IDGAF if RP buddies are 18+ if they can write well, I don't like romance RP much anyway and don't RP Sexytimes so the whole 18+ qualification is pretty irrelevant to me.

I use the 18 rule in romance role plays that do follow site rules. I personally just don't feel comfortable role playing fictional romance with minors.
