Sure! We could say that Aigis had just seen the exit but before she was able to get any close to it the Doctor and company rushed into the TARDIS, making Aigis retreat into the hallway where she came from. Aigis would then peek out of the door out of curiosity resulting in the Doctor noticing her and (As you wrote) regretting the circumstances of the situation.
