Not always - depends entirely on the plot. I've got a Dystopian RP myself that, while definitely futuristic, has very little 'sci' anything involved. Trust me... the staff, they generally think these things out long and hard - futuristic was the qualifier that (while not perfect) made the most...
Cause Sci-fi doesn't cover everything that could fit into 'futuristic' genres. Not all futuristic stuff is sci-fi. But -most- sci-fi stuff is futuristic, to some degree.
What I mean is that those things are futuristic... but not necessarily sci-fi. Not however suggesting that those things are ONLY futuristic elements. Essentially just saying that the reason it's not just 'sci-fi' is because futuristic is a broader catagory.
Common sense rules apply - basically, if they lose interest, you ask them if you can take over. It's just pure and simple logic. If they say yes... you take over under a new thread. If they say no... you move on - or start something under a similar premise, without copy/pasting their ideas.
Obviously there's a difference between taking inspiration from someone or something, whether intentionally or not... and taking an entire concept - name/plot/etall. Distinguishing the difference is importat.
Hmm... that feels an awful lot like semantics. That's sort of like... robbing a bank, and then blaming it on their lack of security. But you're right - we're not gonna agree on this. I feel like there's enough ideas you can pull inspiration from without having to take someone else's concept...
Haha - but isn't that a matter of respect, too? It's kind of dishonest NOT to let people know it's not your original idea... and people have a tendency to be MORE uncomfortable with the idea of what feels like -theft- than the idea of repurposing something (with permission or credit given). If I...
I get it. I do - I've been burned by a GM just... poofing out with no warning, leaving an RP in the dust. But my point is... it's an idea that, whether or not it comes to full fruition, belongs to someone else. If you wanna continue with it, the logical and morally sound thing to do is to make...
I'm confused by this notion. Like... is this a legitimate question? Or by 'die' do you mean disappear... Because if you're honestly asking if it's okay to take someone's work... after they have -actually- died, I'm a little disturbed by that concept. No... a lot disturbed. If RP is anyone's...
Worst and best advice I've ever been given. Just write.
Anything. Everything. Utter nonsense, even. Does it always work? No. It's not a surefire way - especially if you're stuck looking for inspiration with a CERTAIN story/RP. But we all know that you can't lose weight sitting on a couch...
Aww <3 I love seeing threads like this!
I'm gonna say...
Thalion - by @Mordecai - Nothing better than a confused hero with a grumpy disposition !
Hal - by @Effervescent - Watching him grow (nopunintended - okay... totallyintended) has been a lot of fun !
Darren - Also Effie's - The pure...
Honestly, strange as it sounds, I'm rather the opposite. I tend to get a little more iffy about folks when their post count is epic... My hesitation being, the more posts I see, the more I'm inclined to believe this person is a junk-poster (someone who posts as quickly as possible, without...
Fact of the matter is... you asked a question you wanted a specific answer to and when you didn't get that answer, you decided to oppose any actual -good- advice you were given. You don't have to respect my opinion, but I can promise you... you will not be accepted by the vast majority of users...
You've got to understand that the higher up you go as far as experience is concerned, the most people expect from you. If you don't want people to dog you on your writing quality, Simple is the way to go - otherwise you'll either need to adapt, or you'll have to get used to people being a little...
