@Discovery , any suggestions for good Westerns? I've seen a few John Waynes, and them some misc. others, but it seems like I've mostly seen newer westerns. I've wondered where to start with classic ones.
As for my own, ah, odd tastes.
I'm a vegetarian absolutely FASCINATED by cannibalism...
I haven’t been in school since 2015, but I have a few stories to tell from my time as an Undergrad and Grad.
I went to a large state university. Although it was common for professors to take time out for research, our astronomy professor seemed to be taking every other week to go to a telescope...
Game of Thrones, Season 8.
I mean, I should have seen the signs of its decline before then, but....
What really did it was Daenerys's snap to madness, but then all the events, ALL THE EVENTS, leading to "Bran the Broken" (Tyrion being allowed to speak, Jon not already executed, the Iron Isles...
Generally speaking, I think just asking, "Why did you choose to be vegetarian/vegan?" is a good way to phrase it, @kevintheradioguy. Asking it like, "Why don't you eat meat?" or other ways that indicate the issue is not eating meat, could come off wrong and put someone on the defensive.
For...
I am vegetarian. Thankfully I don't have too many issues with strange questions anymore since just about everyone around me knows, and many of them were already aware that vegetarian options existed. The main question I get, though, is usually, "Where does your protein come from?"
Like...-sigh-...
I've been told to watch Grimm, but I'm wary. I dislike Supernatural (despite the fact I keep watching) because of what it does to mythical creatures, so I'm not certain how much I'd enjoy Grimm. My need of purity and my love of innovation are difficult to reconcile at times, haha.
I do have a...
Hahaha, they do. There's this series called "Lost Tapes" that used to be on Netflix USA for a while. Then the Discovery Channel ran one on Mermaids that I haven't yet seen. They're glorious things.
Charybdis! Now that's one I wasn't expecting, but I'm delighted to be reminded of her. She was a pretty intimidating figure in the Odyssey. I wish that one was used more often in like, B-rated horror movies or pirate shows.
And as for material, I'm looking for three things: "source material"...
I have copies of the Edda, but I haven't investigated them all that much for actual creatures since I generally just associate them with lore about the gods, but I may give another look at them to see what information they provide about the creatures, too.
That's been my problem with Korean...
Sounds a lot like the Kelpie! Though I think that one is more akin to rivers. There's a pretty nice comic with such a wonderful depiction of one here: click it.
I must ask, since you're not from the US, do you know of any good books in English about Scandinavian creatures? I have one friend in...
Had to ask, since there are versions where a similar creature is depicted as a horse. Thank you for introducing me to this variant of nightmare creatures ^-^
Is the Mareritt often depicted as a horse? I know that for some nightmare creatures, they take that "mare" part literally and make the monstrous creature a horse.
I do concur, though. Though nightmare creatures can sometimes be difficult to work with, the psychological terror aspect is...
Why is it ya like the Chimera so much? Is it just the multiplicity of options with it, attack and defense-wise?
Chimera is a creature I remember from a short animation about the Pegasus. It's role in that was pretty short, unfortunately, but it gave a pretty good idea of the creation stories...
Hello everyone!
I wasn't sure what tag to put this under, but considering the nature of what I'm asking for is "books", I decided the literature tag fit.
Since we have a very diverse group here from around the world, I wanted to ask a favor of you all. I'm slowly putting together an...
