pasting how smart your character is all over your...
I have to agree with this. If everything is consistently dark, that's not even very realistic either, in terms of human beings being human. Or sentient species that feel things, feeling things. There's always that one entity/person who laughs in the face of danger, or tries to make things...
I agree with you. But I can also offer a contrary point; I had a co-GM way, way, way mad long ago, and they would do 3 paragraphs max. But they threw so many curve-balls, and were so ingenious/gave so much, that it didn't really matter. Quality over quantity.
On one hand, I can agree, but mostly because sometimes people 'lamp' and fill up posts with non-interactions that don't give anyone anything to work with. No dialog, or at least not directed at anyone, no actions.
On the other hand, writing a few paragraphs about the character and where they're...
Hah, I'd like that too! Right now I'm only running one game though (closed apps), and do not know if I have the bandwidth for much else :/
But to reaffirm your struggles; I think it boils down to leadership, and relationships, really. :/
Been RPing for forever, started on oldskool forums, moved on to Gaia, then came here. I've run many, many games as a GM, stopped for many years, and am starting up GMing again.
In my experience, they die because the group integrity dissolved. What truly breaks a game is the relationships, or...
I highkey feel like dice takes people out of the game, concerning long-form RP writing, where the fights are about character development, struggles, conflict, and growth. If you gotta use dice, or want to, that's totally fine. But my primary rule of thumb is: be courteous, give people a chance...
I'm not talking about casual-mode, my dude.
I'm talking about Serious Mode but with a band of rag-tag misfits who are Game Time for some amazing stories. I like flexibility, and that's my subjective tea. The Right People = super important, and you can find them. It IS hard. Lord, believe me...
But we also can't expect players to know everything either. If GMs cannot be expected to wrangle the horns of a game at its fullest bucking, then neither can players who are curious and want to express themselves, and trying to figure out what they can and cannot do.
If they bad and make 900...
This is 100% what I mean. Thank you for chiming in, because figuring out how to explain this on 5 hours of sleep was taking way too long for me.
It is clever. I like clever. I want the sweet-sauce. If everyone is enjoying themselves, and people have equal freedom to flex-a-little-flex, I am the...
That's fair. Fundamentally, I just think that it doesn't quite matter how perfect something is intended to be. Frameworks do not matter as much as execution, and evoking emotions is everything in writing. Even inspiring awe, perhaps, for a well-written landscape, takes a good deal more than just...
I've been thinking about this for a very long time. And I bet almost nobody is going to agree with me:
I don't care about perfect grammar, perfect spelling, how long you spent on a char sheet, how long your paragraphs are (try but IDGAF), how well-fleshed out the world is, or what rules people...
I'm an extrovert with extremely nerdy hobbies. Hobbies that tend to focus on solo-experiences, like writing.
RPing is a way to make a communal story with people who have similar interests. At the very least, everyone is interested in writing. At the most? We have tons of fun things to talk...
8. The Meme Lord
Everybody loves them, or they hate them. That's it. Expect them to tYrPeE Likesfig this omg lol w/e [animu.gif] until it comes time to post, and they're plopping behemoths.
Got a new peeve, or I guess just fleshing a peeve out I have no idea, I'm bored:
I have almost nearly no problem with people who self-insert or write OP characters. Why? Because if you're an excellent writer or have fantastic characters, you can kind of get away with literally anything. I've...
I don't know about that. Take the dragon-cat hybrid for example. What was really great about being a dragon-cat? What was difficult? What was the actual BASAL situation created by, for instance, being both a cat and a dragon? Was the world this character was within hostile?
Was it a boon, or a...
I treat it like American Horror Story. I'm just copy move y'all along to a new scenario, have fun, my writing-children. Don't die pls.
Obviously if your OC is a dragon-cat-hybrid it's going to be a rough go to put them in a realistic setting without....dragon cat hybrids...but their core...
