"We were meant to be together, even if we weren't meant to be happy."
"In another time, another life."
"When perfect isn't good enough."
Also. Broken. Pedestals.
Oh for sure, I haven't even heard of some of the hottest fandoms today. I've found myself gravitating towards more and more original rps over the years; the fandoms I rp are fandoms I rp'd way back when and haven't really changed at all.
Hey Yenn! Kind of the same story for me. I always feel nostalgic when go back through my old roleplay. In a lot of ways, I think I was a better writer a few years ago -- mostly because I was churning out pieces nearly every day. I've been super excited to be able to get back into my groove...
Gattaca is a fantastic example of a sci fi that is understated, timeless, doesn't rely on violence to drive the plot forward, and uses "show not tell" for its worldbuilding through dialogue and set pieces which would make it perfect for roleplaying. Also the dialogue is fantastic, poetic; and...
For sure! Honestly, I typically only reuse characters if I can feasibly say that the roleplays could take place in the same world. So for example, I might originally play a character while he was in his teens but then in another roleplay, if I can rationalize it, I'll play him in his thirties...
A lot of times, roleplays don't last as long as I'd like them to so I will carry the character with me if I like them enough and try to work them into a future roleplay. Feels like a waste otherwise! It works as an iteration process, too!
Maybe not so obscure but the fandom RPs that I always come back to at some point or another are Mass Effect, Dragon Age, DC Comics (specifically Batman), and Naruto.
Oh, my obscure one would be Gattaca. I love the movie and, at the very least, using the premise as a basis for a RP would be...
Conflict is hard. Ghosting is the path of least resistance especially in comparison to telling someone that your characters aren't jiving, or your writing styles aren't compatible, or you just don't see this roleplay going in in a direction that is compelling or you just don't have the...
Dumbo was tragic enough as a cartoon movie, I don't need to see an adorable CG baby elephant in horrible, awful situations.
Also, live action Sonic with muscular human legs and no pants seems really off to me.
I definitely write more male characters than female characters. I'll write either gender and do not feel anxiety about portraying a character 'correctly', but most of my OCs tend to be male.
Not that I'm suggesting this, but sometimes I wonder what would happen if I wrote a male character and...
The guy that doesn't get the girl in every shoujo manga I ever read as a kid.
Otherwise...well, I don't do much shipping anymore but back in my youth:
Sai and Sakura in Naruto. Hikaru and Haruhi from OHSC. Akihiko and FemC in Persona 3 Portable. Harry Potter and Cho Chang in...Harry Potter.
Favorite love interests/characters:
DAO - Zevran mainly because I have a hard time telling NPCs no for anything and he always makes a move on the Warden first
DA2 - Fenris, I find him to be a compelling character and his backstory and growth throughout the game is tremendous
DAI - Solas, I...
I came here to say cursive but Kirokat has it covered!
The most use I've had from it is being able to write beautiful cursive on white boards and having my coworkers be in awe of my penmanship.
I remember when they made us write in cursive on the back of standardized tests that we wouldn't...
